Re: What Lies in the Heart. Mikayla/The Dragon

开云体育

(Angus, The Dragon)

"The Master is fond of tea," Angus admitted, nodding his head. "But it's frustrating for him now. The cups are far too small and delicate, and cannot hold more than what amounts to a single sip in his current size. And he finds drinking from a bowl undignified. Still..." he mused "... it is a fairly simple spell. It might be a good one to start with."

The seemed to shimmer a bit as Mikayla read, the words shifting about on the page, forming symbols that suddenly began to make sense to the young woman. Words formed on her lips and tongue, causing them to tingle as she spoke them.? A feeling of power came over her, flowing from the symbols on the page into her fingers as she moved them from line to line. And the words she spoke into the air took on color and substance, swirling in an incandescent cloud that she found she could manipulate and cause to move in whatever direction she cast her gaze.

"Excellent, mistress," Angus said, unable to mask his excitement.? "Now, try to make your conjuration take form. Just focus on what you want it to be.? If the spell is properly bound to your will, it will respond.? Something simple would be best." ?

Back in his chamber, the Dragon remained asleep, but even in his slumber he could feel the working of magic emanating from the other part of the keep.? It was familiar, and yet different somehow. The working of something he himself had done but by someone whose technique was new to him.? "Yes," he murmured, a wisp of smoke trailing from his nostrils. "Let the work guide you..."

?- Mikayla -

Mikayla concentrated. Her mind hearing Angus but she was so focused she did not respond. However, she did feel the words of praise...encouragement moving through her spirit pushing her forward.?

She saw vivid color and felt keenly everything she was doing. She had one task. She had no intention of stopping until that task was completely. In fact, Mikayla was so focus on her task, she stood at the books for hours. Ignoring natural bodily necessities such as food or sleep and everything else.?

She didn’t know if Angus had stayed the whole time or if her had come and gone. She has no concept of seconds...minutes or hours...only the work...

Several hours laters. She stopped. Drained...looking up from the book she looked at the table and frowned. No tea cup. Nothing. Feeling dejected, Mikayla felt extremely tired. Moving to the tiny cot within the room, Mikayla has just enough energy to strip off her dress to her chemist before exhaustion took her under.?

Mikayla had no idea that down within the kitchen, appearing on the table was a mug, and fork/spoon combination large enough for The Dragon to take tea and eat in the civilized manner she saw that he wanted to.

Re: Port Vega: Done with the drama (Ireland, Mia)

(Mia)
Mia took a pause at the tone and Ireland's reactions.? "Are you sure you don't want to be alone.? You look pretty steamed, and well, I don't want to be on the other end of what ever it is."? She wondered what had gotten Ireland so worked up, figured it was probably Brandon as he had a way of doing that around here it seemed, but she wasn't going to ask.? "I mean, I would gladly come along if you want..."? She left it hanging.? She didn't want to get caught up in any drama.

Ireland

Ireland looked at Mia and blinked. Her insinuation that she was so immature that because?she was pissed at Brandon she would take her annoyance of him out on her was frankly a bit insulting.

Also Ireland didn’t like games. And Mia either was highly insecure or liked playing games because this was the second time she had asked the girl to hang out and it was the second time rather than just saying yes or no she did whatever she was doing now.

It was like the girl wanted everyone around her to kiss her ass or beg her to be friends or something. She had this whole aloof princess attitude that was really off putting. It now made sense to Ireland why the others didn’t connect with Mia. It was by Mia’s design.?

So rather than say anything and have Mia prove of herself right, Ireland simply shrugged nonchalantly and then said...politely. “it’s whatever you want to do Mia but I’m heading out.”?

ireland didn’t wait for an answer. She had already offered. So either Mia was coming or not. Ireland stepped back once and then?turned back towards the front doors and took a step to walk out.

[Sicilien]

Sicilien couldn't help himself.? When his lips alighted upon Etienne's, he felt his mind being consumed by with nothing else but her.? Her scent, her skin, her body - everything that he was all too familiar with but accepted never being able to touch again, to never be able to feel her by his side again.? Yet here she was, right in front him, body pressed against his, lips kissing back with as much passion as he was exuding in that moment.? And the way she just yielded to him, to his embrace, well, he almost didn't want to believe it was happening so he wanted to take full advantage of it.

When they finally separated, Sicilien was as much out of breath as his partner.? His desire for her clear as day, pressed against her as if his life depended on her.? Had they been in any other situation but now, he would've taken her right then and there.? But when he looked back at her, his gaze changed from one of longing to confused to flabbergasted when she suddenly pulled away from him, shoving him back and slapped him with some force.? Before he could even react, she yelled at him and then took off like the she-devil herself.? Though the smack stung, it was not unlike what he 'd experienced in the past.

"Oh no, no you don't.? You don't get to disappear like that again.? Never again, Rosalie!" he said through gritted teeth and took off after her, his long coat flapping in the wind.? It wasn't lost on him that Etienne was stubbornly running straight into the fray of animals that were slowly descending upon the town.? Whether she was blind to it or was purposefully doing it, he didn't care.? However, being taller and stronger, his strides longer, he managed to catch up to her and reached out, roughly grabbing her wrist and causing them both to slide to a halt, pulling her back in a way that forced her to face him.? Her angry look was not lost on him.

"What the hell do you think you're doing, you mad woman?? Do you not understand the situation we're all in?" he hissed at her, exasperated that she would pull this shit again.? He felt his hackles rise but he couldn't stay mad at her for long.? Now when he's finally laid eyes on her again after all this time, he never wanted to let her go out of his sight.? "Why are you running from me?? Don't lie and say you don't know who I am.? Not after the way you answered that kiss."

(Etienne)

His lips on hers felt so very nice. And god did she miss him. He had been her world. When she had to leave him...No. she would not do it. She would not let him pull her back in.?

When he pulled her to a stop and dragged her back along the wall of the jail hidden from the view of the gamut of creatures coming there way, she blinked. He had flustered her so she didn’t pay attention to what was in front of her...only fight or flight mode dominated her mind.

His question was one she didn’t want to answer and she considered lying...pretending that she wasn’t who she thought he was.

But his scolding caused her to look up and look around to see creaturevafter creature cresting the city proper. She frowned. They creatures seemed deliberate in their movements. While some kicked at the freshly dead flesh others skulked like they were searching... hunting.?

“This isn’t natural,” she said. “The bodies literally just fell dead. They haven’t begun to stink yet. No way these animals came here by smell.
And look at those coyotes.” she pointing to a pack of coyotes. ?”They aren't going after the flesh...they are hunting...and my guess is it’s for us.”

Just as she said the large pack split. Several coyotes went inside the hotel while the rest seem to track...them.

“We have to get to safety.” She said taking his hand and pulling him back to Chase. “Those animals are here for us. We have to take cover.” She said to Chase. “Do either of you have any bullets left.”

