First off, that is, definitely, a John English pacific. I've always liked the look of the JE mikados and pacifics and I've realized that it's their driver's that I like. They just look graceful to me. Elegant.

Secondly, I'd like to clear up some confusion about the relationship between the John English/Hobbyline company and Bowser which is owned by a family named "English." Although the last names are the same, the respective companies are not related. John English: Morrisville, PA.

Lew English (Bowser): Montoursville, PA.

The lineage trees are as follows:

John English / Hobbyline was bought by Lionel.

Bowser, Penn Line, Cary, Cal-scale, Selley, Pennsylvania Scale Models, part of Varney, Arbour Models were all bought by Lew English. Lee English would, later, purchase Stewart and add that to Bowser as well.

The only related items between the two companies were the following:

Bowser L1 Mikado valve gear will fit a JE Mikado.

Also Lew English used a John English Yardbird as the starting point for his PRR A5 locomotive design. Although different in almost every way, the manner in which the rear of the frame of the Bowser A5 fits into a notch below the cab was copied almost exactly from the JE Yardbird.

Lastly Penn Line bought the tooling for the boiler and tender shell of their H class 2-8-0 from John English. The original JE PRR consolidation was a conversion kit to be used with Varney parts. When Penn Line bought the boiler, they made their own chassis to go with it. Years later Penn Line went bankrupt and Lew English bought the PL stock and added it to Bowser which included what was once a JE boiler.

This is a John English 4-6-2; similar to Bowser's K11 but not as the drivers come out to about 73". The John English tooling was then simplified to become Lionel HO. I think the fireman's side rods are correct for John English.

That looks like an old Penn Line locomotive. I believe they later became Bowser.

Who ever rebuilt the locomotive put a new brass frame inside the old plastic frame.
I have installed DCC decoder and run the locomotive now and then.

I have this one. A Rio Grand Model, looks to me like a Rivarossi motor and drive on only the rear truck.

wire harness for Mantua 0-6-0 steam engine

I am looking for a Mantua steam engine hardness model MPM-389-9 or equivalent for a Mantua Goat. The existing harness was cut so short it is impossible to attach a DCC decoder harness.

Any information on where I can obtain a replacement harness would be greatly appreciated.

The trucks and side frames fit but the holes where they would attach do not match.
That indicates the trucks are from some thing else. You can see the trucks have a good pick up on all wheels
The motor is large, but runs under a 1/4 amp
I plan on making the loco DCC and that is why I took it apart.
Looks like a professional upgrade

Well constructed with the German motor
All wheels pick up, but the flanges are a bit larger but not as large as old AHM wheels are.
