Re: Please Help with IR Emitter output Pro 2 completely stumped and frustrated :)

Thanks John

Did some more trouble shooting this weekend and have PVR 1 working better but speed of channel surfing still not at same speed as PVR 2 when using ML 600.

When I use ?PVR remote directly both PVR¡¯s same to respond same speed. ?That is why I think still IR related. ? Do you know or does anyone know does IR emitter ?see through sticky side attached to IR eye or through front facing part?

And would anyone recommend where exactly IR emitter should be placed relativel to IR eye on PVR?

should it be place right on center or off to side.?

Thanks

Easier solution:
- Add a space between your '%u' and the ending '}'

MakeString(TempStr$, "{\"A%u\":%u }", Index, Value);? ? ? ? ? ? // First solution

MakeString(TempStr$, "%s\"A%u\":%u%s", "{", Index, Value, "}"); // Second solution - This will preserve the 'minified' JSON.

Why?
Crestron formats it explicitly with the "D" format specifier (i.e. {0:D}) rather than leaving it as just {0}.

Additionally:
- You don't need to use \x22 for quotes, you can simply put '\"'

Note: The analysis below is somewhat inaccurate (as it has incomplete context). It has less to do with the fact that C# uses {{ and }} for format arguments, and more to do with the way Crestron explicitly formats the arguments, which translates to a presumed custom format without the space between the escaped braces. Crestron does what they should be doing and doubles up the braces to escape them accordingly, but without the space there you run into the scenario described: {0:D}}}

You'll notice that if you were to simply MakeString something like "{}" it would write exactly that because internally it translates to something conceptually similar to string.Format("{{}}"). Thus, the braces themselves are not the problem themselves, since you can still use them in a MakeString call... You just need to understand what's going on under the hood to work with it.

Re: Crestron APP block notification #app

Guided access is the way to go, you just need to factor in onsite support when it goes wrong. ? If the ipad needs to be restarted or the App force closed / restarted and you don't want anyone having the passcode you will physically need to go to the device.

we use the app on ipads in a number of communal settings without guided access mode. ? ?We just restrict the app settings page and set it to auto load and therefore its very difficult for anyone to get in to the app to change things. ? We then remove all the other ipad apps for the device leaving only the Creston App on the first page and sign out of app store etc.

its still possible for someone to screw up the ipad but its a compromise between useability and allowing local onsite support.

Re: Sirrus/XM Comtrol and Feedback

The short answer is no - there is no current product that does what you're looking for.? Everything outside the car moved to streaming 5+ years ago.? You may find some old units that support RS232 control but there is nothing current that's satellite-based.

Re: Published Voltage Fluctuations

Most Crestron equipment? (except for power amplifiers) today have switching power supplies where the neutral/line are completely isolated ? from ground and can tolerant quite a bit of voltage on the ground with respect to neutral (as long as they aren't connected to anything else).? It depends on the power supply and the load but I see a lot of stuff that will operated all the way down to 60VAC line.? A bigger issue is brown outs and power glitches.? Some stuff can tolerate a brown out of any level and not lock up.? More the normal is some equipment will lock up with a power glitch and require a hard boot to restore operation.? But on the worst end, some stuff that I work on will literally blow up with a very expensive repair if the line voltage drops below 110V. I don't think you will find a spec more detailed than the range of voltage operation.? For example, my laptop power supply is spec to operate on anything between 100 to 240VAC.

If you lift the ground on a piece of equipment, many, if not most, will have about half the mains line voltage (60VAC in the USA) on the ground pin and they will continue to operate properly.? The issues however can occur when you start connection stuff together.? It is the ground different between different pieces of equipment that will cause the damage.

For example, we had a Samsung TV that just had a 2 pin power plug.? If you measured the case of the TV to the ground pin in the wall outlet, it was 60VAC.? The current however on the ground was quite low so it wouldn't even shock you.? And the TV worked fine too.? Connect anything to it that was grounded and the voltage drop to zero. But when you connect the HDMI cable from a Control4 room box to it, the 60VAC ground voltage blew up the Control4 receiver.??? We landed up connecting a ground wire between the TV chassis and the wall outlet ground and had no more issues with Control4 blowing up.

At another employer I work for, 90% of the HDMI boards we replace? in receivers have blown up CBL/SAT HDMI inputs.? The reason is many Cable and Satellite systems are grounded outside the house at a different grounding? point that the power line (usually near the power pole) -- that is what code requires too.? Ideally, you want your cable satellite provider to also ground the cable to the electrical? panel when it comes in the house.? If it is not, that is when the CBL/SAT inputs get zapped.

Re: Published Voltage Fluctuations

The question is in regard to the voltage differential that can be measured between ground and neutral. ?It can be induced by certain types of loads.?
We have a power monitor from surgeX that we are using to diagnose bad power on specific job sites. On certain sites the N to G voltage is as low as 0.1 V. At other sites it is as high as 1.3 V.

Neutral to mains ground?? ?

Earth ground should not be shorted to neutral anywhere outside the breaker box.? So, I don't know if the ground/neutral voltage difference is problematic.? On nearly all power supplies with a neutral and earth-ground 3-pin plug, there is a common-mode choke transformer in-line with hot and neutral.? Earth ground connects two capacitors, each to hot and neutral to filter.? ? Those EMI filter capacitors can cause 2V/AC that you measure at the wall.??