(Chase)

He ignored the fact that she was holding the? Sicilien's hand, he didn't ignore it completely.? It was hard to miss, the reaction, the kiss.? But he kept his attention focused on the scavenging?of the bodies as they didn't need the guns nor the bullets or the cash.? Chase had no idea if the cash would even be useful after this but just in case he made sure to get the hardware as bullets could always be useful.? He had plenty of gunbelts by the time the other two arrived.? "I have plenty why?"? He asked as he two noticed they weren't eating if anything they would bite and gnaw maybe but that was something other would do to make sure their quarry was dead!??

"Damn!"? He said allowed this was just constant, if it wasn't demons and other creatures try to keep them locked in then the natural animals were trying to keep them here.? They needed to get to the stable but the others were in the hotel and they needed to warn them without yelling and bring further attention to them.? He cocked his rifle and looked at those...stalking.? "We need to get to the hotel, the others are over there, the we need to get horse and get the hell out of here.? Something really is trying to keep us here now!"? He said hoping between their re-connection they got the gist of what he was saying.

(New Callie Carson)

? The redhead stood in the street in front of the sheriff's office and watched as some wolves descended onto the streets and set about devouring the fallen body of a deceased resident of Bendo. She aimed the rifle at the wolf and watched it for a moment. The beast looked up at her, made eye contact, then resumed eating the dead man.
? ?Callie lowered her weapon. "There should be horses in the livery. If the doors are still closed from last night the animals should be alright. These wolves, coyote and bear -- I don't think they're here for us. But I wouldn't test that theory. I say we take whatever horses and provisions we can get our hands on and we ride for Miller's Crossing. If we go to Cullenville then we'll never stop whatever this is. It will consume town after town. There has to be a way to defeat it..and if it is using magic to cause a storm, possess the bodies of townsfolk, then bring a herd of varmits into town to cleanup the dead, at some point its powers have to weaken. It has to rest. unless it is all powerful. Maybe we can make the ride to Miller's Crossing now. At least we have to try."?
? She looked around at the others...

(Flynn)

The pookah came up, leading the two horses he'd found and calmed down.? He handed the reins of the first horse to Callie.? "These'll do for you and me. Mount up."? Throwing his saddle bags over the pommel of his own horse, Flynn mounted up as well.? "The rest of you," he said loudly, glancing around at those still among the living, "get a horse and get ready to move.? This here train is leavin' for Miller's Crossing in one minute and anyone who ain' on is gonna get left behind.? I've got one trick left to try, but I need everyone here and close together to do it." ?

Flynn then turned back to Callie.? "I gotta concentrate pretty heavy to do this, so I'd appreciate it if'n you could keep anything with teeth 'n claws off of me till it's done."? With that, the pookah closed his eyes and began to chant in the low strange voice he'd used earlier to calm the horses.? A shimmer of green formed in the air around him, then began to expand slowly outward, covering first him, then his horse, and then Callie and her horse, and continuing to grow until is covered an area big enough to encompass the entire party... if they managed to get inside it in time.

No Bottom

Part 4??? Desired? continuation

After what seemed like an incalculable amount of time the van came to a stop. She could hear him exit. There was a few minutes of silence then she heard something at the back door.

It opened and Reggie stood looking down at her with a grim smile on his face.?

“Hey Angel. I’ll get you all set up.”

He undid something that had her legs locked down. Then he pulled her out of the van and settled her into a wheelchair.?

“Home sweet home,” he said cheerfully. She couldn’t answer with the gag in place.

There were lots of trees everywhere she looked. A two-story house was close by. He began to wheel her in that direction. He guided her inside the lower portion of the house through a door that looked like it was made out of steel.?

Reggie flipped on an overhead light, and she could see it was made up as a large bedroom. A large bed, a bedside table, a few lamps and a large TV that sat on a long low chest of drawers.

“I know this is going to take some time but be a good girl for me today, okay?”

He lifted her onto the bed. He then attached a heavy looking clasp onto her right ankle. It was tight but lined in a velvet-like cloth that didn’t feel too bad against her skin. A cable was linked to the clasp. It ran to a center support post that went from floor to ceiling and looked to be made of iron. The cable was covered in plastic. It looked like the kind one might use to tie down a dog in the backyard.?

“I’m going to take off the gag. Please don’t scream. We are out in the country with no one for miles.”

He cut off the gag then cut off the plastic ties on her wrists and on her ankles. She was free, not counting the long leash attached to the load bearing post.

As soon as the gag was removed Valerie didn’t in fact start screaming. Perhaps it didn’t help, but honestly, she didn’t care. None of this made sense. Reggie was her husband’s friend. He was one of the good guys. What had he taken her here? It didn’t make sense. None of it.?

She kept on screaming, physically crawling away from him as far as she possibly could. “Why are you doing this? I don’t get it. Get away from me,” The words came out all jumbled. Tears running down her face.?

What was this place? It seemed so calculated. Almost as if he had it all planned out. This room, this house. No, right? This was a mistake? Had to be. Some misplaced joke.?

“This isn’t funny Reggie. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with you, but you need to let me go. If Brian finds out about this, he’ll kill you.” God what if … what if he had hurt …. No, she couldn’t think like that. All he had to do was let her go.?

“Let me go, I can’t stay here. The kids will be worried. You know them Reggie, you know me. I don’t know what is going on but please just let me go.?

Reggie rushed to her, took a handful of her hair and brutally slapped her hard across her cheek.?

“Shut up! You are mine. I don’t want to hear about kids or Brian ever again. You will regret it and so will they.” He let the implied threat hang in the air.

“Now you have no choice but to love the only man who has loved you. We will be happy together.”

He was delusional… had to be. What was all this talk about loving her. Deep down Val had suspected that perhaps there had been more at play than mere friendly interest. Women usually could tell. Reggie had always been a bit overly polite and charming when it came to their interactions. But that had been it. Brian was his friend. They had known each other for years and now all of this??

The slap caught her off guard. The brutality of that simple act, shocking her. It was a wake up call without a doubt. He wasn’t fooling around. This was not some sick game. He would hurt her if need be, would hurt her family, her children.?

That simple realisation made her come down. There was no playing around, no room for games now. She needed to get out of here, as soon as possible.?

A comfortable chair sat in a far corner. He went and sat down. Remotes lay on a side table. He grabbed one and turned on the TV. After flipping through the channels he settled on one that was showing some current news broadcast.

“...Thank you Mayor,” said Brian’s Captain. “If you have any questions my two Detectives Sam Enos and Brian Perry are on the case would be happy to answer.?

Brian and Sam stepped up to the podium.

A reporter from the local TV station got the first question. “When do you think the killer will strike again?”

Reggie started to laugh. “That is not your husband. If you defy me I will kill everyone you love, everyone you have ever known.” He chuckled to himself.?

Eventually he left the room through another solid looking door. She thought she could hear him going up some stairs. The sound was muted. Then it was very quiet.

On the TV Brian looked right into the camera and spoke. “Be alert, we will get this perpetrator. We will need your help.”

