I'm here. sort of. I haven't touched my z80 system since it arrived from England, and honestly don't know if I ever will. Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) I introduced my workcenter, the base photo lab at Incirlic AS, Turkey, to computers with a Commodore C-64, as I'd given my dad my TRS-80 Model 1 Level 1 (and seriously upgraded) machine before leaving for Turkey in April 1983. We were an operating location of a detachment located at Aviano AB, Italy. We weren't getting the support from the base we were supposed to get, so we set up our own orderly room and ran it with that C-64, with 2 floppy drives, and an 801 dot-matrix printer. A few years later, I wound up with an H89 and a bit later, a Z90, both Z80 systems running HDOS & CP/M. Except for their inability to do color, they were far superior machines. And I loved CP/M. After I posted that check in, I talked to my brother, who found himself in possession of my dad's Sanyo MBC-1000. He's going to either delivery it to me, here in the OKC area, or I'll go up to his new digs in SW Missouri and pick it up. And anything else he has that I can talk him out of... ;) Dad got the Sanyo to replace the TRS-80, after it was struck by lightning. Got to keep the fried TRS-80, and gave to one of my brothers in law, who repaired it and got it running again. I'm trying to track down who has it, but most of my nieces and nephews grew up playing on that machine. I really wouldn't mind getting it back. :) Brother's Navy, spent a lot of time deployed in the Pacific Ocean while I was in Turkey and thereabouts. Mostly on C-64's. He's got a pile of them, I've only got two left. I loved to program the TRS-80, and the C-64, but I put myself online in the late 80's on the H/Z machines in CP/M with a 300 baud modem, and GENie. SWMBO was a sysop on the Amiga board, and active on the Writers RT. But that was long ago, and far, far away, and in another universe! If I were still programming, I'd love to be running a version of CP/M-86 on the machine I'm typing this on. Unfortunately, I gave up programming in the early 90's. And now my poor old brain starts making grinding noises when I try to do anything programming related. Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Aphorisms to live by: SEMPER GUMBY! I got exposure to computers like the TRS-80 Model II, Heath/Zenith's Z-series and DEC PDP-11's in the U.S. Navy. regards, David -- ex-DS2 (E-5) |
