Odd car

Edward Bridges

I recently purchased a boxcar off ebay which was sold as Atlas 2363
PRR 47011.

I also purchased the actual 2363. I think the cars were swapped in
their boxes. I have posted a picture of the odd boxcar in the photo
section.

I would like to know if this car is actually an A1G car or not. I
haven't received the car as of yet. After looking over the A1G
site, I cannot find a car lettered as this one is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Edward,

You're right, the first one you bought is not an A1G car. The 2363 is a wood
box car with road number 39857.

The one in your picture is probably a Con-Cor 1001E. Does it have any
indication on the underside of manufacturer? Is the under side plastic or metal?

Doug

Oops, I forgot you said you hadn't received the car as yet. When it does
arrive, look underneath to see if there is a manufacturer indicated.

Of course, even if it did start out to be a Con-Cor 1001E, that doesn't mean
somebody, sometime, didn't change parts around:>)

Well, at least I did get a box for the 2363 as it was listed as no
box.

Thanks for the information.

Hi, Glad to see some life in the A1G. I've been reading the e-mailings on Edwards new find of woodside box.E-bay is a great way to find some items especially in model railroading that would otherwise be hard to find. The thing that you really have to watch out for are the dis-honest sellers who try to pull the wool over the eyes of would be buyers. I know of a few individuals who got burned thru e-bay and didn't get what was pictured in the auctions. My friend Jeff bid on a Rivarossi steam loco that was suppose to be in mint condition. He won the bid and upon recieving it, notice it was all in parts. This wasn't broken during shipment, this was mailed out this way. So, when bidding on A1G cars, throughly check them out the best you can by checking the seller's rating (good or bad) and e-mail the seller with question concerning the item up for bid. The A1G site is the best place to check for proper A1G cars. Some people I've ran into think that all cars that were manufacturered in Austria are A1G cars even though they were made for other companies other than Atlas. A true Atlas A1G car will usually have the Atlas stamp on the bottom. As for e-bay, you'll have to take the stance of "buyer beware" when bidding. The best place to buy A1G cars are thru a model railroad swapmeet. Make a list of what cars your after using the A1G site for reference and throughly examine the cars you what to purchase making sure that the entire car is made of true A1G parts from it's road number to it's wheelsets. This site has worked great for me on finding cars, especially the two different color versions of the 40' steel double door IC boxcar. This came in brown and orange. It's odd seeing a IC boxcar that would normally at the time be orange in a brown color. I need to make a list and post them here of the A1G cars I got so far. My favorite being the Monon composite gondola. Always liked that one as a kid and I still do!

I need to make a list and post them here of the A1G cars I got so
far.
For those who care to read this, here is a list of what I have
accumulated within the past couple of months: (condition in
parenthesis)

2302 Safeway 50' reefer (MIB)
2321 SHPX centerflow hopper (MIB)
2341 CN depressed center flat (MIB)
2347 Subruban gas jumbo tank (MIB)
2348 Warren jumbo tank (MIB)
2363 PRR 40' OB wood box (ib/weathered/MTs)
2364 Seaboard 40' OB wood box (no box)
2368 Muncie & Western 40' OB wood box (no box)
2374 Reading 40' fishbelly flat (MIB)
2383 New Haven 40' box (MIB)
2422 M&StL 4 bay offset side hopper (no box)
3104 PC/TTX auto rack (complete car/all autos intact)

The majority of these I purchased off ebay, but I have some I
purchased at local swap meets and from other hobbyists.

I am also accumulating the locomotives and the passenger cars.

I see these cars at swap meets all the time, just never really was
interested in them until finding George Irwin's web site and saw
what all was produced. I like a challenge, so this new branch of
the hobby should prove to be a fun one.

I will post my duplicate cars for sale here so others who are
looking for cars can find them.
