Re: 1972 Catalog

Thanks -really cool. Unfortunately I can't read the text for most of the catalog as the images seem kinda small.

Thanks,Michael,

I always liked that little catalog and, in fact, used it as one of my main
references when collecting all of the A1G cars.

October 2012 RMC: '1975 Atlas N Scale'

umtrr

The October 2012 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman includes as its "Collector Consist" column a piece by Keith Wills called "1975 Atlas N Scale".

Beginning with a quick look at the state of N Scale before Atlas, Wills then discusses a few of what we know as A1G products, including the difference in design and detail of several of the A1G steam locomotives. He also says, "What is remarkable is the extensive variety of rolling stock offered...".

I've sent an e-mail to the editor of RMC via their website about the A1G website; hopefully that will be published in their letters column. (If anyone else would like to bring us to their attention-- feel free!)

Meanwhile, have a look at the October 2012 RMC-- it's nice to see the contributions of the Atlas First Generation recognized as the stepping stone it was to what we have today in N Scale.

Cheers,

Re: ADMIN: Yes, your list owner got hacked

George,
????? Also beware of Facebook.
I believe some of this spam crap is originating their.? I had problems with a similar issue with e-mails attached from people I knew (and also didn't know) that were from Facebook. The people I didn't know I found were linked to the ones I did know from there.? Facebook is hacker heaven for all the wealth of info that people supply on that site.? Best to keep personal information hidden from view there.

hi and thanks to the moderator for approving my request to join the group.

i am interested in some of the older roco atlas GPs for scratchbuilding purposes. i note that other european roco N electric and diesel locos have a 1.5mm axle and that gears can either be red or white.

i am wondering whether the whole range of atlas roco and european roco all used the same 1.5mm axle? or did they vary axle diameters as they did the gears?

many thanks in advance

ben

Ben,

I'v emanaged to swap geared axles on a variety of Atlas, Model Power, Life Like, and even the Con Cor E7 diesel models over the years; it seems as the though the axle is a non-official standard.

If you ever need parts, I have two GP (9 & 30) chassis with motors and gears in my parts box. The projects to convert them into "proper" GP9s was surpassed by Atlas releasing them!

What happened to those helium cars...

This prototype image was posted to Railpictures.net.

Take a look at the last visible car in the train. Something to model with two A1G helium cars for which you can't find the trucks?

FS: #3033 US ARMY HELIUM TANK CAR

MIKE

For sale: #3033 US Army helium tank car, I bought this car in the late seventies and only ran it once on my test track to check for wheel gauging and for bent axles. The car has been sitting for the last 35 years in a box of train items that I never got around to. The car is mint and the case, nest and insert are all in A1 quality condition. You can see were the tape from the factory used to be, but after 35 years the tape has dried up and fallen off. Asking $25.00 for the car plus $6.00 for shipping and Ins (USPS). Money Orders only please and shipping only to USA and Canada.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't adopt a "hosted" group, but maybe they get all the feedback they can handle from thier Facebook page? The archive answered a few questions for me over time, but I'm sure the knowledge will persist. Just gives me motivation to maintain my own data, not rely on it being in a forum (not just Atlas's forum) for all time...

With the impending end of the Atlas Forum as of May 1, 2012, I'll just reassure everyone that this group will continue.

This has always been a small, low volume group. It will be interesting to see if anyone new joins and posts.

I dropped in a "Final Shameless Plug" on the Atlas Forum, while I still could. We'll see. Newcomers will be moderated-- I will not be interested in non-A1G content here, nor negativity.

Cheers,
George (your list owner)

Re: WTB Atl;as # 2661 SF Coach

Hi Paul,
????? Have you done a search on e-bay?
Another place to check is a site called N Scale Yard Sale on Yahoo and do a search? and/or place a want ad that your looking for this car. You'll need to join the page in order to post on it. Another place to check is the used items on N Scale Supply that sells over the internet. I haven't seen any of the Santa Fe coaches recently but I haven't been looking for them either but I'm sure you'll find one some where with some digging.
