Locked Varied Thrush at Page Springs Bubbling Ponds
Sorry for the delay in posting this, I just figured out how to do so. There has been a male Varied Thrush observed at Bubbling Ponds on Dec 8, 10, and 11th in the same location 34.7626100, -111.8928431 So far this bird hasn’t been seen before 1pm. If you want to give it a try I’d recommend hitting the stakeout spot between 1-4:00. Be prepared to wait, dress warm, bring snack. Almost no cellphone reception here. Watch hackberry tree at these coordinates (34.7626100, -111.8928431) especially. If you’re interested in the shortest walking distance park in dirt lot across the street from Up The Creek Bistro on N. Page Springs Rd. Enter Bubbling Ponds property and follow trail signs south. Listen and look for flock of WEBL & AMRO to arrive because it seems to correspond with the thrush arrival. If you don’t use GPS: the stakeout spot is on Blackhawk Trail, about 50 yards west of the intersection with Willow Point Trail. Heather Hofling

Locked Yellow -bellied Sapsucker 2
There's an apparent Yellow-bellied Sapsucker adult male near the west end of Willow lake. Seen from the trail that goes parallel to Willow Creek eastbound to the lake.. see my ebird report for coordinates, photo to come.. Interestingly, there was also an adult male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker last year in the same area. -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Harris's Sparrow -12/24 NO 2
I combed the area (along with Steve Burk) for a few hours this AM, to no avail. Bird activity was slow until it warmed a bit after 10am so maybe it’ll turn up again. Thanks for the excellent directions, Mark! Bryan Patrick Prescott

Locked Harris's Sparrow
Mark & Micah Riegner and I found a very tame Harris's Sparrow along the old track leading east from the quarry along Willow Creek. It hopped within three feet of us. I entered it in eBird here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S122891281 More photos there. Here are some more details: 34.60254 -112.44415. Foraging all by itself. Completely fearless. Did double-foot scratch, getting seeds almost every time. Happy Birding! Walt -- Walt Anderson

Forwarding a post from Walt Anderson (yesterday, somehow blocked) : Mark & Micah Riegner found a HARRIS'S SPARROW along the trail that goes east along Willow Creek from the old quarry/dog park trailhead. Coordinates are : 34.60254, -112.44415. Apparently, this bird was quite approachable. Happy Thanksgiving! Locked Common Loon at Willow Lake
Seen from east side, general area of dam. Barring on wings, gray bill, white partial collar. Bill appears larger than Pacific's and border on throat between light and dark is not distinct. Unfortunately no ducks near it for size comparison. Laura Rhoden

Locked Mississippi Kites
I drove out to the exact spot where this bird has been spotted, photographed and seen carrying nesting material in years past. Saw MIKIs three separate times. Once there were 2 adults - second time joined by an apparent immature (first year?) bird and lastly saw two soaring way, way, way high up. Go to Jordon Meadows in Camp Verde and turn on Pheasant Run Circle. On the right side heading east are huge copses of pines and Cottonwoods. This is where an adult was photographed years past and seen carrying nesting material. I walked Pheasant Run Circle and saw the birds all three times on this road. Another birder drove right out and acquired the same three birds. There used to be an expert who birded this area regularly and has since moved. Nobody really goes out there so for all we know, these birds have been nesting there since I saw them in 2017.

Locked Willow Lake South shore
A fairly quick stop late this afternoon turned up one lone Cattle Egret in breeding plumage in the reddish grasses on your left as you walk toward the lake and a nice displaying male Bronzed Cowbird in that lone little cottonwood, close to the water, that's half bare and half green. No shorebirds. -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Empids and Broad-winged Hawks
Seeing lots of empids in the Verde Valley this Spring - like an irruption of Gray, Hammond's and Dusky. I had 8 today on a field trip and Chip Norton had as many. Yesterday, I had a good number at Oak Creek Estates. Sighting of what appeared to be a light-form juvy Broad-winged Hawk over lagoon 3 at DHSP. Also had a light-adult soaring over Willowbrook. These, in addition to the one photographed at Wet Beaver Creek make it a nice flow of this buteo through the area. Lisa

Locked Willow Lake 4
The best bird of the morning so far was a Bonaparte's Gull, (basic plumage} swimming on either side of the North shore boat dock ramp area, near a ring-bill. Also of interest, Yellow-headed blackbirds and a Merlin and a couple dozen nice Eared Grebes in breeding plumage. -- Sue Drown Prescott

Locked Harris's Hawk, Lawrence:s Goldfinch
I found the hawk this morning in Watson Woods. It was flying straight south from the lake toward the parkway bridge, straight overhead. The Lawrence's was in the grasses about 150 yards south of the Prescott lakes parkway bridge, viewed from the trail that angles to the west towards a group of three cottonwoods . It was a nice bright male, of course it could be anywhere in those grasses now. -- Sue Drown Prescott
