Running a 36V 3.5HP motor @ 48V

James DeVito All Messages By This Member #19080 Hi All-? Currently working on a Citicar that has a 36V motor but a 48V charger. Were these models actually driven with 48V to the 36V motor? And I suppose that means I should be following the "48V model" diagrams from this service manual?? The car didn't come with batteries so I cannot tell from that unfortunately. Ok so what I’m hearing then is that it is OK to use 48V batteries even though it is a 36V motor, and it actually even came from the factory that way. Barton Fisher All Messages By This Member #19084 Edited I think it would be ok - motor may get HOT - There should be a fan to cool motor and a light on the dash Send a picture of the battery compartment maybe there is enough room for 48v.
