A fairly quiet day in respect of Solar Flares with one M class flare from AR13697.
I normally monitor GQD and DHO. GQD has been down for a few day so relying on DHO for my daily dose of VLF observations. The M6 flare had timings of? Start: 1450 Peak:1506 and End:1522 according to SpaceweatherLive. My timings were slightly out as this is a secondary observation but the weird thing is I can see a blast of interference from GQD (or something close) at exactly the same time. Did anyone else see this or can explain what is going on? The spikes at 1700 are typical and fairly normal here. Something obviously being turned on r off. The step effect is caused by my freezer cycling on and off.. Thanks -- -- Martyn |

Yes, I am inclined to agree with you but... yesterday, an M class merging with an X class flare, Start 1055, ending approx 1200 and almost the same thing happened again. The correlation on the start time is almost exact, the interference burst type changed at the dip of the X type.. Something strange going on.. Clearly a interference burst accentuated by a depressed or enhanced D layer? BTW, I do get some interference bursts that I cannot correlate with a flare.. It's just these timings above that seem strange. Here is one that didn't... -- -- Martyn |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI've attached my plot for 10th June. 22.1kHz is a yellow trace which just sits in the noise with other inactive freqs. ? I still think that you are a victim of coincidence - like your normal interference spike at just after 17:00 happened to coincide with a brief transmitter outage at 23.4kHz. ? You could argue that your burst at 22.1kHz was influenced by the brief appearance of Grindavik on 37.5kHz - blue trace between 11 and 12....... ? It's interesting that your interference has the same pattern on the two days. I wonder if you can DF it? What does its spectrum look like? What does it sound like? ? Mark ? ? ? ? ? ? |
