Cable companies are, however, needing to compress and encrypt NTSC analog signals to free up more spectrum in their cable plants for HDTV channels. As a bonus, encryption allows them to add and remove services (plus pay-per view) without truck rolls. So, your new Comtastic standard def signals will need a cablecard decoder and contain new block-shaped compression artifacts so they can fit more HD channels in the same limited bandwidth. Don't fight it. Just switch to DirecTV. |
Updating firmware in CNSX Brain Processors
I've seen a lot of chatter about loosing CNSX brains after trying to
update the firmware. I to have lost a few but was able to get them back and had a process for updating the Brains. U need to follow a stricked procedure and they will work fine. Contact me and I can walk U through it. |
ST-Tune(s) worthless in one year?
Apparently, Comcast will drop analog feeds on their cable as soon as
the OTA signals are dropped. According to them, that is where they get the analog signals, and they have no intent of D/A conversion to keep the analog signals on cable. If this is the case, I will just have a fancy AM/FM tuner. Todd |

solve your problem. You need to use different signal names through buffers to drive the same end result so that other then the end control device the logic is identical but with different signal names. For example TP-A_VOL_UP, would drive a buffer enabled with a 1 and on the output put the device volume, REC_VOL_UP. The feeback to the panel would be The TP-A_VOL_UP. This will sperate out the logic so yo don't see different zones driving logic on different panels. Also you can quickly make the new logic for the other 2 panels by copying the folder and then using Search and Replace which is the F9 key. Hope that kind of points you in the right direction. Re: "Party Mode" - Serial/Analog signals slowing network
Probably the best method would be to only connect the touchpanel
Crosspoints when a source is selected from that particular touchpanel - not when activated by Party Mode. That way, the touchpanels would only receive the data if they were already on the iPod page, or if they switched to the iPod page after Party Mode is initiated. However, that's not how I set mine up. If a zone is switched to a source by *any* method (another TP, remote, Party Mode, etc.), any touchpanel(s) connected to that zone will also be connected to the source, and flip to the control page. I haven't encountered any serious delays (or at least, no complaints), but if necessary, some type of "Please Wait" message could be displayed while the Party Mode is initiating. The Broadcast symbol would be a good solution, but updating doesn't seem to be as reliable. I also wish there was a version with joins higher than 127, although that can be done with code, if necessary. You're not *supposed* to have the same signals connected to the touchpanel(s) and a Broadcast symbol at the same time, but I've never actually tried it. --- In Crestron@..., "nick.dietz" <nick@...> wrote: mode" either the cresnet or processor gets bogged down.Xpoint and the feedback signals have to get routed to each TP. While working on yachts and multi TV standards, I've had to used numerous devices, unfortunately all the good reliable ones are not cheap. I really think you will be pushed even to get a cheap one under a $100. In the UK the following link are the products I've used with great success. Help with Homevision
goldengot
I can't seem to figure this one out. I am trying to use HV and an
old ST-CP to control x-10 lights in a particular room. I created a simple SIO that maps back to a homevision controller with the ASCII string 'lights' in str1 which is tied directly to the touchpanel. So in theory when the user pressed the hv_light button it sends a string through the serial into the home vision. The home vision has been configured to accept any text over 1 character (testing purposes). When the button is pressed, nothing happens. It works within the terminal emulator, but not connected to the st-cp. There was a post by Geoffrey Reynolds detailing how to do this (see below) The homevision part works just fine but the Crestron piece is another question. It appears to be sending hex through the serial and not ASCII. If anyone has had any experience in setting up Crestron alongside Homevision, please detail your exact steps (i.e. which mods were used if any, which analog or digital symbols, strings that were used, if you had to convert using HEX, which baud rate is used on the serial driver, etc. In other words, any information that you can give me that would make my life easier. TIA In HomeVision: From the main menu, select Objects/Events -> Serial Data Input -> Port1 (substitute Port2, Port3, etc. as appropriate for your situation) This will give you a window where you can program HomeVision to respond to events on a serial port. Next, configure the logic that will handle serial events by, for example, setting up a series of If - Then - End If statements. Start by clicking the If Then button in the ACTIONS toolbar. Next, the ACTIONS toolbar switches to the CONDITIONS toolbar. Now, select the SERIAL button. I've found the most useful condition to be "Serial input characters # through # are :'____' - this lets you listen for a specific string to come from the Crestron controller. Now enter the string you want and press OK. Now click on End If and the toolbar switches back to ACTIONS. Click X10 and choose the X10 action you want to perform. That's all you need to do on the HomeVision side. It sounds a bit clunky (and is), but is pretty easy to use and will work very reliably once you have it programmed. Now just program your Crestron program to send the appropriate strings terminated with \n. HomeVision has default support for it's OSD remote control commands, so some strings are reserved: ,J0\n = 0 ,J1\n = 1 ... ,J9\n = 9 ,JA\n = Enter ,JB\n = Channel Up ,JC\n = Channel Down ,JD\n = Volume Up ,JE\n = Volume Down ,JF\n = Cancel |
