Re: NVX switch recommendations #nvx

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

It depends on how many of each you¡¯re working with.

?

I¡¯d start looking at the Catalyst 9500 series and it¡¯s real easy to do up to 48 copper ports and 8 fiber (using a C9500-NM-8X/C9300-NM-8M network module) in a single switch. If you need more than 8 fiber you could either go with a SFP only switch like the C9500-40X and populate the copper ports with GLC-T SFP transceivers (expensive and clunky, IMO) or stack a C9500-40X (40 SFP/SFP+) or -16X (16 SFP/SFP+) with a C9500-48Y4C (48 1/10/25G ports with 4 100G ports)

?

Since the 9500 doesn¡¯t have a dedicated stack port/technology and uses stackwise virtual you¡¯d need to make sure you have enough interfaces with enough bandwidth available to create a virtual stack ¨C this of course depends on the number of encoders on each switch.

Subject: [crestron] NVX switch recommendations #nvx

?

I do not know if this has be asked before. I am doing a commercial project and I was looking to use a mix of Fiber and copper connections for NVX. Does any one have a recommendation for a single switch from?extreme networks or cisco that could do both? Or do I need two switches and link them together?

Thanks

Re: Home appliances integration with Crestron? #crestron

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Let me just add one other thing.? Using energy monitors to tell you when an appliance is done is not as simple as it would at first seem.? First of all, appliances all use some power 24x7.? On top of that, a cleaning cycle is broken down into smaller sections that each use a different amount of power.? A clothes washer is a good example.? It fills the tub, agitates the clothes.? spins to remove water from the clothes, etc.? In between these sections of the cleaning cycle are gaps where power usage drops to the same level as the machine uses while idle.? If the homeowner wants the notification to be as close as possible to the time when the cycle ends you need to look at energy usage as a pattern and only send a notification when the measured power use matches that pattern.?

The simplest major appliance I've found to setup notifications for is a clothes dryer.? The clothes and dishwashers are more complicated.

If this is the case the only command you need for the coffee maker is one to start brewing.? If the customer likes their coffee maker then this might be accomplished by plugging the coffee maker into a smart switch.? Another alternative to making a dumb coffee maker smart is to use a SwitchBot.? If you want to find a smart one that can be integrated with a smart home platform then you are probably looking at using IFTTT or Home Connect through IFTTT for integration.?

As I said in the start the first thing to understand is what the use cases are for each appliance.? I don't know what the use case would be for connecting a fridge to Crestron.? The last thing you would ever want to do is to shut the fridge off and have all the food spoil.

I have done quite a bit with integrating robotic vacuums to a Crestron system.? The best one for integration (though I have other complaints about the product line) are Roombas.? The only way to integrate Roombas is again through IFTTT.? The Roomba IFTTT channel supports both triggers to start a robot and events that let you know when a robot is done.? The triggers work well but the events leave something to be desired.? However, you can make it work.? I personally trigger a vacuum to run once each week when my wife and I leave the house.? When the vacuum finishes a robotic mop runs.? When the mop finishes we get a notification reminding us to change the mop pad and empty the vacuum.

The only use case I have found valuable for dishwashers, clothes washers, and clothes dryers is a notification when the appliance finishes its cycle.? I use energy monitoring to determine this and then simply send notifications to smart phones and tablets.

Most of the code for integrating with the above is on my GitHub.? For IFTTT integration I use my IFTTT module to send triggers.? However, direct integration with IFTTT events requires a port forward on the router; which is a bad idea.? So, I included code in my Hubitat integration library to utilize the Hubitat to receive event notifications from IFTTT and then pass them to a Crestron processor.? A little messy but it works very well and eliminates the port forward.? I have a SwitchBot driver on my GitHub and drivers for Shelly devices that can be used for energy monitoring.? There is also a driver I use for a Kasa energy monitoring smart plug but I haven't tested it with the latest version of the Kasa smart plug.?

Hope this helps

Re: UC Engine - Multiple platforms

Hi John,?

My personal preference would be the QSC Core 110f or the new smaller Flex DSP, if this caters for the number of inputs required. Provides all the features and can easily be integrated with Crestron.?

