Re-re-re-Union
No mention on the insecure Yesworld site yet, but see the "UNION 30 LIVE
OFFICIAL STORE"[1] for all the good including the $299.99 Yes – Union Live Limited Edition, Super Deluxe Flight Case and $350 Ultra Rare Test Pressings. A rare cut from the show interspersed with some details of the release[2] can be found on Rick's and Gonzo's YouTube channels. [1] [2] -- -Andrew J. Caines- Unix Systems Architect A.J.Caines@... Re: Prog Top 40 List
Hello J,
Your top 4 would be in my top 5 to be sure, although with me the order keeps changing, "depending on the day..."? I have no idea what the other track in my top 5 would be, but if we are including live tracks, it would probably be one of the Genesis In The Cage to Afterglow medleys. Good to see Our Song and Hearts in there, as well as Homeworld.? Somewhere in my 50 would be New Languages, and probably Cinema!? But it is all so difficult! More later, Cheers, A! |

Prog Top 40 List
开云体育Hello, folks, You will remember that I recently threatened to unleash my list of top 40-ish Prog songs of all time.? So brace yourselves.? It is an ever-changing list; sort of like an ever-evolving COVID-19 variant.? And here are two qualifications before I unveil the list. First, a piece like “The Remembering” is placed very high on the list, entirely on the strength of its second half. The first eight minutes are not great, while the last 11 or 12 minutes are mostly fantastic. I did not really know what to do about that, so I am honoring the quality of the second half by placing the overall work very high on this list.? Second, a piece like “Karn Evil 9” (ELP) may appear to be too low on the list for some of you. If that is your opinion, then I am sympathetic. However, as much as I love Emerson and Palmer, Lake’s guitar and bass work sounds pretty average to me. And, I might make the claim that those instruments are “fraudulently" presented on “Karn Evil 9” since he cannot play them both at once, yet we hear them both at once. That damages both the sophistication and the quality of the music, IMHO. (Yes, I know that Howe overdubs like a son-of-a-Gibson on pretty much every Yes song, but he can still play the primary parts live.)? Here are my choices in (an ever-changing) order: (The top four or five are fairly secure - everything else seems to slide around, depending on the day or my mood.) Close to the Edge Awaken Gates Southside of the Sky The Revealing Science of God The Remembering The Ancient? Roundabout? Turn of the Century? Long Distance Runaround? Run Through the Light On the Silent Wings of Freedom Siberian Khatru? Starship Trooper? And You and I Genesis, Watcher of the Skies ELP, Karn Evil 9 King Crimson, 21st Century Schizoid Man Spock’s Beard, Go the Way You Go Heart of the Sunrise Spock’s Beard, Harm’s Way Spock’s Beard, The Doorway? Our Song Chris Squire, Safe (Canon Song) Genesis, One for the Vine Gong, Wingful of Eyes Spock’s Beard, June Hearts? Genesis, For Absent Friends? Genesis, Mad Man Moon Genesis, Anyway Ritual Patrick Moraz, Dancing Now Genesis, In the Rapids / It Genesis, Supper’s Ready? Onward Sound Chaser Genesis, Return of the Giant Hogweed Tempus Fugit? Into the Lens Homeworld? Future Times / Rejoice I also want to say that if we were counting live versions, the live version of “Yours is no Disgrace” would probably be in the top five on my overall list. That thing is a total blast. The floor is now open for opinions, insults, and semi-lucid conversation.? Thanks, J |
Greetings
Hello, everyone, ? This is my 50th year listening to Yes. (Or, perhaps it is my 49th year. Everything is getting a bit fuzzy.)? ? I am thrilled to say that, for me, Yes’ music stands the test of time. In fact, I enjoy their music even more now than I did a few years (or decades) ago.? ? And, brace yourselves, but I have recently come to the fairly bold conclusion that the very best Prog pieces ever written were almost all written by Yes.? ? I am talking about the top dozen or so Yes songs. And many other Prog songs in my top 40 list belong to Yes as well. ? There is a quality to their music in terms of passion, creativity, musical structure, sensitivity, and technical skill that is rarely found anywhere else in the Prog world, IMHO. ? With that in mind, I’d like to send my ever-changing list of the top 40ish Prog rock pieces, by any band, for your consideration. And I would love to hear where you agree and/or disagree. ? If any of you have your own similar lists, I would enjoy seeing those as well. ? As point of reference: I only have one life-long Yes friend with whom I can talk about Yes. (We went to elementary school, junior high, and high school together - and we discovered Yes together in high school).? ? And since he is an otherwise normal human, I probably should give him a break from my Yes ramblings.? ? That’s where you all come in.? ? I realize this may be the last thing you want or need. So just say the word and I will slink away. ? J |

And here's a video of Jon's latest song

It's called "Go Screw Yourself (election edit)." Right off the bat you're thinking, "...that's a Jon song?" But yes, it is. He's pissed and it even includes the phrase "soulless M*F*ers." At least that's what I heard at about 2:50. Overall I think the song is pretty good. I think a different approach to the production would have been better. It feels too dense to me. I kind of feel the same about the song Going for the One. Gary On 10/24/2020 10:06 PM, Andrew J. Caines wrote:
