ATW Steady 2
I'm not sure this is the proper place for this, but here goes: Long story short, I inherited my grandfather's old 'big' lathe. Originally thought that it was an early ATW, turns out it is a 16" South Bend. Apparently when my grandfather bought the SB, there was also a milling machine, shaper and an ATW lathe in the mix. From what I understand the ATW lathe was little more than a bed, steady rest and a few other assorted parts. Most of the other stuff has dissapeared, in fact, I have no memory of any of the other stuff. However, I still have the steady rest with an adapter to use on the SB. Even with the adapter to fit on the SB, it doesn't really fit totally right. As I have a line on several parts (to include the proper steady), I'd like to send the ATW attachment on its way. I figure that here would be right place as ATW lathes are not all that common. Is there any interest? Unfortunately I do not know for sure what size lathe the steady rest was from. All I know is that the bed was very long, at least 10', if not longer. However, I do belive that it had a similar swing to the SB, 15' - 16" or so. I have attached pictures. In them you can see the adapter so it would fit on the SB, it has been removed, but if someone wants it they can keep it I guess. I hope that someone knows what the casting numbers mean, as I don't. I also included some rough dimensions that I took of the feet. I haven't seen any ATW steadies to evilbay, so I'm basing my asking price on the SB parts that I've been looking at. I see prices all over the place, but $300 seems to be average. I guess I'd be willing to pay about $250 + shipping. How does that sound? I am more than willing to negotiate. Is there any interest? If so, let me know and we can move this conversation to email to be more private. Edwin