Re: UC Engine - Multiple platforms

Yanking the DSP is going to happen, guaranteed!? What would be your go to with the USB that the 1282 has and Crestron controllable?? Tesira?? The DSP is mainly for the mixing of microphones to the computer.? The camera is connected to the computer via USB.? Was thinking a UC system which would allow me to remove the microphones, computer and DSP all together.

Re: NVX switch recommendations #nvx

Just did a system with four switches and fiber ran to connect all of them, We used the Extreme 220 switches? with 10gig fiber ports and everything seems to be working great.? Only thing to note would be in Crestrons switch config guide there is nothing about setting up querier for the VLAN and this will have to be done if using multiple switches

Agreed with your pointe below, but the Roomba would be neat. I don¡¯t know what the Roomba API allows, but imagine being able to dispatch your Roomba to a specific room from a touch panel.

It all depends on the appliance. Your typical appliance ( and the ones from your list ) are really only able to integrate with Crestron by controlling the power to them. You may be able to hack together additional control by soldering relays, etc...

I would highly recommend NOT integrating with any of this. For the coffee maker what happens if the burner stays on too long and the pot is empty? What happens if you cut power to the fridge and all of the food spoils or the freezer leaks? What happens if you cut power to the washing machine or dryer and the clothes get ruined?

I have had many customers over the years want to do a lot of things, but most of them really don't make sense and can open you up to a huge amount of liability.

On a side note....yank that crestron dsp for a real one

Re: UC Engine - Multiple platforms

This request is coming up a lot now that people are moving back to work. Basically what we are doing is asking the client which is their company standard and getting that UC engine, then using an extender to byod the other. IE...uc engine for zoom and BOYD for teams/WEB ex/ect.....

Re: Rain Barrel - Irrigation DIY

I have a few of those US Solid ball valves (non-auto return)
They are very good value for money and nicely made for the price.

And good luck :)

I know some don¡¯t love the Flex line but I can honestly say I¡¯ve had great success with it.?
The Crestron DSP however is not a great product so I get the frustration there.?

Re: Rain Barrel - Irrigation DIY

Circling back to these with a few updates and for antiquity's sake in case anyone else randomly tries this nonsense.? @Lincoln King-Cliby, you were 100% correct rain about the flow for those sprinkler valves.? When I activated the Rainbird valve, there was not even nearly enough pressure to activate the valve to let water flow.? Apparently they need something like 20psi to activate, not even close.? Scrapped that whole plan, it required pumps and all sorts of things I didn't really want to get involved in.

I went back to the drawing board and found some electrical ball valves from US Solid that when activated by 24 AC or DC would open a ball valve to almost 100% of the 3/4" outlet needed for good flow from the barrel.? It also features an auto return so when power is removed from it, the ball valve will close.? I replaced the supplied outlets from the barrel as they seemed to be slowing down flow as well.? I found with the two types of rain barrels we bought, all were supplied with pretty junk outlet valves that really restrict the flow out of them, by just upgrading those to 10mm ball valves, the pressure increased dramatically and allowed the barrels to empty about 3x faster.

Currently, I have one 50 gallon rain barrel with a and a .? With that, just waiting on a good storm to test it out manually.

A couple people mentioned a few good points about controlling these via relay and the power surges that may happen.? I decided to scrap connecting directly to the CP3 and use an inline board for control.? I ordered an which should allow me to control 4 rain barrels independently with 4 fused dry contact closures.? Most likely I will place them all on a single relay to open all at once, but it does give me the ability to open them individually.

Wish me luck!

UC Engine - Multiple platforms

Is there a UC engine that will support both teams and zoom? Looking for a solution to replace a local computer/camera and DSP-1282.? Short story is that the DSP has failed twice and I now have the 3rd RMA to install as a temporary measure while we work on something different.? The system has a DMPS3 4K 150 (HMDI switch and audio extraction) and a Avia DSP-1282 (Microphones, AV audio and Computer USB).? This is a single conference room.? The 1282 has been a real drag.
