Hi gang,
I just obtained my first 2280 series double-door boxcar (2287 I.C.)
and I noticed the label calls this a "Machinery Car". Interesting.
Are the other cars in this series also labeled as such?
Labels for A1G cars changed over the years, but I also have the other two
cars in the series (PRR and TP&W) labeled as "Machinery Cars".
Was this a primary use of the prototype?
As far as I know the 40 foot double door box cars were general service in
the 1960's. In earlier decades they were used as automobile cars, and a
number of prototype cars had special racks for that purpose.
Also, I got a 2252 NYC Cattle Car and I was wondering (assuming
it's based on some kind of real car)why the reporting marks were
"NISX"? Just curious! Thanks,
The NISX reporting marks were registered to North American Car Company, a
major lessor at the time. NISX is what their stock cars were marked. But
I wouldn't confuse the NYC car with anything prototypical...