Several other questions came for the two Detectives but they declined to give anymore details. The new conference finished up and the image reverted to a commercial for facial cream.

Seeing Brian’s face on the screen nearly unhinged her. It was just so hard, seeing him right there. This was the man she loved, the man she would trust with her life. He would come. He would help her. There was no doubt in her mind about that. But seeing him like that. Over there on that screen. It made tears dwell in her eyes. Val just loved him so much. She would do whatever she needed to do in order to get out of here. Get back to him.?

He came back too soon though. Not giving her time to figure out a plan of attack. Find some sort of weapon to protect herself with. Val you need to be smart here girl. You can do this. Stay calm. Not think of everything that can go wrong. Just focus on getting out.?

Reggie suddenly appeared in the doorframe. Beer in hand he glared at Val. Then he took a seat and changed the channel.?

“I guess you are not yet news worthy,” he said. Then he put on a movie and opened his beer.

“You are delusional. Do you really think you can get away with this?” Valerie couldn’t help but throw out. Her face was hurting, she was scared and cold, but most of all she was just angry. Furious even.?

“Who the fuck do you think you are anyway? You don’t think he is going to find me Reggie? He’s your friend. You know him. Brian won’t stop at anything to find me and when he does he will fucking end you.” Her husband was a lot of things but most of all he was determined.?

“Look I don’t what you are playing at but we are not playing happy house here. I’m not going to give in to whatever sick fantasy you might have. So just let me go,” Valerie demanded again as she was pulling and pushing to get the chain off “Let me go right now.”?

Reggie sighed. “I thought you would understand what a mistake you made. I don’t think you know what I’m willing to do.”?

He left for a couple minutes then came back in. He wore a pair of surgical gloves and carried a syringe with a long wicked looking needle.

“I wanted this to be amicable.” He pulled out a taser and held it up so she could see it.?

“We can have some fun or I can have some fun. Which way do you want it Valerie?”

He rushed her like a bull. The taser caught her on the lower leg. Like the last time she could do little but experience the pain of a thousand needles shooting through her body. As she slowly came out of the paralyzation effect another pain came from an injection on her arm.

The Ketamine injection worked quickly. Val felt suddenly woozy. Her body felt light and she could barely move her arms or legs. She watched detached as Reggie began undressing her.

“This could have been mutual. I don’t mind doing it this way,” he said.

She struggled as he tore away her underwear. Suddenly his hands were around her neck and squeezing hard.??

“Don’t make me,” he whispered. “I love you Valerie. Don’t make me kill you too.”

This wasn’t happening. It couldn’t be. She tried to fight, tried to resist, but he was fast. Knocking her out. The taser, then the injection… drugs, had to be. No matter how hard Val tried to resist, tried to get away, it was useless. There wasn’t anything she could do. Just lie there as he started to undress her.?

“No please, Reggie, you don’t have to do this, please don’t.” Even though there wasn’t anything she could. Valerie still felt it all. His hands on her body, his mouth against her skin. His breath. It made her sick to her stomach, made her want to throw up.?

“You can still let me go. I won’t say anything.” Desperate plea. He wouldn’t just let her go but if he did this Val knew that there was no more going back. Then he’d eventually kill her. If he wouldn’t already …?

His hands around her throat… suffocating her …. Squeezing the life out of her. No, she had to live, for the kids, for Brian, for ….?

“Regg… ple..ase … do.. Please.. . I’m … baby… I’m pregnant… “

The two Agents at Bayside gave up their duty at 6. James and Riley spoke with them for a couple of minutes.

“We have very little to report,'' the senior detective said to the pair. A super yacht owned by Winsley Wells parked further out around 1 in the afternoon. We identified Wells but there was another man that was travelling with them we could not identify.”

“Did you get a photo?”

“No, we were watching the target, not bystanders.”

“Interesting, well good night Ladies see you in the A.M.”

The junior agent behind the wheel pulled out of the parking lot. “Dinner?”

“Yeah, let’s cruise the upper crust dinners on Bourbon Street.”

“You looking for blue eyes?”

“Of course. He might know something.”

“Okay, sure.”

Nate walked back into AJ’s after a good walk. He’d felt some exotics along the way, Were’s likely, not many, it was still light out. Later the Vamps would swoop in like vultures.

He crossed to the stage. The band was up and running without him. A soulful saxophone crooning to the growing crowd. Nate plugged in. Softly he started to blend with the jam.

___________________________________________________

“Shit, just spotted him,” The junior said. She pulled over and made a space out of thin air.

The senior detective followed her gaze. “See him. Going into that lounge. I’m going to tag him. You want to come? We can get some nuts and coffee or something.”

“Pass, I’ll see you at the Hotel later, maybe.”

____________________________________________________

A skinny guy who couldn’t fill his tiny jeans noticed the cop. It was instinctual. She was young, short brown hair, maybe in her late twenties in a gray suit. The wide flair of the jacket meant she was packing, likely. He fiddled with his glass and kept his eyes on her.

A waitress came to her table. “Can I get you something honey?”

“You got food here,” she asked.

“We haz got all kinds.” The waitress handed her a menu. “I’m Hazel, you need some time honey?”

“No,” she pointed at the menu. Hazel squinted in the half dark of the lounge.

“Got ya. Drink?”

“Soda, Dr. Pepper?”

“Be right back.”

The agent turned to the music. It was brilliant, fresh and invigorating. There he was, still in that white jacket. Didn’t he get hot in that outfit? She watched him play. He was the only white guy on the stage but you couldn’t tell by how the rest of the musicians were smiling and getting on with his strumming.

Nathan took a break after an uncounted number of sets. He introduced himself and shook hands with all the other musicians. Johnny on drums, Slick on the horn, Tubby on the Sax along with Chester who could play the bass sometimes to change things up. Happy as he could ever be Nate headed for the bar.

“Same,” he said. “Are you Clarence?”

“Every day,” Clarence said.

The crowd was much bigger now. Nathan turned to look over the spectators. He noted through the open doors the darkness of evening. Like clockwork a Vamp entered. She was head to foot dressed in a shimmering tight dress that caught what light there was and tossed it back in various directions. All her angles were in the right places. The tourists gawked and the wives handed out juicy elbows in response.

Nathan had to chuckle. Drink in hand he thought about going back on stage. A gnawing suspicion kept him rooted at the bar. A tickle on the back of his neck was foreboding. Someone was watching him. He let his gaze sweep lazily around the room. Then he noticed the Fed. He chuckled again.

Re: The Door Between Two Worlds [Roue and Rabbit] (closed)

(Rabbit)

"I wasn' l-lookin' to get embraced," Rabbit said, fidgeting awkwardly on his stool.? "It... it just kinda, you know, happened one night.? I don' really remember m-much about it.? I just got picked up by the wrong guy and the next thing I know, I'm w-wakin' up in a place I don' know with a guy I never met before.? He's the one who, uhm, told me 'bout what had happened and what I'd been turned into."? The little vampire smiled wistfully.? "He was kinda nice, actually.? I still miss him sometimes."

