Carly Taylor of the Natural History Institute reported this bird (with two photos) to me on May 10, so it's been around for a while. Re: White Pelicans
I drove by both the north and south ends of Willow lake at about 4:00-4:30 and did not see the pelicans.? I also checked at Watson Lake and did not see any.? There are a number of boaters/kayakers on the lake and I wonder if that caused them to fly off? -Matt Hinton On Sun, Apr 7, 2024 at 10:05?AM Richard Balland <rballandg@...> wrote:

update: pelicans
I arrived at the parking area near the zoo at 9:35 am and the pelicans were sitting on the water nearby in the cove where they remained until close to !0:00.? Without being disturbed, they then spontaneously took to the air. I estimated there were?about 130. Evidently the?air had warmed?sufficiently?for them to catch a thermal. Steve |

White Pelicans
I can make out a large number (perhaps >100) of White Pelicans from our back patio at the far west end of Willow Lake (at 9:15 am).? I am going to drive over to near the zoo now. Steve Burk |
