Just one thing to be aware of - groups.io will likely be $2,200 a year for hosting. The pictures area of the present Yahoo group is probably more than 10gb, which is the break point for a relatively inexpensive hosting ($110/yr). ?Above 10gb for the group, including all text, files, pictures, etc. and we will need to pay the more expensive amount. ?Every year.

Once you identify how/who will pay, and the limit they will pay, let me know and I can add the groups.io to the list to make the transfer.?

Tom, this is true.? I have download (i think) the entire yahoo c-car group and was a bit over 8.3 GB including the pictures. I'm sure there is junk that could be removed to reduce the size somewhat.?

I have no problems paying the $110 a year. But?$2,200 would be hard to justify.
Groups.io solution is to start removing older posts/pictures once the limit has been reached.

I went ahead and ask for the transfer of the yahoo group to groups.io site. They said it would happen within the next 7 days once [email protected] has been made an authorized member.

I’m sure there are some duplicate pictures in there - so the data size can be brought down by careful maintenance. I’ll add that email to the group.?

Read the fine print.? My memory's declining but I think that it said
that enthusiast groups were free.

Tom, if you'd read the fine print you'd have seen that for hobbyist
groups, the charge is $0 regardless of the volume of data.? The prices
on the landing page are for commercial customers.

Hi Tom,

I guess there is one more step to allow groups.io to start transfer.

"We have accepted the invite to your group. If you have not already, make?[email protected]?a moderator of your group. Once you have done that, tell us when you are ready to transfer your group."

BTW: If any of the current moderator wish to be a moderator on the groups.io forum, please have them contact me after they register so I can updated them to moderator status

So I have only been casually following the posts and don’t have any insight on what individual members of the group are required to do in order to maintain connections.

?

Will the transfer automatically occur or do we have to actually do something with the link?? I sort of assumed that the moderators are handling it..

?

By the way, I am the proud owner of an early (73-74) citi car in unrestored condition.? One of these days soon I hope to get it at least parade worthy.

My understanding is you will get notified after the transfer has been completed.? However I don't know if this automatic or if I need to upload the current (yahoo mail list) to send the welcome message.? Let's see what?happens

I have moved a couple of groups, and you should get an automated email saying you have been added to the Group.IO group.? The biggest issues with the migrations seems to be that you have to get past the invite of the agent and many of the moderators do not read the message correctly thinking that they have successfully invited.

I'm watching all messages
I see they say " will be down for maintenance this evening, starting at 6PM Pacific"