"You got caught foolin' around... with another guy?" Rabbit ventured, looking curious.? "Yeah. M-me too. I ended up havin' to run away from home 'cause of it.? You know.? Small t-town, real religious.? They kept t-tryin' to, you know, cure me.? Lots of prayin' and lots of b-beatin's. So I ran off to the city.? Just one more gay street kid, survivin' by the three P's."? At Roue's blank look, he shrugged, looking down as he added "You know.? Panhandlin', petty theft and p-peddlin' my ass."

"Sounds like you might've had it worse, though," he went on, his eyes meeting Roue's with sympathy.? "Nobody tried to m-marry me off, and nobody came lookin' for me. And nobody was tryin' to k-kill me neither." His young faced scrunched up a bit as he amended his words.? "Leastwise, not for, uhm, you know, just bein' gay.? My biggest problem was mostly just some crazy Torries who kept tryin' to dress me up like a g-girl."

"Oh. You don' gotta worry about anyone breakin' down any of the doors into this place," the little vampire said, perking up a bit.? The magic that created the Dionysus is _really_ s-strong. That, and the doors tend to appear and then disappear, 'lessen someone's actually usin' them." He giggled at the thought.? "The most that'd happen would be if they broke through the wall where the door appeared and got into the building on the other side of that wall.? They definitely wouldn' show up here."

Rabbit could tell from the elf's body language and hesitancy that something was troubling him.? "Uhm, are you, uhm, you know, okay?" he asked, biting his lip anxiously.? "You ain' mad 'cause we had s-sex or nothin', are you?? I mean, I know I kinda, you know, t-took advantage of you by, uhm, feedin' on you without askin'.? And I'm s-sorry 'bout that.? It's just... you got me so, you know, w-worked up.? You were so nice 'n warm 'n s-sexy, and it felt so good when you were f-fuckin' me.? U just couldn' resist." The little vampire looked like he'd be blushing if he still could as he reached over and touched Roue's fingers with his own.? "I p-promise I won' do it again.? N-not 'lessen you, uhm, you know, w-want me to."

[Roue]

"Embraced?" Roue echoed, catching onto the way Rabbit described the experience.? He must have meant becoming a vampire, though he's never heard of that term being used in that manner before.? Of course, he's also never met a vampire before nor even knew of their existence so what could he expect, really?? The elf continued intently listening to the shorter youth talking about his own situation and what him to where he was today.? Though once Rabbit talked about the three P's, he first looked confused but then couldn't help but chuckle a bit, hiding his mouth behind his hand.? It was still a bit strange to hear such frankness out of his young host, though he had to remind himself that it was just Roue who was raised in a stuffy, high society.

"Please excuse my laugh...the way you described it was a bit funny, though I know the situation itself was not," he replied, bowing his head apologetically.? "I'm really glad that I am safe here, if at least for the moment.? To be honest, I can't remember the last time I felt safe anywhere, really.? But when you've been on the run for so long, that feeling doesn't really leave you, does it?? At least, not right away..."? The elf sighed, looking perhaps a bit too crestfallen than he wanted to be, because Rabbit suddenly reached for him, their fingers brushing together.? For some reason, that startled him, but instead of pulling away, he moved closer, taking Rabbit's hand into his own and pleated their fingers together.

"Don't be sorry, Rabbit...you've done nothing wrong, and who's taken advantage of whom?? I was afraid that I may have hurt you in my drunken stupor," Roue said, pulling Rabbit closer as he brought the vampire's hand to his lips and gently kissed it, his touch lingering a bit more before he moved it to his cheek, pressing the back of Rabbit's hand against his skin, letting him feel the warmth.? The elf let his eyelids falter, letting the other's coolness seep in through his pores, quite enjoying the mix of temperatures, never having had this kind of sensation before.? It was fascinating, like fire and ice mixing together.? "I do hope my own behavior hasn't given you cause for concern...I'm quite harmless, really...unless you get me drunk again...then, no holds barred there..."? He laughed a bit at that part, looking back at Rabbit, hoping that what he said came across as a joke.

[Kites]

"Th-thank you," he answered the lady, awkwardly standing off to the side as he waited to be let in.? He didn't know how much time had passed, which felt like forever and a day, but finally he was told that he was free to proceed, so he stepped forward as the door slid open and then closed behind him with a soft "whoosh."? Inside was Chord, the man that had first recruited him into the folds of his company, who had just previously took on a more serious tone and told them exactly what he thought of their failure, no holds barred, now appeared to be quite friendly and unassuming.? Nervous was putting it mildly.

"Hello, sir...thank you for letting me come in," he started, taking a short bow much like he did with Raine.? When he looked back, Chord was still smiling at him.? "I wanted to talk to you about what happened, now that I've had a little bit of time to think about it."? Putting his hands behind his back, he let out a sigh, to try and calm himself, diverting his eyes.

"I..may have been too rash with what I said back at the classroom.? Having realized that we all failed and the frustration that came with it, and the flurry of emotions that came after, I think, made some of us regret our actions.? I know I certainly have..it's just..it's just that.."? Kites breathed out, willing his heart to stop trying to break through his rib cage.? Come on, man, remember what Raine said.? Be confident, tell it like it is.? Can't really fail any more than you already have, right?

"When you first recruited me, I was very eager to prove myself.? I still am, but what I wasn't prepared for was this onslaught of both logic and emotion.? Never have I had someone affect me so much that it's muddled my brain, stirred up my heart and made me act like a love sick...like a love sick puppy," he said, biting his lip.? "I mean, it's not Gen's fault at all...I hope you don't hold that against him...what I'm trying to say is..."? Steeling his resolve, he looked back up, straight into Chord's eyes, trying to summon up whatever bit of courage he had in that moment.

"What I'm trying to say is that I want to do better, sir.? I came to Port Vega for a reason.? To find myself, to prove that I was worthy of existing, to find that inner strength to protect those who could not do so...? You've given me that chance and instead of taking it seriously, I decided to chase someone else's tail and completely disrespected what you were trying to achieve.? For that, I take full responsibility...and whatever may come with it, but..? But, I don't want to give up here!? If I just accept this outcome and not fight for what could be, then I would not only be letting myself down, I feel that I would be letting you down even more than I already have."

"Please, don't give up on me yet, sir.? I want to stay...I want to keep working towards that goal and prove to you that I'm worth my salt.? If you are willing to give me that second chance, I promise that I would not let you down, sir."

Once finished, he breathed out again, letting off steam and all the nervousness that ensued.? He bowed again at the waist, having said everything that he wanted to say and waited to hear what Chord thought about it all.? The wait felt excruciating to him, but he made no indication that he was antsy...at least, he hoped.

Delta Blues (Nathan Demat) Fresh off the boat

??? It had been a long day, and as Mary Dunn locked the doors of her shop, Charming Conundrums, she let out a deep sigh. It had been oppressively hot the past few days, but now a cool breeze was blowing in off the gulf, dispelling the funk that had enveloped the French Quarter.

