New A1G "accumulator"

Edward Bridges

I have recently began to accumulate some of the old Atlas freight
cars, passenger cars and motive power. I figured since many
collectors want the M-T cars, I would go for some of the older Atlas
stuff I see at every single swap meet I attend, which usually goes
for pretty cheap prices.

I would like to find some information on A1G motive power (please
email me offlist concerning A1G motive power). I have
looked over George Irwin's A1G freight car site and found it a very
valuable resource. I have a small but growing group of freight
cars. Some in boxes, some not. I have a few locomotives (steam and
diesel). I am particularly interested in freight cars and steam
power at this time.

I found that accumulating these old Atlas cars is much easier and
not as stressful as trying to keep up with the M-T cars. Besides,
preserving the heritage on N Scale is something that should be
done. Atlas has come a long way, but I actually like the older cars.

I hope I can help some fellow hobbyists find some of these old cars
as I am currently on a buying spree, building my "accumulation". I
will eventually have some surplus cars. I will list my surplus
wares here first, so others who are preserving these cars can fill
the holes in their fleet.

Ah, finally some "traffic" on the A1G list!

It's good to hear that you are trying to complete an "accumulation" of the
first generation Atlas cars Edward. I did this about 4 (already THAT many years
ago) years ago via eBay.

I wanted them all because Atlas was what I started with in 1967 (Norfolk
Southern gondola first purchase) after 5 years of Lone-Star Treble-O-Lectric. I
was 15 at the time and was overwhelmed by the refinement compared to the
Treble-O stuff.

Now, the relative improvement in realism of the track, cars, locos, etc. are
considered rather crude by today's standards, but I still think they are
wonderful things.

Early on, on this list, I tried a quiz for members, which was to name the
three early packaging variations in the Atlas standard length (5") boxes, but got
no takers. Maybe now?

Also, it didn't take long to realize that there was a common European
manufacturer of Atlas, Minitrix, and some of AHM's cars..........Roco!

If you have any questions re these cars, please ask!

Regards,
Doug

PS, George has done a tremendous job on documenting these cars (except for
maybe indicating when the change was made from "bronze" colored wheels to
"black" hehe).

PPS, I hope George takes this in the good natured way it is meant.
