Re: Off Topic: Epson 5050UB Trigger

Jeff,
When the lens cover closes, is the projector completely Off (i.e. the STATUS indicator has stopped flashing and the "cool down" period has ended)?
Basically, I'm trying to determine if I can use the trigger to lower and raise enclosed ceiling projector lift, where I DO NOT want the lift to close until the projector has completely shut down, including its cool down period.
If I use the trigger, does it seem ok for projector ceiling lift to close as soon as trigger turns off?

From manual for turning projector Off:
"Press the power button on the projector or the Standby button on the remote control again. (To leave it on, press any other button.) The lamp turns off and the lens shutter closes. The projector's Status light flashes and then turns off."

They don't say how long the STATUS light flashes, and I am not onsite to check this.

Thanks so much for the reply!

Re: On Air Recording Light #reservedjoins #crestron

Yeah just a simple light that says either On Air or recording. ?The idea is the light would go on any time the smp is recording. ?Preferably maybe something that could be run direct from the IO on smp. ?I guess he reached out to Extron ?and they said they don¡¯t have one any more. ?

looking for a new solution?

Re: On Air Recording Light #reservedjoins #crestron

There's lots that the radio broadcast industry offers, many of the relay controlled, but some have their own IP interface as well.

What kind of look are you after - just a red light? The traditional kind of light with the kit up "on-air" text?

I will double check ? Not in front of that PC right now ?

you can also check out Kiel the Coder. ?I used his samples to build mine out. ??

Re: VC-4 lack of console for printing msgs

We created a simpl#pro program that get¡¯s loaded in one of the program slots on VC4. It allows for a programmer to login with credentials and choose which program instance names running to watch, using a filter console command. Each of the other program implements the companion ¡°Debug¡± class that communicates with console program. Pretty easy and works as expected. This was written when only SIMPL#Pro programs ran on VC4.?

Thanks, somehow I missed that one!

I've seen scaling issues with other apps on the i14 as well... Bleeding edge tech. :(

Re: VC-4 lack of console for printing msgs

So it seems like the Exceptions, Errors and Notices are saved to a file and can also be printed on the linux command line as they happen. Which is great.
However, I am still looking for the ability to issue a simple "print" command that does not save to a file and all it does is display some text on the screen (this helps a lot when debugging in realtime).?
?
Based on what @LightDemon wrote, It looks like we can "repurpose" the error.notice to write to a file which is separate from the exceptions and errors, correct?
If this is true, this is kind of a decent workaround... All I am looking for is the ability to output some live text in a console without polluting the actual error logs.?
The way I see it:
Error logs should only contain the exceptions and errors while "print" statements should be ephemeral and only aid with live debugging... I'm not sure why this seems to be so difficult.
Thanks for all the tips, I will dig into the manuals.

Re: VC-4 lack of console for printing msgs

Hi?chrmac68,?what direction did you take with that? CWS, SSH, STCP Server, etc?

I really like your idea of being able to input console commands as well... it is always nice to be able to "turn debug on" and "turn debug off" straight from a console interface.

Re: Crestron Go App (iPad) - strange embedded video issue

I have seen this too. Good idea with the extender- maybe you could use that to drive the on/off state of the video window or even the visibility of it. I may have to try this out

Re: VC-4 lack of console for printing msgs

In at least one version of the manual, it gave instructions about copying a .conf file into rsyslog.d directoy to create a creston log file that you could print to with the error.notice function then ssh sudo tail -f /var/log/crestron/crestron.log and watch the log in realtime.

1. Move the 50-default.conf file from [VirtualControlHome]/samples/conf_files to the
/etc/rsyslog.d/ directory.

2. Issue sudo systemctl restart rsyslog.service to restart the system logging service.

Exterity Avedia Server Control

Hi,

I had implemented a Exterity server control in one of my projects and I was sending channel up/down, device volume and mute commands successfully, until Server was updated (don't know how) to latest firmware and I have been summoned on site to solve the issue. I tried remote-access-in through a local laptop and saw the Crestron TCP socket request returning '3d' as the connection status. The processor cannot connect to server.?

