Registration Now Open for CCAHA's virtual conference "Our Planet, Our Collections"!
CCAHA is excited to announce that registration is now open for our upcoming program Our Planet, Our Collections. Join us this November 14th and 15th for a two-day virtual conference exploring the intersection of climate change and collections stewardship. We ask: How do collecting institutions preserve evidence of an ever-changing natural world? And how does a changing climate impact those preservation efforts? Topics will address actions, responsibilities, and outcomes in the care of collections through a holistic lens, including documentation of the natural environment now and in the future, and the role cultural organizations have to play in advancing sustainability efforts. Participants will learn how efforts to preserve evidence of the natural world impact contemporary conversations about sustainability and engage in discussion about both the collections and the world we hope to leave behind. To view a list of featured presentations and learn more about registration and scholarship options, please visit our conference website at: https://ccaha.learningtimesevents.org/. We hope to see you there! Our Planet, Our Collections is generously supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, with additional support from the William Penn Foundation, and Independence Foundation. CCAHA is also able to increase participation in Our Planet, Our Collections due to the partnership with LearningTimes, whose generosity supports additional registrations. Call to Individuals Providing Care: Participate in 1:1 Interviews
Dear colleagues, In the winter of 2019 we published an article on the Cost of Care in the Journal of Western Archives [https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/westernarchives/vol10/iss1/7/], and followed up with a survey in January 2021 to collect data on issues of caregiving which we intentionally defined as broadly as possible to include ¡°any person who takes care of another person, young, old or sick.¡± This could be as intimate as caring for an elder relative in their home; financially supporting or making arrangements for adult care for an aging parent or friend; or raising children. The survey results have been illuminating but there are still questions that could not be answered with the existing data we collected. We are seeking individuals with caregiving responsibility to participate in virtual 1:1 interviews that will last 30-45 minutes. Questions will address the nuanced impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on caregiving, any pressures to return to work, and other outside commitments. Your participation will help further our understanding of this important issue and help influence and inform discussions happening within the profession.* If you are interested in participating please respond by September 30th. You can fill out the following form and we will be in touch the first week of October. Thank you again for your consideration! Alexis Braun Marks, Rachael Dreyer, Jennifer Johnson and Michelle Sweetser *Please note that this research is not being conducted on behalf of, or funded by, any single organization.

Upcoming program at CCAHA: "The Clean Scene: Housekeeping, Mold, & IPM"
The Clean Scene: Housekeeping, Mold, & IPM Online course, Sept. 6th - Oct. 7th, 2022 Cost: $90 When it comes to collections housekeeping, maintaining the ideal ¡®clean scene¡¯ requires more than just a good vacuum. While cleaning keeps collections tidy and dust-free, regular housekeeping tasks also provide staff opportunity to monitor the state of collections, potentially preventing conservation or budgetary concerns in the long-term. So, get ready to dust off that old housekeeping handbook (and then just about everything else!). Featuring lectures and discussions between preservation specialists and experts in pest management, preventive conservation, and disaster recovery, this month-long virtual course will combine live and asynchronous instruction to examine collections housekeeping through a holistic lens. The Clean Scene: Housekeeping, Mold & IPM is presented using Canvas LMS. For the duration of the course, participants will join a virtual classroom where they will have access to pre-recorded lectures, additional resources, and a discussion board for connecting with colleagues. In addition to the asynchronous instruction, each of the three modules in this course will include a live zoom discussion with experts in the field and optional activity. All activities can be completed at home using household items. At the end of the course, all participants will be invited to join a live wrap-up discussion to review content and share next steps. The virtual classroom opens to participants on September 6th, with new modules released for review each subsequent Monday at 9:30am ET (September 12th, 19th, and 26th). Following the release of course content on Mondays, live discussions will take place over Zoom on Fridays from 2-3pm ET (September 16th, 23rd, and 30th). The final wrap-up/synthesis discussion will take place at 2-3pm ET on Tuesday, October 4th. Participants will continue to have access to the virtual classroom for six weeks following conclusion of the course. Click here to learn more and register today!

Seeking Beta-Testers for CCAHA¡¯s Collections Management Policy Toolkit
The Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts is looking for organizations to serve as beta-testers for our upcoming Collections Management Policy Toolkit (CMPT). Developed with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the Toolkit is a free online tool that allows you to build a custom Collections Management Policy for your institution. Developed with help from nationally renowned experts in the collections management field, the CMPT will guide users step-by-step through the development process to create a policy that is uniquely tailored an organization¡¯s collection and meets professional, ethical, and legal standards. We at CCAHA have been hard at work over the last year building out this tool and are excited to be entering one of the final phases of development: testing! Before officially launching the CMPT this fall, we are recruiting a small number of collecting institutions who will receive early access to the tool to test its functionality and help us ensure that the final product can serve a wide variety of organizations and collection types. So whether you¡¯re looking to build a Collections Management Policy from scratch or need to revise one that¡¯s out-of-date, the CMPT is here to help! We want to ensure our beta testers represent a wide variety of institution types, sizes, and geographic regions, so we are asking all interested beta testers to share some details about their organization using the form here. If your organization is a good fit, we¡¯ll be in touch with more details about the beta testing process and how to get started creating your very own Collections Management Policy! Please note: Organizations selected for beta testing will be expected to complete at least 75% of the policy-building process and report all feedback to CCAHA by August 15th. Before submitting, please consider any upcoming conflicts that may make it difficult to complete the testing in time.
