I am pretty sure d&d says keep the motor temp below 220f. I know that all of their motors have the same rating. They give that temp with compensation for hot spots. So 220f is not a damaging temperature for any one spot. I used a thermal temp gun you buy at autozone or the hardware store for $20. I monitor the temperature on many runs including summer heat. Highest reading I had was 185f so I dont check often now. One thing I noticed is at around 200f you will smell a hot motor smell. With the 1/4 20 holes... is this the mounting holes for the cooling hose plate? Or are they the inlet size holes for air to move through to cool the motor. The first motor I tried had an outlet for air about 1/4 by 1/2 and was not nearly enough. The side of the motor with the holes is going to let enough air out, but how big is the inlet?

Also your inlet if it is a big cutout you should be just fine. The set up looks good. What I would reccomend is making sure your contacts on the contractors are clean. Mine would get very hot due to oxidation. I scuffed them up and now they are better. That I would keep an eye on of you have not checked that out. A loose or poor connection due to corrosion or paint will make the connection point hotter.?

It's a class h motor, so it can get pretty hot safely. Like 180c. That's hot!? But I get some piece of mind and the ability to add heating back for the cold days. I'm thinking of installing a thermocouple gauge like a cylinder head temp gauge just to keep an eye on the temp on the long runs. My f/r contacts are nearly brand new, as well as my main contactor.??

My contactor is in great shape and has been performing well since I rebuilt the contact side. Eventually it will fail. It's old, even with new contacts. It now only operates with the f/r switch, so it's not the main contact. My main contactor takes the bulk of the work now, going to my alltrax.? took a 25 mile trip just now. Motor temp was way down from last time. The cooling is functioning great. I used way less power it seemed. I take tis same stretch often. I felt like I had a lot more left than usual. That's great too!??

Speedometer was more complicated, but it should work if I can locate a cable. It's about 114"? I bet it fits something else and can be bought off a shelf somewhere but I'm striking out so far. Might have to go custom built cable. For the moment I'm using my phone GPS speedo and its ok till I find a cable.?
That's great Dave, ? ? ? How did the speedometer work? What HP is the motor rated at. I'm close to buying one too. -- Cheers Tony P 1980 Orange Comuta-car

Great work! ?The contacts will last much longer with the Alltrax (compared to the stock contactor 3-speed setup) because they aren¡¯t typically switching at high currents, so not much arcing going on.? Tom Keenan

? My contactor is in great shape and has been performing well since I rebuilt the contact side. Eventually it will fail. It's old, even with new contacts. It now only operates with the f/r switch, so it's not the main contact. My main contactor takes the bulk of the work now, going to my alltrax.? took a 25 mile trip just now. Motor temp was way down from last time. The cooling is functioning great. I used way less power it seemed. I take tis same stretch often. I felt like I had a lot more left than usual. That's great too!?? My contractor was good but the copper jumper on the contractor was my weak point. I did not scuff up the surface of the whole jumper, just the contact point. That was the problem, I forgot to clean the whole copper aera that the electrons will flow over. They whole jumper has to be clean not just the contact point. Just a word to the wize.?

It's a class h motor, so it can get pretty hot safely. Like 180c. That's hot!? But I get some piece of mind and the ability to add heating back for the cold days. I'm thinking of installing a thermocouple gauge like a cylinder head temp gauge just to keep an eye on the temp on the long runs. My f/r contacts are nearly brand new, as well as my main contactor.?? Hi Dave and all, Get a temp gauge and know for sure.? What max temp does the label say? ?? Likely 180F plus. ? Jerry?

I was still nervous I was going to get too hot. The inlet was an easy adaptation. 2x 1/4-20 holes tapped. And a few holes to allow airflow.? On Thu, May 14, 2020, 6:07 AM jerry freedomev via <freedomev= [email protected]> wrote:
Hi Dave and All, ? These EV motors run very hot to the touch which cooks at just 130F.? So if you can touch it without being burned, it is very good. Adding say a computer fan or 2 blowing air onto it and available in 48vdc isn't a bad idea.? MPJA electronics surplus in Palm Beach? is a source and online catalog. ? I get switches, fuse holders, DC-DC, etc from them too. Jerry?

And it works great! I took a 15 mile run and was flawless,? but I think I'm going to ass the cooling to it. Its warm-hot. Outside is still pretty cold around here.? Seems worth it for an hour or two of work for piece of mind.? All I can say for sure is its 114-115inches. long. Going for a test drive soon. Installed fast.?
I have a suspicion that it may be the same cable as used on a 1976 Pacer.? I replaced the speedo cable in my 1976 Citicar at one point, but no longer have the reference number for the ¡®original¡¯ vehicle.? Some parts for C-Cars were originally sourced as stock parts for small cars of the era, such as brake master cylinders.

Well, I couldn't find a cable nos, and I found one through Facebook, used that had a funny end compared to mine that was expensive. so I got to visit a nice place named Bob's speedometer about 45 minutes from here.? It's a shame it's a quarantine state right now, as I bet Jeff the fellow who is making it is a wealth of information,? but conversation is short now. My cable is being built tomorrow for close to $150.? Bit more than I expected,? but didn't? think I'd have to go the custom built route, so it seems fair, and less than that used one was offered for. Maybe have it installed tomorrow.? I would suggest if you add the speedo option to this motor have d&d leave the shaft out the front but leave only 1/2 inch. Then have them drill a centered hole to fit that arctic cat speedo adapter.? That's easier than what I did but someone had to try. Lol. Luckily I have the tools and resources to do a bit of stuff myself. There are still 3 speedo shops in a relatively close distance to me still in operation. I'll make some calls soon if I can't find a used one.?
