Re: Crestron Home vs. Original Simpl and VT
Hi Steve,
I think your opinion here might change with some hands-on experience.? Personally, I'm not on the "cloud" bandwagon ("cloud is the name for someone else's computer" etc. etc.) but in this case, your worries are baseless. Drivers *can* be downloaded from the Crestron driver portal which is currently 1st party driver only, but they are talking about making it available to 3rd party driver developers too.? However, there is a manual way to "sideload" drivers for Home which is purely old-skool (SFTP) and doesn't need the Internet. Of course, in a dystopian future where Crestron have given up on Home and moved onto something more shiny(*), then customers have bigger issues than whether they can download an updated TV driver to be honest, but the current Crestron Home architecture *uses* the cloud rather than being *bound* to it. (* I'm not going to argue that this hasn't happened a number of times before, but Crestron have put a LOT into Home and - my personal position with experience in all of Crestron's tools for the past 15 years - Crestron Home has a lot more going for it than previous attempts). @MSTC - Crestron Home *IS* Pyng.? It's just the next step in the evolution of the product.? I'm kind of glad people have stopped talking about OS2/OS3 now too as it wasn't helpful having so many names for - essentially - the same things, not to mention the namespace clash with Control4. |

Re: Simpl+ parse integer value
Your correct lol Denon.?? However I did not see any IP modules mostly just IR. I did not check application market, I worked out the code anyway.? Appreciate the response of course. On Wed, Sep 30, 2020, 7:07 PM Slip Cougan <gk.otoole@...> wrote: Sounds like a Denon AVR. |
Re: Control 4 - C4-AMP108 - 16 Channel Amplifier - Quality?
If you can squeeze it in, the Snap AV amp might do the trick.
Their 16 channel amp is 12.2" deep. I haven't used it, but their products are usually pretty reliable, as is their support. Also, your still giving the same people your money. If you had a bit more depth, I'd say go with Audio Control. It's a real amplifier, built in the US, by a great company. Brian |
Re: Control 4 - C4-AMP108 - 16 Channel Amplifier - Quality?
I would not recommend using one of these amplifiers. They have a known issue with the?capacitors and cannot be repaired. Jonathan A. The amp looks solid enough.? Speakers are all 'background' music and source will be a Sonos into the system.? I did none of the wiring and would never put a head end in such a poor location.? But, it is what it is. If someone has used one or has any thoughts, I would appreciate them. I can't go up to CNAMPX.? Depth is just too much for the space. Under 12" of depth is the goal.? The C4 is under 10", so that's a real score. I have 7 zones to deal with, so, 12 channel amps don't make much sense either. |
Simpl+ parse integer value
Hello,
I am writing a module and need to pull in vol fb. Device return is "MV" then the level either in 2 or 3 digits and a carriage return. Is there a simple way to take the entire string and pull out just the integer? Will atoi accomplish this or will it factor incorrectly because of the extra ascii characters in there. |
Re: Crestron Home vs. Original Simpl and VT
The problem with all Cloud base services is maintaining your tool chain for future use.
When companies started doing subscription base software or required internet activation back years ago, I stopped buying their software because I no longer have a tool chain I can rely on. When I found that flash was going away several years ago and my CNC milling machine software uses flash, I found a tool chain to replace it with that so I can always use my milling machine. Microsoft was the only software I used that required internet activation.? But when they started making crap bloated software, I found a replacement that no longer requires Internet activation. Now Crestron is going the same way and hence I am looking for a replacement for Crestron that does not rely on the cloud nor proprietary subscription base software like Microsoft Visual Studio to program it.? Whether I will find a suitable replacement is yet to be seen. |
Re: Control Processor Programming Slots
#crestron
I agree with Ryan.
We typically have 2 processors though. Processor 1 - Program
Processor 2 - Program
Also, I'd recommend using the same join number structure for every similar subsystem program. That way, you don't have to modify the main program just because something else changed. If the client uses Crestron or Lutron lighting, for example, the main program is the same.? Only the lighting program changes. Or, the vendor stops making security systems (GE!!!). You can just quickly write a new security program that uses the same join number structure, and the main program never skips a beat. Brian |
Re: Control Processor Programming Slots

Resi checking in.? We put most subsystems on separate program slots to allow for support of different systems without having to restart the main program.? Typically:
Program 1:? Main AV/Interface/Control, handles the bulk of the work. Program 2:? Lights/Shades Program 3:? Security Program 4:? Water Systems Etc. -- Ryan Baldwin CEO | XS Design Studios rbaldwin@... 760.712.2240 |