??? She made her way out onto Bourbon street, mingling with the crowds. Her raven hair glistened slightly in the streetlights, her long skirts swished as she walked. Mary meandered her way down the street to AJ’s lounge, watching the ebb and flow of foot traffic. Finding a spot at the end of the bar at AJ’s she leaned over to the bartender and announced, “bless me, parson.”

??? A broad, winter white smile crossed the man’s dark face. “Mary Dunn. Been a while since you darkened my barstools, where you been, woman?” He poured three fingers of Irish whiskey into a glass and passed it to her.”

??? “Here and there, Clarence,” she replied, taking a sip of the smooth liquor. “Been working, getting some new spells and charms ready in the shop, spending time with my man, the usual.”

??? Clarence leaned back, raised an eyebrow slightly, and replied, “an’ yet here you are, without the man. So, how’s it going with the cop? Everything okay?”

??? Mary chuckled. “It is what it is, Clarence. He’s got his teeth into a new case, gruesome one though he can’t share much. It’s just me an’ Knuckles tonight.” She nodded towards the stage, “who’s playing with Chester tonight? He’s not bad.” She dropped a ten on the bar, making a motion for Clarence to keep the change.

??? “Fella just strolled in off the street,” Clarence replied as he turned to watch the musicians. “Chester seems to know him, so he’s cool. Play’s good too.” He tapped the bar twice as he picked up the ten and winked, then went to the other end of the bar to handle another customer.

??? Mary fondled the three human finger bones in her pocket, causing them to rattle. “What do you think, Knuckles?” she whispered.

??? “Not bad,” a disembodied voice whispered back, “I could do better, once upon a time.”

??? Mary just chuckled softly at the spirit, leaned back, and let the music wash over her.

She winked as Bonnie left. That woman was a character and she was sure she would need her help if she was going to pull this off.

She nodded at Lady Kir. “Yes I heard Mr. Merriweather. What would like my help doing. If you felt spirit energy on me they could be from anyone here. I did travel far and wide trying to find you when the Captain asked me. Do we know what spirit we are looking for exactly?” She asked. “And what is exactly is the plan when we find it?”

<John Merriweather>

"Well," John replied, "that's why we need your help so badly, Sara dear. You see, I've only encountered this entity while it was being used by another. I would probably recognise it's signature traits, but perhaps not. It would be a powerful entity, more powerful than a simple spirit or aparition. Even a spirit as powerful as yourself would pale in comparison."

"As far as a plan, well, I figure we'll have to 'wing it'. Perhaps speak with the entity, if it is able, and discover what binds it here. Then we can discover a way to free the poor thing, can't we?"

Bonnie tottered from the kitchen with four bowls, spoons, and a breadboard with a loaf of dark rye bread on it. "'Ere it tis, chowder's up!" she called cheerfully as she slapped the bowls down in front of everyone. She carefully wiped each spoon clean on her filthy apron, placing one next to each bowl, then cut the bread into thick slices. "Gwan, eat up," she encouraged as she sat down with them.

-Kir-

? ?Kir listened as Sara and John talked. She was still amazed at how different this was compared to how things were when she was, well in her body. Colors seemed brighter yet others were more washed out. There was food and drink and the biggest difference was magic. They way she viewed it and the way it felt to her. She was very unsure what would happen if and when she had to use it. Would it work how she wanted it to.?
? ?Her attention turned to Bonnie when she came back with the soup. It smelled delicious. "Thank you Bonnie. It smells delightful, and the bread mmm. This looks really good." She picks up the spoon and takes a bite. "Bonnie, this is the best chowder I have ever had."?
? ?She looks to Sara as she eats. "Sara, what would you do to help an entity that might be trapped and forced to do a master's bidding for evil."?

Delta Blues (Romy Livingstom, Kaomin MacDonald)

<Kaomin>
?
? ? As he held out his hand to shake his new partner’s Kaomin said, “my apologies for the disappointment. I’m assuming you’ve been briefed on me, so I’ll spare you the gory details.” She was young for a detective, and easy on the eyes at least. Kaomin figured it could have been worse, they could have saddled him with a moronic lout like Brewster. Livingston seemed at the very worst inexperienced, but somewhat intelligent, and she moved with a grace that screamed ‘werecreature’. He decided that he could work with her, at least for a few days.
?
? ? “This here,” Kaomin continued, turning his attention to the scene, “was the site of a rather nasty gang fight last night. When they were collecting evidence, our very good friends at S.I.-one found an extra corpse. Seems he had been dead a few extra hours, possibly a day, and exsanguinated.” He winked, “that means he didn’t have a drop of blood in him, which is when they called in S.I.-two, that’s us, the vampire hunters.”
?
? ? Offering a slight grimace Kaomin added, “oh, and whoever did it stole his family jewels as well. We’ll have to check in with the coroner next to see exactly what bits are missing.”
?
? ? He scanned the area again and then passed Romy the file. “I was hoping to gather some evidence, but the whole crime scene’s been compromised by both the gang bangers and the investigators this morning. All we got’s in that file, and on the body. There’s a coffee shop on the next block, how about we give you a few minutes to read that out of the heat?”
?
<Romy>
?
? ? “I know what exsanguinated means,” Romy nodded, making a mental note of her surroundings. “I also reeks of death down here and I’m not talking about the actual victims.” You would think that the scent vampires left would be metaly, the copper taste you got in your mouth. It was quite the opposite in real life. They smelled sweet, almost vanilla like but in the most putrid way possible.?
?
? ? “The part about them taking the genitals does raise questions though. Means it’s either sexual or personal. Have there been any other cases in the past? Something similar?” That possibly could give them something to work with. Robberies or hate crimes didn’t usually end up like this. Possible revenge? Do we know who the victim without his fun bits is? We have a name yet. Again that would be a possible lead.?
?
? ? “Coffee sounds good. You are buying right? I mean seeing as I’m the new girl on the block.” That was met with a wink. “New partner and all.” Speaking off Romy was rather hungry as well, shifters usually were.?
?
<Kaomin>
?
? ? “Reeks of death exactly how?” Kaomin asked with a raised eyebrow. Sniffing the air himself he could only pick out rotting garbage, stagnant water, some sort of diesel fuel, and maybe motor oil.
?
? ? “I hadn’t considered a personal motive,” he admitted, “you mean like taking his ‘mojo’, his power from him? Like a subordinate?” The detective scratched his chin. “Might be a good thought, if he was well hung... or rich. Unfortunately we don’t have that bit to work with, do we? We’ll know more when we visit the coroner, first let's get you up to speed.”
?
? ? He glanced at Romy. “The first cups on me, but don’t get used to it.”

?(Callum)

Callum was silent for a moment.? "You can view it safely enough from the outside, I think. But I would'na advise going into it, especially not by yourself.? It is a fell, ill-omened place, a taint that casts an evil shadow over the entire estate." ?

