What Lies in the Heart. Mikayla/The Dragon

- Mikayla -

?

Mikayla was quiet while Angus set up tea. She had already said enough to him. Enough that angered him and sent him on a nice tear. The problem was she couldn¡¯t remember what she had done or said...Other than the cow/people comment that is, but it was something. Her heart went out to him as he spoke. What that must be like, to remember to that he was once human but to not know how to get back to being that which he longed. She wanted to help him.

?

¡°There is no need for forgiveness,¡± Mikayla began as she slid the tray to her so that she could add sugar and honey. ¡°We are still learn each other. I¡¯m sure once the awkwardness fades we settle quite nicely.¡± She said picking up her own tea cup.

?

¡°And don¡¯t thank me just yet. I am quite bossy and i have several plans to make quite a bit of changes to this place. So you may still think me the same after we are done...or maybe even worse,"

she said with a teasing smile over the rim of her cup.

?

(The Dragon, Angus)

?

"Changes?" The Dragon said, suddenly alert, his reptilian eyes narrowing at Mikayla over the rim of his dragon-sized tea cup. "What kind of... changes?" He hesitated, then glanced self-consciously around the room at the stone walls, the large bulky furniture, the flat grey slabs of slate covering the floor. "Is... is something not to your liking?" he asked finally, looking back to the girl. "I've never given it much thought. It was all this way when I first... when I first came to be here."? He took a long sip from his cup, muttering "It serves me well enough."

?

But after a moment, The Dragon relented.? "What exactly do you want to change? ?Angus here can do some small repairs, he's only one, uhm, man.? I don't have any skilled carpenters or masons on hand, and getting any to come here would, I think, be rather problematic."

?

"Tis' true, Mistress," Angus said apologetically to Mikayla.? "I'm more than willing, but I don't possess the knowledge or the skill.? And the stones of the keep are massive and heavy."

?

"It would be different if I still had all of my magic skill," The Dragon mused.? "I never had call for the spells used to craft and shape things much, but I know such spells exist and can probably be found in the tomes the keep has in its library." His head cocked sideways as he regarded Mikayla.? "But it will mean you resuming your lessons in reading them."

Mikayla?

Mikayla chuckled at the their worried faces. Seeing them shuffle about to try to figure out what exactly she meant was comical.

"We don't have to chisel stone to make this place a home." she said sipping her tea. Then she put her cup down. "I would like to plant a garden with fresh fruit, veggies and flowers. I would like to open up the shutters so that some light and natural light filters into the rooms. I would like to start having dinner together as a family, and that includes Angus. I would like to take the time to make this place more homey, cosy, inviting. Maybe by doing so you won't be so grumpy. I want to give you both something worth waking up in the morning. Those are the changes I would like to make. But you both have a say. This was your home before it was mine, so I would like you to both be excited about the changes. However if you are not and don't want it. I will not do it," She said eyeing both the men in front of her. "So what do you say? Would you like me to grace this place with a woman touch, or would you prefer this woman stay in her place?"?

The Dragon exchanged an uncertain glance with Angus, then looked back to Mikayla when the servant could only shrug back helplessly.? "I give you permission to effect whatever changes you wish to make within the keep," the Dragon said, his deep voice sending vibrations though the stones in the floor and walls, quickly adding an anxious "short of burning the place down, that is.? It might be... interesting... to see something different for a change.? Angus will assist you in whatever ways you feel he can be of use."
?
Angus touched his forehead in dutiful acknowledgement of his instructions.? The Dragon turned to leave, but scowled at Mikayla sourly.? "I seriously doubt if any being could make you you stay in your place, whatever that is.? His draconic features then softened slightly.? "But I do hope that you will find some time amid your 'changes' to resume your magic studies.? I... I would consider it a personal favor."??
?
With that, the Dragon left the chamber, exiting through the massive balcony, though instead of flying off, he chose to climb up the stones of the exterior wall until he disappeared from view.? Angus turned to Mikayla and asked "As the Master said, I am yours to command.? At least for now."

