The Senate's vote to confirm Pete Hegseth has been delayed multiple times and there have been reports that three Republican Senators may oppose his confirmation, Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). If they do, a fourth Republican Senator's vote would still be needed to block his confirmation. Although Senator John Curtis has not indicated that he has changed his mind about supporting Hegseth, reports have suggested that he and Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) could reconsider in light of the new allegations and sworn affidavit the Senate received earlier this week. After reviewing the affidavit, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement yesterday: "As I have said for months, the reports of Mr. Hegseth's history of alleged sexual assault, alcohol abuse, and public misconduct necessitate an exhaustive background investigation. I have been concerned that the background check process has been inadequate, and this affidavit confirms that fact." His statement continued, "This behavior would disqualify any service member from holding any leadership position in the military, much less being confirmed as the Secretary of Defense." We want to share this information and invite you to consider calling Senator Curtis's office, again, to express your opinions.