He seemed relieved when Scheherezade turned her attention to the ruins he'd suggested.? The touch of her arm on his, while immensely pleasing, was still strange.? A puzzlement. His only thought was that it was yet another sign that his beloved Arowyn had somehow returned to him in the body of this American, and it was because of that that he could touch her and she him.

"It was a different place, then," Callum went on as they resumed walking.? "The castle was the center of life in the county, both economic life and social life. As a result, many social gatherings were held here, making the castle hum with life."? It was only a short walk to where the ruins lay next to the noisy little stream that ran across the estate.? "And as I said, this place was a favorite for young courting couples to sneak away to, out of sight of their elders but close enough to hear if someone was calling for them.? Ah've often wondered how many betrothals were cemented here." He grinned impishly as he added "And how many first-borns were conceived here as a result."

?- Scheherezade -

As she walked Scheherazade thought? It still seemed odd to her that everyone was stressing just how much she should stay away from the tower. She didn’t want to be one of those folks but she was definitely curious. That would be something she would have to consider another time because the beauty and majesty of where they now stood was captivating.

“It’s beautiful. I could see why two lovers could be seduced by the simply beauty of the spot.” She said stepping away from him to begin to explore the sight. As she did, she closed her eyes and it was as if she was transported back to such a time.

Keira gave the girl a smile.? "Before that, do you trust me enough to tell me your name, now?" She asked.

Maggy

Maggy cocked her head to the side “yeah I’m sure you will cause you seem like one bad ass chick.” She said with a smirk and a nodded. “My name is Maggy. So what’s this about a job?”

Serena had a feeling the girl wasn't telling her the entire truth, but since they had just met she wasn't going to push for answers.? "Ah, well, enjoy your shower.? And we have set up the guest room across the hall from yours for the rest of your, family, to be in.? Your's and Draven's room is the second door on the left after you turn right at the top of the stairs."? She waited until Anais responded before turning away to let the staff know to put the refreshments away as the new arrivals decided to not partake.

(Draven)
After draining the rabbit, Draven dug a hole and buried it.? He knew that some other creature would eventually find it and dispose of it.? He left the area and walked to a nearby clearing.? He laid down in the soft grass and looked up at the stars.? He wondered what she truly wanted from their exchange.? It was their first disagreement.? He sighed and listened to the crickets in tall grasses around the clearings edges.? He wanted to give them both time to calm down before returning to the mansion.

Anais

Anais gave a smile that did not quite reach her eyes. “Thank you.”?

With that she continued up the stairs towards her room. Suddenly she felt alone and like an outside her. That she had crossed a line...is that how he wanted her to feel... for daring to call out his behavior.?

Lady Serena seemed nice enough...but after what she had just seen...Anais sighed. She would be happy when her family got here.

Stepping into her room she immediately began to strip. Dropping clothing and shoes along the way. Anais stepped into the shower turning the water on all hot, letting the heat take away her aches.

Delta Blues -? Fresh off the boat

Two pairs of binoculars peaked out from inside the dark sedan.

“You don’t think they are going to make the exchange in broad daylight?” The driver said. The voice was female.

“Possibly, That’s why we are here.” The passenger said, her tone soothing and calm.

They continued to scan the boat dock and in particular a rather large cruiser sitting by itself.

There was some movement on board. A crew member walked around the crow’s nest polishing the chrome.

“God, this is boring,” said the driver.

“Got something,” the passenger said.

“奥丑补迟?”

“About a mile out coming in fast. A couple points off to the west.”

“That thing is huge!”

“Right. One of the biggest.”

“It’s slowing down. I can see someone on the prow. It looks like a triple decker.”

They both watched, slacked jawed as the mammoth vessel slowed. It turned to line up with a leeward dock.

“200 footer I’d guess,” the passenger said.

The driver brought up a camera with a large lens and took a few pictures. She fiddled with the back panel for a minute then put it back down on the seat.

“I’ll shoot off a picture. We should know what it is and who owns her quickly enough.”

Several men ran out to meet the yacht. They took in the lines and tied it down securely. The man they’d seen before disappeared inside.

“Some tech tycoon I’ll bet you,” the passenger said.

There was no movement on their target vessel. The new one showed plenty. Several people were gathering at the boarding ramp. They began exiting the monster and walking toward the shore and the parking lot.

A bus that had been stationed near the street fired up and moved close to the dock. “Sheraton Hotel” it read on the side.

The majority of people were young women in all manner of fancy sportswear, bikini, or a mix of both.

“Two men and seven women?” The drive scoffed. “Not very even.”

One man appeared to be saying goodbye to the rest of the group. They piled into the bus while the loner walked steadily into the parking lot directly at their position.

“This guy make us?” The driver asked.

“Not possible, light brown hair, blue-eyed about six feet tall. Wearing a white sports jacket and white slacks,” she said aloud. “What’s that he is carrying?”

“It’s a guitar case.”

The man passed close by then paused and came back to the driver side window.

The driver rolled down her window, “Yes, can I help you?”

The man smiled, bent slightly to get a look at the passenger. “Just checking out the view.”

He pulled out a pair of sunglasses, nodded to them both then walked off.

“Eccentric asshole,” The driver said.

“Cute as hell too,” said the passenger.

AJ’s lounge was dark and smoky. Someone played a riff on the piano. It was early and the crowd was light and scattered around the large room. A long bar made a circle near the back and several patrons were gathered there gabbing and drinking.

The man with the guitar case moved up to the stage, found an amp plug and sat down in the nearest chair. The piano player, an older fellow with teeth that shone with a sparkle nodded at him.

After a minute of adjustment and some fiddling with the refinement of sound the new stranger began to riff off the piano player. The new addition of sound broke the lassitude of the crowd, and they looked to the stage with renewed interest.

Chords and rhythms mixed together the piano taking charge then settling back as the electric guitar found the forefront. They played hard then soft for some time each taking a little break for a minute while the other began a new line and then off they went exploring the possibilities.

Forty-five minutes in they finished the bit with a flourish. The crowd, suddenly energized by the amazing sound applauded approvingly.

The stranger rose and shook the hand of the piano player.

“Nathan Demat at your service.”

“Anthony Carter,” the piano player said back.

“Everyone calls me Chester.”

“Well Chester you can call me Nate.”

“I do remember you son,” Chester said. “You were here last year at Mardi Gras.”

“Yes I was. Played with you all night if I remember correctly. That was fun.”

“It sure was. Hey, you gonna to play with us tonight?”

“I’ve been planning on it.”

“Excellent, excellent,” Chester said.

“I’m going to get a drink. You need anything Chester?”

“A seltzer would be mighty fine.”

“You got it.”

Later with the band taking a break Nate stepped out onto Bourbon Street. He walked with the crowd a cigarette in one hand. He’d been to this place many times. Nathan felt at home here. If things went well he might just stay for a while.

Cat and Scott

No Bottom

Part 4??? Desired

Val liked to stay active. If she couldn’t run, then she usually went for a swim. She could have stayed in school but there was a lot going on, and she liked to clear her head some, try to deal with it in her own way.

