Black-throated Sparrow
Seen and photographed this morning near the bench on the ridge at the south end of Watson Lake (off the Peavine trail).? Rare for this location. I see no other eBird reports at Watson for this species and Tomoff's Birds of Prescott lists this species as r,S-T.? Interestingly, Eric Moore reported a Black-throated Sparrow at Willow Lake recently, which?raises the possibility of this being the same bird or, more speculatively, of this species expanding their range? Steve Burk p.s. As you can see from the 2nd photo, I was lucky to get these 2 photos. |
They show up in the Dells now and then. They may breed around the head of Boulder Creek on Glassford Hill. On Fri, Apr 25, 2025, 11:55?AM Steve Burk via <prescottburk=[email protected]> wrote:

Thank you Steve for sharing.? My observation was on the south shore of Willow Lake, right where there is the small grove of cottonwood trees that you walk through to get to the south shore of the lake.? It was about two weeks ago when I saw one black-throated sparrow.? -Eric On Fri, Apr 25, 2025 at 11:55?AM Steve Burk via <prescottburk=[email protected]> wrote:

I saw the Black-throated Sparrow this morning (10:20) foraging low at the base of the small tree between the IBA sign and the bench, general area where Steve reported seeing it.?? Bonnie
