Telenet Port

I added a Telenet port to my BBS . I receive this message when I try to access the port. SORRY APPLICATION CHAT IS NOT RUNNING....PLEASE TRY LATER.

You are showing a LOT of errors in your config file.? Perhaps it would be best if you posted your entire bpq32.cfg (less personal/passwords) file together with your expectations of what you want BPQ to provide.
?
Before you do anything you should probably update to the latest version, 6.0.24.45 at least.

I'll also be glad to assist offline if you want (email, telephone, remote, etc.)? My email address is MDTAYLORLRIM at GMAIL dot COM
?
My node pages at

Hi Mark thank you for your quick responser. I am?running a BBS ?with the software. For the most part everything is working correctly.?I want to add a Telenet link. ?

There is no installer for a minor update.?? To update locate the Mail and Chat programs, and the bpq32.dll at ? and just drop them in the appropriate folders replacing the existing same named files.
?
?
You do need to resolve the errors in your startup. While many will cause no harm you really need to resolve them to be sure there is no fatal error.
?
Chat does not rely on the Telnet port so just do not start chat for now.? I see that it is running, but you get the message, but if it not configured it will not allow access.? You probably need to configure the chat application and add an APPLICATIONS statement for it to work.
?
Remove the quality statement, and the relayapp statement, and change your sessions to about 4-5.? You do not need 15 sessions.
?
Restart the BPQ Console app only. Telnet into your node.?? Your telnet port will probably work. Navigate through your node commands to prove your telnet port works.
?
?
It may just be that you are unable to access Chat via telnet.? Start your chat program and look through the configuration. The Chat Appl Number refers to the APPLICATIONS command in your bpq32.cfg file.? They must match. So, if you cannot get it to work lets see theapplications lines and the chat configurations screen.
?
?
Then lets see the window with the title BPQ32.dll Console Version 6.0.24.1
Any one of those errors may cause your problems.?
?

Marc I have successfully configured the chat app. I still can¡¯t gat Telenet to work.I will not do any updates until the issue is solved.Inline image

It looks like you are trying to connect to your telnet port from a BPQ terminal window.? That is not going to work, or at least it does not work when I do the same with my well configured install.? Telnet port is for connections from other than BPQ.
?
For example, if you have a Telnet client installed in Windows, start that client and connect using that client to your BPQ machine's IP address using port 8010.? You should then see the telnet prompt in your config:
?
user:_
?
?
Windows has a telnet client that you have to activate but it is easier to use something like PuTTY.? It has both telnet and ssh client connection protocols.

Now, having said that.... you did use the BPQ Terminal to connect to chat.? You just need to identify yourself properly using the /N command.? Because of the slight error in your attempts it entered your name as a /b

?
?
Also, your chat program has it's own console.? On the Chat program UI select the Windows menu item, then Chat Console.

Mark yes?I did try contacting to the Telenet server from??the Terminal program. I also tried from the Chat App and the console with no success. You did mention in an earlier message I could connect to the server through the consul..It¡¯s just a bit frustrating because I want the NODE to work a certain way before I make it operational.

You must use a Telnet Client to connect to the BPQ Telnet Port to test it.
?
Once you have an application that uses the telnet port (http, CMS, etc) it too can help prove your telnet port works.
?
If you tell us what exactly you are trying to do we can help you better.? You cannot really expect you to have a fully configured node working the way you want without following logical steps and proving each step works before moving on and building up to the final configuration.? Maybe I'm not the one to help you here.

If you look at the bottom line of the attached image it clearly states to type in TELNET and would probably connect to the server.

Well, no it didn't. It said "Telnet into your node."? It appears that was misunderstood to imply typing telnet somewhere - not exactly sure where.

Windows has a command line telnet client. Not sure if you are using Windows 10 or 11, but how to install it is not hard to find - examples below.

You can also use a program such as PuTTY or MobaXTerm (free downloads) as a telnet client in Windows. Either way you will need to telnet to the port specified at the TCPPORT in your telnet server configuration.? Based on what you shared earlier, the port is 8010.

Thomas,

You show to have been typing "Telenet", such as c telenet.? Shouldn't it be "Telnet"?

Lee I downloaded Putty. I would like to use it to test my Telenet node. What do I need to enter?

Tom, ?http access which you are doing relies on Telnet. Therefore we know it works. ?The question I would have is what is it you expect to use it for? ?Telnet is of course a security risk.?

Sorry for the delay. I didn't realize that I never downloaded and installed PuTTY after changing computers a while back. I've been using MobaXterm and Tera Term for SSH & Telnet from Windows.

Assuming you are running PuTTY on the same computer as BPQ, you can telnet to it by changing the default from SSH to "Other", and "Telnet" should already be selected to the right. Use 127.0.0.1 for the hostname and Port 8010 assuming that's your TCPPORT setting in your telnet port in BPQ. Then click the "Open" button to connect.

When you telnet to the node with PuTTY, etc. you will have a terminal, but IMO not a very good one.

The BPQ terminal that comes with the Windows version is probably a better choice - or download QtTermTCP.