Hearing Brian’s voice had helped. This was the job he had signed up for, and she had chosen to marry him. It wasn’t always easy but it was what it was. He had her support no matter what, even if it did in fact mean more sleepless nights.

“Have you checked in the drawer on the left side of my desk?” She questioned, hair still dripping wet. Juggling her phone in one hand and the rest of her things in the other? “It should be there Lisa. I put it in right before I went on my break.” The trip to her car wasn’t that long but the fact that they were already calling her, did make her feel rather antsy.

“Look, I’m going to hang up now. I should be at school in 10 minutes or so. I’ll meet you there,” she then added, ending the call, so she could put her cell phone back in her bag and fish out the keys. Of course this was the kinda day where nothing went according to plan and instead she just dropped it all. The bag, the keys.

“骋辞诲诲补尘尘颈迟.”

“Valerie? Val Perry?” The voice was close and would have startled her more than it did because the voice was instantly recognizable.

She looked up. “Reggie?”

He took a couple steps closer, bent down, picked up her purse and handed it to her.

“Hey,” he said, a broad grin on his face. “Bad day?”

“Not really, just life in general,” Val replied as she threw Reggie a grateful smile. “Thanks for that. I’m just trying to juggle it all and failing miserably at it.” Reggie was an old friend/ co-worker of Brian. They went back a long way and while she didn’t necessarily like the man he had always been nothing but polite and helpful to her. Just like he was now.

“I’m off today. Still got that private security gig. It pays the bills. Anyway, you look great. How are the kids and Brian. I haven’t spoken to him since New Years. Time flies.”

“Time really does fly but Brian and the kids are great. Getting bigger. You should stop by some time. I bet he would love to see you.” Val then offered. It was the polite thing to do and Brian was always so busy. A night away from it all was exactly what the doctor had prescribed.” Perhaps you should come over sometime. Have a bite to eat? I’ll even cook.”

“I hear that. Well, I’ll let you go. Good to see you again.” Reggie scanned the parking lot while he spoke.

As Val moved to climb into her car a sharp paralyzing pain shot through her body. She looked up at the sky from the pavement. She couldn’t speak or move. Reggie looked down at her. Then he placed a soft cloth over her mouth.

The movements of the vehicle woke her up. She rolled a foot and bumped into something hard. She couldn’t see anything. A cloth in her mouth made it hard to breathe. Her arms were bound behind her. Her legs were bound to something unmovable.

The van she guessed made a sharp turn then seemed to accelerate to freeway speeds.

There were like a million things you could do in a situation like this. At least according to the movies, the TV shows, the adds … but when it truly happened to you, there was no time to act, no time to think. Val had taken a few self-defense classes when she was younger. With a cop as a husband, safety could quickly become an issue. She had been good at it too and it had been fun, yet as it turned out, completely useless as well.

There was a tap on the shoulder, a sharp pain and before Val knew it, the world around her exploded in a haze of red and black. Nothing seemed to make sense anymore, just this overwhelming sense of panic, the knowledge that something bad was happening, that everything she had ever seen, had read about in the paper was real and that it was happening to her.

The panic was real, the fear and while part of her wanted to struggle, the other part just wanted to cry. Her entire face felt like it was on fire, limbs feeling weak and heavy. She wanted to talk, wanted to scream, but she couldn’t. The world was nothing but a haze and while instinct kicked, urging her to move there was also the rational part of her brain that was trying to assess the situation.

She needed to be smart about this, needed to find a way out. There were two options here. To stay quiet and go to his intended destination and who knew what would happen once they got there. She would be lost, with no way to go, nowhere to run. If she made her escape now? What did she really have to lose?

Why was he doing this? Reggie was Brian’s friend. This didn’t make sense. Why would he hurt her like this. Kidnap her? God the kids. They would be so scared . Brian. He already had so much on his plate.

She couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t do anything but lie there.

This had to be a dream. She would wake up soon. Be back in Brian’s arms. This wasn’t happening. This wasn’t real. It couldn’t be.

She would bide her time. Wait. Wait until he didn’t pay attention, and then she’d run. That’s what she would do.

God, why was this happening?

Elusive Capture: Beaches. Andrew/Evone’

?
?(Andrew)

"Gladly, my love," Andrew said, kissing her back and holding her close. "And know that, when all of this is over, I want you with me, wherever fortune takes us."

The captain of the Elusive stepped back a bit and removed his jacket, which he proceeded to spread out with great show on the sand.? He then made a grand bow and gestured to the garment, smiling in spite of his effort to make it a solemn occasion.? "Our bed awaits, my lady."

Andrew then stepped up close once again, gazing into her eyes as his fingers began unbuttoning the sailor's shirt she'd been given, lingering the moment her breasts were freed to the open air. He began gently kissing his way down, first along her neck, then her collarbone, and then each perfect breast in turn. Rising up again, he closed his mouth over hers as he slipped her shirt down and then off, letting it fall to the ground next to his jacket, quickly followed by his own. His hands moved to caress and explore the smooth warm skin of her back, pulling her closer still and pressing her now-bare chest to his, a low moan of pleasure passing from his mouth into hers.? Below, the bulge of his aroused manhood was pressing hard against her through the sailor's pants she was wearing, urgent with need.? Pulling his head back just slightly, his eyes met hers once again as he rubbed his covered sex tentatively against hers as if testing the waters, looking for any last sign of hesitation before giving in to their desires.

- Evone' -

Evone’ blushes at his words. She felt so shy...awkward. She trembled under his touch as he began to undress her. Her blue eyes meeting his but not.

His touch felt so good. His mouth on her skin so nice...so right. His caresses...being in his arms right now...

This would be the their first time since...everything and all the confidence she had when she uttered the words left her as soon as he began to touch. Take things further. She was...scared. What if she disappointed him. What if this wasn’t good for him. What if this wasn’t good for her.?

She felt his body against hers...and it felt so good. She missed him so much... all she wanted was to be in his arms cocoon by his strength...his love..but was she ready for this??

She could tell he missed her too...and he wanted this. Besides?if she stopped him now would he hate her? She didn’t want him to hate her. Not after all he did for her...all he said to her...she owed him this. But could she really do this...Now...after...

No, she had to keep going. She?couldn’t very well stop.?After all she was the one who initiated it. And she didn’t want him to hate her. She couldn’t bare it if he hated her. Or if he never touched her or kissed her again.?

She had to keep going. She didn’t have a choice.?

Evone reach up on top toes and softly kissed his lips. But she would not meet his eyes.

Delta Blues (Romy Livingstom, Kaomin MacDonald)

Delta Blues

The afternoon was hot, and humid, as it usually got on the delta in the summertime. The precinct’s air conditioner fought hard to keep up, but was sadly succumbing to the siege of heat coming from outside. Detective Kaomin MacDonald was hoping for a breeze to come up off the lake, as it sometimes did, but it was only a hope.

