Re: Rivarossi Car - Lackawanna RR 897-

I agree with Michael and there were other importers along the line too. Usually, Con-Cor would put one of their stickers with their catalog number on the package/box but not necessarily. Rivarossi made their heavyweight cars in many, many roadnames after the separation with Atlas.

Tom, you will find, as you delve more and more into first generation N scale rolling stock, that RoCo of Austria made cars for several importers back then (Atlas, AHM, Aurora, Minitrix, etc) and many of them were similar. However, there were almost always differences in several details on the bodies and often with the painting details too. So, cars from different importers were rarely, if ever, identical.
?
For example, your AHM car is almost the same as the Atlas 2303 NYC mechanical reefer (which actually had at least two different painting variations, itself) but with several detailing differences. The Atlas cars don't have the center stirrup steps as on the AHM car, the placards to the left of the plug door are centered in relation to each other, and the representation of the mechanical equipment venting is different. The plug doors are also different. As far as painting, the Atlas cars don't have the extra NYC insignia above "MECHANICAL REFRIGERATOR" on the right side.

OK so we know it's a RoCo car. It's a bit different from A1G cars. Look at the tack boards to the left of the plug door. Googling the pertinent information reveals nothing. There were many importers of RoCo-made cars.

Hi gang,

I've just added a photo to the A1G website page for the 2220 series of 40 foot plug door boxcars ("refrigerators").??

It's a recent find on eBay of a Therm Ice car with the blue printing out of register.?? It's not straight and it's not in line with the red "Therm" in "Therm Ice" as you'll see in the photo.? The other side of the car is find.

A "rare error"?!?? Maybe, maybe not, and certainly not a "super big bucks collectible"-- just a curiosity.?

Scroll to the bottom of the 2220s page on the A1G site for a look!

E-R Models 'Route Rock' paint scheme confirmed

Gang,

Thanks to a listing on eBay, I can confirm the paint scheme on the "Life after A1G" "Route Rock" bay window caboose that was commissioned and marketed by E-R Models.? It's white with black lettering including the "Route Rock" name on the left and the stylized "R" with blue center on the right.?? The road number is 17183.

I would try to snag it for The Cause, but the couplers have been changed out to what I think are silver Unimates versus the original Rapidos.??? Have at it if you'd like-- if you do, please send me a photo to post so I don't violate anyone's photo rights!

Cheers,

George
