Intro Genealogy

Hello
My line of Young's are from Perth-shire, Scotland and are recorded in Perth
marriage of George Young and Mary Simpson in 1793. They had eight children
all born in Perth.
( 3 died at a young age and buried in Grayfriers Cemetery, before
relocating to Montreal,Canada about 1818 The family trade was plasterer,
which was followed for at least five generations, ending in 1929 with the
sudden death of Alfred Alexander Young in 1929. The family over time
expanded to Eastern Townships of Quebec, Vermont, NY City, Rochester,
Brantford, Toronto, Vancouver,BC and Los Angeles and beyond.
Family Tree DNA testing at Y-111 shows a strong connection to Young
families of Methven, Perth-shire. Y-111 in haplogroup I-M253 and Y-700 as
I-A6826

Hi, I noticed your y-dna haplogroup of I-6826! I took the FTDNA BigY test a while back and received the same haplogroup results. That means we share a common paternal ancestor circa 150 AD (I think). I am still new to genetic genealogy but my paternal Odom/Odum line has lived in American since at least the 1680s. The earliest records I've found were a Richard Odium who lived in Nansemond, VA and died in 1727 in Chowan, NC. Unfortunately, I have not been able to trace my line back to Britain yet. I have read that my Odom line may have been Welsh or Scottish so the fact that your Young ancestors were from Perthshire could be a clue.

Hi Dave
I will try to forward current Clan Young newsletter as it has an article on
current DNA study. I think it will help.
Not sure how to attach it to this email address.
