Controller driver in a Steel Mill? Help pls.

I have found one of my rellies described as being " Controller driver in a Steel Mill" what does he actually do? This was on the 1939 reg on Findmy Past.
?
any help much appreciated, Brynda

I can't find anything on the specifics of the job, I suspect its moving heavy items around with overhead hoists but could be wrong

I suspect its nothing to technical as of the 35 I found with that occupation transcribed in the 1921 census and the 1939 register, 23 were 19 or younger, the youngest 16

My suggestion is that he was the operative of one of the (huge mangle like) rolling mills that converted the hot steel ingots into coil, sheet or bar.? See for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxAmgrRXcf4

Hi

Would the Magna Museum be able to help you? ?

they have a History of Steel Section and I think that they have volunteers who were steel workers – they ?may know what a controller driver did.
