What is Bertren or iBertren ? (A little hard to tell from the typeface used by 'them'). Because, I have unwittingly become the owner of...? two...? The suspense would last longer if we did not have you know what! cheers D |

Apologies for delay completing this line of enquiry. I got sidetracked AND the pics weren't any use so I'm reshooting today.
Here anyway is the external packaging- What is interesting, or is this just mispackaged, is the RR car inside. At face value it is an A1G? I will attempt to photograph close up trucks and u/b detail. I also obtained a similar SP car without box, but appears to have different u/b (from memory). regards davew |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have that same car in 1st gen Atlas packaging, but I always believed it was made for them by Rivarossi.?Cheers, Martin? Sent from a mobile device, may contain typos On Mar 8, 2019, at 7:54 PM, dave w via Groups.Io <nzntrains@...> wrote:

All Atlas passenger cars were made by Rivarossi.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYeah,? That¡¯s what I thought. So my guess is either it¡¯s mispackaged (the paper insert seems to be pretty modern) or Rivarossi (more likely Hornby) made the same car for Ibertren more recently. My car had (before I mangled it) lighting, does this one? You can tell by the wipers on the underside of the trucks. Cheers, Martin? Yes, it is entirely possible the tooling has been used since Atlas ended its relationship many years ago in the early seventies. Rivarossi, themselves with their brand, made many more of the cars afterwards in many roadnames.
The smooth side and corrugated cars were illuminated in the original Atlas iteration and the heavyweights weren't. However, I believe lighting kits were made for the heavyweights.
Unfortunately, if you have been posting pictures, I haven't been able to see them. I don't know if it is an AOL issue or not.

Thanks Doug, Mike and others. Of course I realised RR made all the A1G, I was without stating looking for confirmation is all that these were contemporary/ synonymous models. First pic was in-line as I'm using site (always do/ have). These I'll add as attachments. See how it goes Doug. The original does feature in the Groups 'Emailed Photos' folder, but that may be a 'feature' not a fact (!). Attached are- - 1 - one truck and u/b from each, - 2 - each model side view, - 3 - plus original as packed. Yes the car is as spec'd on A1G. Lighting- no, no sign of any. The bolster pins are steel screws but I see no wipers and theres no internal connections. Regards davew ![]()

I think it's very clear here that the A1G/Rivarossi car is in an incorrect Ibertren box.? I would expect to see a proper nest for the car and I don't.?
The Rivarossi tooling was used again post-A1G, with cars made for Con-Cor and then marketed under the Arnold brand.? If I recall correctly, there was no lighting in the Arnold versions.? I think the most common way these cars were sold was in three-packs.? Sorry about the attachments not showing.? The photo in the third post in this thread, or the first post for March 8, didn't come up for me either. Cheers, George (list-owner) |

I will try and check with seller, who possibly wasn't the original purchaser of them but see what provenance I can find. I see currently Con-Cor has found a few 'old stock' and is helpfully selling @$27 with MTL trucks under them (or maybe has been for a while).? Technical- I looked at the sometimes useful diagnostics Mozilla provides via its' 'Inspect Element' functions, and it seems the backroom services 'Bootstrap' etc. did not like the graphic. I have flattened and resized to approx 200mm square and revised naming (not sure an * is liked in Unix/ Win environment). See if it works now as an attachment. Question is, can you see these in the 'Emailed Photos' folder? If so delete duplicates with impunity, ;-) I've sent the diagnostics to MarkF (iogroups) to see if he can help, regards dave w PS- On the 50' Bulkhead I'm dragging the chain as I sought other info from D&RGW contacts. |

I've looked thru the passenger fleet tonite and have found some of the RR/ Arnold as heavyweight Pullmans. Same mount screws but as you say no lighting. Ok so mystery solved. They are what they are. Wheels need replacing and new couplers. Will decide later whether one becomes a Rock Island tail. Thanks davew |

? ? On the Rivarossi passenger packaged in iBertran box might not be a mis-packaging but a re-packaging. As Atlas repackaged the Rivarossi car under their brand name the Spanish company iBertran my have done the same. Seen this done with a variety of model railroad merchandise over the years. Do you remember the company called Industrial Rail ? Use to sell freight cars in little white cardboard boxes. They had the clear plastic window on the front so you could see the car inside. The cars were nothing more than re-packaged Lifelike cars. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Rick