His desk was cluttered, several cases lay open where he could peruse them yet again as if he was able to resurrect a clue by sheer willpower. The clutter matched the dingy, off white walls and brown linoleum floor, as well as the single door with ‘Supernatural Investigations Unit Two’ stenciled on it in reverse. He had no window. It was better than ‘Broom Closet’, which he was sure had been stenciled on the door before the Commissioner had decided to create a unit dedicated to vampire related investigations. He was still awaiting his file cabinet, and the promised partner. The detective was fairly sure they wouldn’t find anyone foolish enough to volunteer, but seriously how hard was it to find a file cabinet.

MacDonald was just about to get a coffee when there was a knock on the door and his Sergeant stepped in.?

“Hey, Mac,” the Sergeant began, “it’s hot as hell up here, open the friggin’ door already.”

“If I open it,” Kaomin said, “people come in. What brings you upstairs, Sarge?”

The big man huffed a short laugh. “Got a case you might be interested in. The gang unit responded to a fight between the Lobos and the Kings this morning, we got about half a dozen of each in the morgue.”?

“Yea, heard about that, but they’re were-creature related. I’m a vamp guy,” he offered, not bothering to add that he was the only ‘vamp guy’.

“One of the bodies was exsanguinated,” the Sergeant stated, “looks like it was already there when the fight started, or so the coroner thinks. Found him nude without any blood, or his junk.”

Kaomin was already sitting up. “Emasculated? That’s a new one. Post mortem, or pre?”

“Does it matter?” the Sergeant asked, “whoever offed him took his johnson.”

“Yea it matters,” MacDonald shot back as he stood up and grabbed his suit jacket. “One is sadistic torture and the other is a trophy. Speaks to the kind of psychopath that did it. Might even have been an accidental overfeeding incident, and the vampire wanted a lover’s momento.”

“You’re one creepy bastard, Mac,” the Sergeant said shaking his head. “Body’s at the morgue now, crime scene’s over on Canal near Second. Detective Brewster has the files, he’ll brief you. Good luck.”?

“Great,” Kaomin said to himself after the sergeant had left, “Brewster. Fuckin’ were-bear asshole.”

Brewster was a big man, just under seven feet tall, and well over three hundred pounds. MacDonald was, of course, of slightly less than average height and build. “Hey, Brewster,” he called out as he entered the bullpen, “Sarge says you got the file on the exsanguination victim.”

Standing up, Brewster scanned the room at his own eye level. “Who said that?” he teased. “Stand up and show yourself.” He held the file up over his head, inches from the ceiling, “got the file right here.”

“Shite,” Kaomin muttered. Going ‘dark’, a trait of his dhampiric nature that rendered him, if not invisible, at least completely unnoticed, he jumped to Brewster’s empty chair and leaped over him, snagging the file in mid jump.

“Thanks mate,” he called back with the file in his hand, “you rock!”

As he strolled out several of the other Supernatural Investigation Unit One officers snickered as Brewster stood there open mouthed. Finally the were-bear closed his mouth and muttered, “creepy lil’ fucker.”

The neighborhood around Second and Canal was run-down industrial. Old brick warehouses and workshops shared space with salvage yards and peeling clapboard houses. The area reeked of oil and stagnant water sweltering in the summer heat. There were chalk outlines everywhere and tatters of forgotten crime scene tape still fluttered in the faint breeze.

MacDonald took the photos out of the file folder and walked around, getting a feel for the scene and orienting himself. Finally he located the narrow culvert where the vampire victim was discovered. He knelt down, holding the best photo in line with the area in front of him.

Suddenly he was overshadowed and he looked up to see who was blocking his light. “Here, this is a crime scene,” he said, “I’ll have to ask you to stand back.”

“You MacDonald?” a female voice asked. She was backlit by the summer sun, so Kaomin couldn’t get a good look at her. He could, however, tell she was holding out a police shield.

“Aye,” he replied, “call me Mac, and who might you be?”

“Your new partner,” the interloper stated.?

MacDonald stood up to get a better look at his ‘new partner’. “I expected the file cabinet first,” he stated, “who did you piss off to get assigned to S.I.2?”

“How about everyone?” Romy Livingston merely shrugged. The world they lived in wasn’t an easy one. It was basically all about who you knew or rather who you didn’t. A lot of people in the force didn’t exactly like her. There were a couple of reasons for that. For one, she was a woman. That of course was somehow the least offensive on her resume, changed times and all that jam. Though the force in its entirety was still very much a boy’s club, they were gradually easing into the whole concept of women being around for more than just glorified coffee makers.?

The second reason for her not being quite so popular was the fact that she was rather young in the grand scheme of things. A 26 year old police officer wasn’t that out of the ordinary, but one out of uniform quite so soon? I started up the rumor mile. Surely she had to be screwing someone at the top to work herself up the ranks quite so quickly. Didn’t really matter that none of those rumors were actually true. Once people made up their minds about things, damn did they make up their minds.?

The third reason of course was the most obvious. Her not being quite as human as she probably ought to be. Not a wolf though. Nope, that would of course be far too easy. Were cat more precisely. People, especially humans tended to dislike having a partner that changed into a white leopard every time she tended to get angry. It was quite the relationship breaker as well as it turned out to be.?

And then of course there was the fact that the last case she had been working on, while in uniform she had actually broken a perp’s nose just because things got a little personal. Hey, what could you do. She had ordered him to stay down. When people didn’t listen they tended to get what was coming to them.?

“Romy Livingston,” The young woman introduced, extending her hand. “Would say that it’s good to meet you but that of course still remains to be seen.” Polite yet not beating around the bush, Romy honestly didn’t seem the point in that. “So what do we have here? Fill me in?”?

As he held out his hand to shake his new partner’s Kaomin said, “my apologies for the disappointment. I’m assuming you’ve been briefed on me, so I’ll spare you the gory details.” She was young for a detective, and easy on the eyes at least. Kaomin figured it could have been worse, they could have saddled him with a moronic lout like Brewster. Livingston seemed at the very worst inexperienced, but somewhat intelligent, and she moved with a grace that screamed ‘werecreature’. He decided that he could work with her, at least for a few days.

Offering a slight grimace Kaomin added, “oh, and whoever did it stole his family jewels as well. We’ll have to check in with the coroner next to see exactly what bits are missing.”

Re: High Moon Tales. Tales of the Wicked West.

(Old Chase)

He ignored the fact that she was holding the Sicilien's hand, he didn't ignore it completely.?

Re: What Lies in the Heart. Mikayla/The Dragon

?-Mikayla

“Aye... he does. I understand his gruffness.” She said absentmindedly as she read over one of the pages in the tomb. “He wand me to be able to conjure tea. I didn’t even think he drank tea.” She said reading.?

And it was almost as if the minute she began to read, she was drawn in. The world of magic inside the book calling to her. Leading her towards something bigger than herself...and so she followed it. Unsure what she would find.
_._,_._,_
