Unfortunately, I'm not trying to determine if someone is in a
room but in a specific location within the room.? Hence my need to
determine if someone is within a foot of the sensor. The need to
carry a smart phone is also an issue.

This is not wireless. But you could hook
it to a Crestron CEN-IO-COM-202. I have used it before and
they work really well. You will have to make an enclosure
for it though.
