Just curious 3
Hello How has everyone been? Over the last few months I have referenced Dans Yardbird website to a couple of people wanting to buy Mantua Parts. They have written back to me stating their phones calls and emails are not being answered. Is Dan okay? Is he still selling Train Parts?

Just wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas! 3
Hey everyone, haven't posted in a while or threw in any pics, haven't left the group. My old lady's mother recently passed away from cancer and that's consumed a lot of time along with my grand parents back in central pa not doing to good. But I have still been tinkering with my trains a lot. Never did get my 2-8-2 running right so it's been sitting. I think it needs a whole new drive train, running gear, has a bad bind. I'm actually looking to move to a house with a decent basement so I can throw down some big time layout. I've had an 0-6-0 laying around that I ran last Christmas. Needing a switcher I need to convert itmtoma can motor, FCC, and put a belpaire firebox on it. Yardbird trains used to have a John English correct prr casting for an 0-6-0 but I don't see it listed on his website anymore along with his can motors. Maybe I missing something. Checked our an open house last week for a rr club here in Columbus. Poor guys are paying $1000' a month for a little building to put their setup in. Felt bad for them. Mostly retired and no funds. Gave them a small donation. Anyways I'll get back to adding photos at some point, of my work. Take care. Jerry

Adding DCC to Bowser, Pennline, John English, or Varney Locomoti
Hello list, I've added Digitrax decoders to several Bowser engines. So far, I've worked successfully on a K4s, L1s, and H9s (the model now represents an H10s, but that's another story). I set aside an I1sa project because the resin tender I tried was giving me fits, but that's not a Bowser problem. I haven't had a situation (yet) where the DCC installation itself caused problems with pulling power....I haven't had to cut away boiler weights in my installations so far. I have found that adding electrical pickups to the pilot truck of the Bowser K4s (and also the Mantua Pacific) really helps....I didn't get as big a benefit when I tried to add pickup to the lead trucks of my H9s and L1s. In general, DCC-equipped models do better with additional pickup points. As far as starting voltage and maximum voltage, I haven't changed any of the settings on my Digitrax decoders....their manual has directions for changing Configuration Variable (CV) 02 (starting voltage), CV03 (acceleration rate), and CV05 (maximum voltage) amongst others. Perhaps your decoder is set for a lower maximum voltage? I uploaded photos of my L1s Mike as fitted with a Digitrax DZ125 decoder to the photos section in a file titled "Doug Kisala's Kitbashes." You can also try the direct link below...you may need to copy and paste it. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/yardbirdtrains/photos/album/725275325/pic/list On my I1sa project, I purchased an aftermarked resin tender to replace the Bowser (nee Varney) 32 foot tender which had worked well for me. In this case, I could not get the resin tender to reliably pick up electricity, so I'll be reverting to the less accurate, but dead reliable Varney tender or perhaps a Bowser 130F82 tender in the future.
