Forget that HAM culture. A better strategy is to make a good magnetic loop that has almost no response to the electric field, then keep it away from the *magnetic noise* - which is easier to achieve,

Many of the small AC adapters are cheap switching type supplies. Get a
linear supply with a transformer...a little bulkier but no more switching
hash to pick up in a receiver.