IMHO, things lock up from transient dropouts on DC power.? ?Is the power supply for the processor loaded near max ratings??

One advantage to 24V is you have a lot of headroom before you reach the minimum voltage needed to generate 5V/3.3V etc.

What else is sharing the supply powering the processor?

Sirius SCH2P Home/Pro tuner.

About 12 years ago, I had problems with the Crestron host seizing up periodically that was fixed by hosting it with its own 2-series (the one that is smaller than a paperback and doesn't have Cresnet).

TBH:? in this day and age?? ?Bluetooth receiver to my phone.? Done.

Re: Crestron APP block notification #app

The best way to do this would probably be to turn on ¡°Guided Access¡± mode. ?Essentially, this turns the iPad into a Crestron app only (or whatever app you lock it into). ?You can enable it in the accessibility settings near the bottom of the settings.
I¡¯m not sure how this affects notifications though.
It just locks the iPad on that app and requires a password to unlock it.

Re: wake on lan #crestron

An IP Helper address allows you to send broadcast traffic across vlans.? Speak to your network Admin.? They should know how to implement it.? Unfortunately I don't know a great deal about it.? It was actually my clients network Admin that implemented it for me on a job a while back.??

We had 3 crestron processors on one vlan, that had to control over 400 tvs spanning about 8 different vlans.? ?Every TV used WOL to turn on and it all works perfectly.??

Good afternoon,
Crestron doesn't make satellite radio sources anymore.? Is there a current product out there I can use that gives me control and feedback

REGULATORY MODEL: CEN-RFGW-EX2 vs CEN-RFGW-EX the latter works far better with MLX-2

So I ran into an issue with some fleebay upgrades I was attempting to do on my home system.

I have a ML-600 and it is awesome but I liked the idea of feedback and a more modern look so I bought a MLX-2 and a gateway.?I stay pretty old as far as hardware goes as I am just using this in my home and it is more of a hobby for me.

I ran into this issue and saw no posts anywhere in regards to this while attempting to troubleshoot. Everything I found here and on reddit said MLX-2 remotes suck and the range is garbage. MLX-3 is the only way to go.

So I first installed the?CEN-RFGW-EX (IC:5683C-CENRFGWEX2) and downgraded the firmware and loaded my program. Worked fine at my desk but the range was like 5 feet and the remote would randomly go RF out of range.

Looked at the Channel configuration and tried 15 and 20. Didn't matter. Turned off all wifi in the house I live out in the country so no neighbors to worry about. Still no change. Bought another MLX-2 and tried that. Same result. Behaves the same way.?Added an Alfa 9db antenna and got some benefits. Was able to actually install it in the Master and use it with some "lag" but good enough for me while I wait for the MLX-3 to show up.

I also bought another CEN-RFGW-EX gateway because I would need one to stay dedicated to the MLX-2 remote and I would just us it in the office or out in the shop for Audio and playing around with.

I received the second CEN-RFGW-EX and was adding it to the system in anticipation of my MLX-3 but for the time being I figured I would use the second MLX-2 remote on it in the office. Low and behold the Range is roughly 40-60 feet with the factory antenna and it works beautifully no lag on feedback. Rock Solid.

I compared the part numbers on the 2 gateways and they are the same but the IC number is different. I'm thinking I just lucked out with the second unit and the old IC (5683C-CENRFGWEX) without the 2 at the end works well with the MLX-2 and the older firmware and I'm betting my MLX-3 and the new firmware is going to work great on the one that ends in 2.

I just wanted to check with the pro's and see if I'm correct on this or is the first gateway I got just defective.

Thanks,
John.

Published Voltage Fluctuations

4?Does Crestron have stated voltage findings on when processors or devices may experience lock ups when it comes to voltage fluctuations and/or voltages Neutral to Ground?

For instance Lutron processors will lock up at 108V or below, Samsung TV¡¯s experience issues at 2V+ neutral to ground. ??have stated voltage findings on when your processors may experience lock ups when it comes to voltage fluctuations and/or voltages Neutral to Ground?

Crestron APP block notification #app

Is it possible in iOS / Android applications to prohibit / block the display of notifications with access to the settings so that the tablet user cannot access the connection settings. In other words, how to restrict access to the Crestron APP connection settings in a public tablet?

Re: LiftMaster MyQ Garage Door openers

Ah I see what you're saying Tony.
I actually (and a friend also) found and extensively tested this issue ~4 years ago and beat on Crestron about it (mercilessly as usual!). My recollection is that they did fix this with the latest firmware.
Also, I think part of the issue is resolved when you use the LINKSTATE extender on the Gateway module. If you're not using this, the unit definitely will not let the system know when it comes back online, at least until a new transition...

Let me know it that works for you...

Re: wake on lan #crestron

thank you for your reply.
the processor and pc connected to the same managed switch , but in different subnets.
i believe the solution must come from the network configuration, but i don't know how.
what is the ip helper address ?
i have a working module for wol in the same subnet.

thank you,

assaf?