I tried setting the access control in AvediaServer smart control, allowing processor IP, then whole range of IPs to access the API but no change. However, if I try and send command through postman, I am getting a successful reply. The command sent through Postman is exactly the same as being sent from Crestron.

Has anyone come across this issue? Appreciating in advance for any help! I will be onsite next week and can pull out more info such as Exterity firmware version (must be 10.xx something) if needed.??

Re: VC-4 lack of console for printing msgs

It took some digging a few months back, I believe it was in the manual, I don't remember where I got it.? If you ssh into the box and type?journalctl -u virtualcontrol -f -all?you can watch these messages in real time.??

Re: VC-4 lack of console for printing msgs

I was playing around with a web based console program I wrote. ?I could get print statements to work and was able to get it to allow input of console commands that I added to the S#Pro program. ? ?I have seen similar with Simpl but have not tried it. ?

I know that CrestronConsole.PrintLine (I don't know about SIMPL+ PRINT or TRACE) definitely shows up in the syslog, so it's not completely gone. https://support.crestron.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1001239?

Subject: [crestron] VC-4 lack of console for printing msgs

I have always been a fan of the good old method of printing stuff to console for some basic debugging and even some exception handling (in addition to saving to a log file etc)...? But as we all know, VC-4 does not give us a console.
?
During Master's 2022, I remember seeing their suggestion of outputting "Error" and "Notice" strings to Simpl? so we could watch it in debugger... this looks like an ok idea but it does not help much when trying to debug Simpl#Pro stuff.
I also remember at the first virtual Master's in 2020, I think Toine or one of the other guys developed a quick and dirty way of emulating the console using a telnet connection (I think it was telnet, but I don't remember exactly). This also seemed alright, but it was definitely unsecured.
?
My question is: anybody out there *created* their own "console emulator" for printing out messages, statuses etc? If yes, what approach did you take?
I'm wondering about creating an SSH Server or something along those lines that I can connect to with Putty or MobaXterm which could give me some resemblance of a console that I can monitor for print/trace statements... but I wonder what some of you guys recommend?
Does anybody miss the ability to print stuff to console as a means of live debugging or am I the only one?!??It would be so nice if Crestron could create a console for VC-4....
I was never fan of the "attach-to-process" method of debugging because it seems to be pain to get going most of the time and also requires a restart in certain scenarios (which is a no-go if you are trying to catch a bug in the act).?

Re: Crestron Go App (iPad) - strange embedded video issue

So, a quick update on this.

Using the offline extender, I close the video subpages as soon as the iPad goes offline (task switch or power off iPad)
When the app is back in focus it re-connects quickly again. The video subpages are still shown for a few seconds until the panel renders the UI.
Not an ideal fix but better.

Re: Cisco Room Devices 3.4 issue #crestron

What Cisco hardware/firmware?
Does joining a Teams meeting using the codec web interface work?

As far as I'm aware Teams does not yet work on Cisco hardware, there is a press release about integrating with it in future versions;

Crestron Go App (iPad) - strange embedded video issue

I'm currently working on a project that requires embedded video on iPad.
Done loads of these in the past with few(ish) issues.

Here's a new one:
With the Embedded Video subpage active on the iPad:
* Task switch away from the app or hit the iPad power button.
* Switch back to the app or turn the iPad back on
The Connecting to System message pops up for a long time (spinner frozen)
Eventually the app will connect and display the embedded video subpage.
On only one occasion (so far), when I task switched away from the Crestron app, the Video window was left frozen on-screen above the iPad desktop. Power off/on cleared it.
Note this was only the video part of the subpage frozen on screen, not the rest of the subpage.

With no embedded video window showing, tasking away/back is almost instant.
Likewise with power off/on.

Seems like the app is screwing the iPad memory when embedded video is showing.
App also crashed once, when switching between cameras.

Crestron Go-Tablet v1.0.24
iOS 14.4.2
iPad Mini (5th Gen)

Crestron Go settings:
Lock Configuration - off
Lock Orientation - Landscape
Auto-reconnect - on
Check for Update - on
Logging Enabled - off
Hide Demo - on
Use improved H.264 Player - on

I did try with improved H.264 Player off, but the only cameras I could display on my network were Axis.
Lillen, Y-Cam & Grandstream would not display.
