AIG Pacific - Soft Drivers
Greetings all! I have an Atlas 1G Pacific I am attempting to resurrect. Upon disassembly, I notice the drivers are made of a dark gray material and are rather "soft". They are so soft I fear they will not stay in gauge once the unit is reassembled. Can anyone shed any light on this matter? Are they supposed to be soft like this . . . if not, is there a cure? I
know this is a long shot, but are there replacement drivers available
or does anyone have a set of drivers they would sell or "loan"? Thanks in advance. Dan

Re: A1G Building Kits
Believe it or not, I actually have been recently considering at least doing just that which is a fairly major step for me. Some of the track is ballasted now but I ran out of ballast that's the same color as Floquil boxcar red.

Just need some grass and dirt.

Re: A1G Automobiles
I must be tired or losing my mind. The 8 pack of automobiles is catalog number 2809, and NOT 2309, of course.

Re: A1G Automobiles
And now, of course, since I said red seems to be rare since only one out of the 48 automobiles in my four auto transporters is red, I see the two out of the eight pictured in the 2309 set are red, so maybe only rare to me. \:^)

Re: A1G Automobiles
The automobiles in the 2309 set are all Fords, assorted models and colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, gray, and black, red seems to be rare) - 2 door coupes, 4 door sedans, station wagons, and Mustangs. The exact model years are not clear but, given when they were first available, they must have been late sixties models. The Mustangs do look like late sixties fast backs.
?
And yes, the same automobiles were used to fill the 3101, 3102, 3103, and 3104 Auto Transporter cars.
?
There is no indication as to manufacture origin anywhere on the automobiles but we can maybe assume, since the rail cars were made by RoCo (Atlas Austria on the bottom, of course), the automobiles were too but there is no guarantee since various manufacturers often farm out part making to other manufacturers.

Re: A1G Building Kits
Thanks Martin and the factory color is a bit misleading in the picture because it looks white, which it almost is. Actually, it's brick colored but the mortar lines are so wide that when I filled them in with white, it kind of makes the whole surface look white in a photograph. The roof is a medium gray, the windows, a lighter gray, and the fillers around the windows, tan.
?
It's kind of the same with the machine shop.

Re: A1G Building Kits
开云体育Great picture Doug, and seeing your Atlas Factory, I realize that the kit I had was different. The side extension was only on one side, and the doors for railway access were only on one end, while I see i this photo that the doors appear to be at both ends. I was pretty sure those were Atlas buildings, but I could be
wrong. The building did come with a smokestack, and it could be
attached to the building or not. Cheers, Martin On 2022-06-03 2:42 p.m., Douglas Gosha

I would like to see this group continue. I have been in N scale since Thanksgiving 1967 when I received my first N scale trainset. This was an Arnold Rapido 0-6-0 and some freight cars. This little locomotive still runs well.
Finally, I am creating a list of everything I have collected since then. This list and its links and archives really have helped. I have had items to sell but by the time I found them the potential buyer either no longer needed them or lost interest.
Arnold Rapido, Minitrix, Con-Cor, Atlas and so on have evolved into many new brands and great models I could not dream of in 1970. The Atlas/Rivarossi passenger cars to me were wonderful. The Atlas/Rivarossi steam locomotives were wonderful in spite of their faults. Now we have even more wonderful steam models and diesels, and electrics, and turbines, and rolling stock. Great hobby. 55 years.
I also have a Lionel electric that dates from around the early 1920s.

I meant for the image to appear in the post but...maybe too large? Anyway, it is the attachment.

Re: A1G Building Kits
开云体育I've owned the same kit in at least two different colours, one
with red bricks and pale grey roof, the other with pink bricks and
a dark grey-green roof. The later was left on my layout when we
sold our house over 2 decades ago, but I think I may still have
the first one (sans original box) in storage somewhere. If the pic
goes through, you can just see (without the smokestack) it behind
the CN switcher. If not, try:

This was always one of my favorite kits to add to what ever layout I was building at the time. Though you had to allow enough real estate as the kit had one very large foot print. |
Re: A1G Automobiles
开云体育Agreed, I've never seen anything like this short of the Bachmann car/truck/bus/construction vehicle pack, which didn't even appear to be the same scale. Back in the day, I used to have to buy Wiking, Faller or Preiser for realistic vehicles until I discovered Road Apples and GHQ, but all of those were quite expensive. I wonder why Atlas stopped offering these? Were they made in Austria? Cheers, Martin On 2022-06-02 11:02 a.m.,

Re: A1G Automobiles
开云体育Thanks George,Do you know what type of automobiles are in the blister pack? When I worked at Engine House Hobbies in Wichita, Kansas, this was the sort of thing we had up front - like candy, magazines, etc at a grocery store. These were called "impulse items"; something that is not very expensive, has a good markup and that the customer buys on impulse. If you bought an empty autorack flat, from Con-Cor or similar, you could buy the automobiles to put on it. If you had made a little scene that had a parking lot, then the cars went into that area.