This Would have been happy¡estactic even at the fact that The Dragon was giving her cartbanche to make the change she knew she could to potential turn the glum sadness of this place around. But The Dragon grumbly said his piece then left just as quickly as he arrived. He didn¡¯t even say he would help.
?
¡°He didn¡¯t even stay for tea.¡± She whispered softly. A sadness filling her deep brown eyes.?
?
Her studies¡that was all he cared about. Not her or spending time with her or getting to know her¡just grooming her Magicks.
?
¡°Thank you Angus.¡± She said the sadness leaching into her once happy and playful voice. ¡°I think I¡¯m going to go for a walk within the keep. Explore things. See what supplies I can find.¡± She said trying to sound cheery but not knowing if she succeeded.
?
¡°That tea was delicious.¡± She said as she left the room.

?

The Dragon flew to a place he hadn't been to in a long time.? He'd never had a reason to before, at least no reason beyond curiosity.? The stories that every dragon had a hoard were not always true, but in the case of the one that formerly held the keep they turned out to be quite true.? Not a huge hoard to be sure, but it was sufficient to his need of the moment.

?

Perching on a ledge on the side?of a cliff, The Dragon moved a pile of enormous boulders aside to reveal a hidden cave.? It was a close fit as he crawled inside, but once inside there was enough room to move about.? The cavern?was littered from end to end with all manner of bright and shiny things, but also adorned with fine-worked silk, carpets, and tapestries.??

?

The Dragon paused a moment, pondering what might best please Mikayla.? He regretted that his studies - when he was human - had led to his neglect of understanding people.? Particularly women.? But there was nothing he could do about that now.? He would just have to make his best guesses and hope that some of them might appeal to the girl.

?

He had to make several trips.? There was a limit to how much he could carry, not so much because of the weight as because of the awkwardness of hanging on to things while flying.? He frown with annoyance when periodically he'd drop a jeweled chalice or a candelabra over a ravine or river, but kept to his purpose and flew on, taking each load back to the keep where he deposited them on the stone floor of the open chamber.? On one trip he encountered Angus in the room but gestured for the servant to keep silent and to not let the girl find out what he was doing.? It took the better part of the day spent flying back and forth between hoard and keep before he felt he had enough.

?

As the sun began to set, The Dragon summoned Angus.? "Go fetch the girl and bring her here," he rumbled softly. His reptilian features quirked in what approximated an anticipatory smile.? "I want to see the look on her face at what I have brought her."

- Mikayla -
Sadness filled Mikayla as she walked through the keep. While she did do exactly what she told Angus she would do, mark and catalogue various items that she could move to adjust to redecorate the place to make the space homier and inviting she would be lying to herself if she didn't acknowledge how hurt she felt right now that The Dragon had just dismissed her and their tea. She was trying...really trying to get to him him and to help him and to build a relationship with her and it seemed it was determined to keep her at arm's length. And she didn't understand why? What did she do to him? No...no she wasn't going to make this about her. She didn't do anything to him but be personable and friendly and take care of him when he needed to her and he had been nothing but ghastly to her.?

Wandering about she came to a door again. The one with the strange name. Feeling just as drawn to it as she did before, she tried to get in, and just like last time the door did not open...at first. But as soon as she touched the name, Mikayla's eyes began to glow a soft blue. Almost trance-like she chanted a quick magical phrase and there it was, with a soft push the door opened and she was inside.?

Just like before Mikayla was instantly entranced by the magical energy that flowed through the room. The hearth was ablaze for her and the soft sheath rest upon the bed Calling to her like before. Without quite knowing what she was doing, Mikayla, slipped off her dress and put on the thin gauzy material. Once again she could not help but rub upon her flesh in the most sensual of ways at the feel of it against her skin. But the hands did not feel like her own to her...they felt...different, familiar.

Like before, her footfalls took her to the pedestal that stood in the middle of the room with the old leather-bound book upon it. Stand before the book, a soft wind cause the book to open and pages to blow. Still, with her deep brown eyes glowing blue, she spoke. her voice sing-song and not really her own.

"I beckon thee come to me.
Across time and space.
I beckon thee come to me
now within this place.
I beckon thee come to me
Come within this door.
I beckon thee come to me,
now like I knew you before."

At that point and energy rose and grew flowing fast up and through the keep, seeking out the only other the spell was made for...The Dragon.?
