Port Vega: Gen at the Lighthouse
¿ªÔÆÌåÓý(Gen) When Gen awoke, it was dark.? It took her a moment to orient herself, but the smell of the sea and the sounds of water and ships passing in the distance told her she was back in the lighthouse.? She sat up in the bed, hugging her knees.? It felt strange to be back in this place, as if she was waking up from a vivid but quite confusing dream. The rumbling of her stomach reminded her that it had been a while since she'd last eaten. For ordinary people it might not have been long, but with her hyper-metabolism she burned up calories faster than ordinary people.? Food immediately became the first order of business. Rising from the bed, she walked over to a cabinet the last occupants of the lighthouse had left behind them.? Tucked away under the bottom-most drawer was the money she'd stashed from her last snatch-and-grab from one of the Russian mob's bagmen.? She peeled off a handful of bills from a bundle and then stashed it away again.? More than enough, she thought as she slipped the bills into her pocket.? She looked down at her clothes, remembering that she was back in her old ones once again. Again, the strange feeling nipped at her, wondering how the previous couple of days seemed so different and so far away now. The androgyne ascended to the light room and from there went out through the window onto the balcony ring.? The lights on the shore glittered enticingly and her stomach again rumbled a reminder of its needs.? Gen willed her wings to extend, perched on the balcony rail and then launched herself into the night sky. It felt good to be flying once again, out in the open air of the harbor.? Her wings worked with a frenzied joy and she quickly darted towards the shore, the lights growing brighter and more numerous as she drew near.? A sudden craving for fried seafood hit her and she veered sharply rightward and down, remembering a shoreside diner that stayed open all night, run by a young chatty Greek man named Ari who served generous platters filled with perfectly delightful assortments of seafood.? Landing in a nearby alley, Gen shifted back into normal girl-mode, her wings quickly retracting into her body.? She then strolled over to where the light from Ari's Dockside spilled out onto the boardwalk.? "Hi, Ari," she called out cheerfully as she slid onto a stool. "Sly?" Ari said, raising a bushy eyebrow as he looked up at his customer.? His mouth quirked wryly.? "Long time no see, Sly.? Where you been, girl?" "Oh, you know, just around," she said, shrugging casually as she looked up at the menu boards. "Trying to stay out of trouble." "A full-time job in your case," Ari said, following her glance and looking back at her.? "The usual, I'm guessing?" "That'd be really great," Gen said, spinning around on her stool.? "If I was any hungrier, I'd be halfway in your dumpster already with my butt hanging out over the side." "Three king-size fisherman's platters with extra fries and hot sauce, coming up," Air said, turning around and pulling packs of shrimp, cod, scallops and clams out and setting them near the grill that was always hot and ready.? "And two 2-liter bottles of RC with plenty of ice." She chatted amiably with the man while he worked, and soon had three steaming platters piled high with delicious-smelling fried seafood along with a huge basket of fries and two squirt bottles of hot sauce.? She mumbled a quick "Thanks" as she quickly dug in, forking her mouth full, chewing furiously and swallowing, moaning with pleasure as the food hit her stomach.? "So googf," she managed around mouthfuls as she continued to devour the first platter while already eying the second.? "You're the beft, Ari!"
