QY-100 Blank Screen After switching mode

HI there,?
i was working on the QY-100 changing midi cables when i accidentally switched mode from midi to pc. The screen went immediately blank but everything else kept working, i had audio and midi control. Now every time i turn it on, the screen flashes for a millisecond and then goes blank but the audio and functionality keeps working. Anyone have a clue about what is this and how to fix it?

Thanks

Hi,

Changing the switch from midi to pc ?shouldn’t cause that behavior. if turning it on and off does not fix it, try using another power supply (or batteries) or try removing the battery backup to force a reset.

I asume you did not do any weird thing placing the midi cables (like connecting some voltage outside the specs) right?

Welcome to the group !

Never heard of that happening before, but anything us possible. ?

My first thought would be to double check the easiest stuff first:

Step ?0) Backup your songs and patterns to smartmedia if possible.

Further steps:
1) Check the contrast…if you bumped one adjustment then you might have bumped the contrast knob as well.?
…if that does’t work…
2) Do a full contrast sweep side-to-side and if the screen doesn't appear, then stop the contrast at what you feel to be the halfway point (so if anything else works you will see a screen change)
…if that does’t work…
?3) Turn off the power and startup the QY in recovery mode to setup Factory defaults (NOTE: you will lose all data in memory, but not data on card).
Factory restore procedure:
Power on while pressing and holding down the [AMP SIMULATOR] , [PARAMETER] and [SONG] buttons simultaneously. The *QY100 TEST* diagnostics screen will appear. 2) Release the buttons. 3) Press the [F3] Function button (third grey button from the top on the right side of the display) to select '[F3]:Factory Set'.? ?The QY100 will reboot automatically.
…if that does’t work…
4) Unplug it, take the batteries out and leave it off for 10 good solid seconds… then try putting them back and try doing item #2 (full contrast sweep….stopping at 50% again)
…if that does’t work…
5) Do same as step 4 but ALSO remove the 4 or 5 screws on the bottom of the unit and open it like a book where the spine of the book is front of the QY (this prevents you from breaking/unplugging the internal battery cable. ?Once open place QY screen-down (i:e Book open) and unscrew the two screws holding the PCB board and the copper foil down. ?Next just gently lift only the copper foil and you will see a slot filled with a coin cell CR2032 backup battery. Slide the battery tofward the spring side and the opposite end of the coin will popup for easy removal. ?(Do not simply try to pull the battery without sliding toward the spring side or it will crack the battery holder.) Once the internal battery is removed (as well as regular batteries and any powercord)….wait a nice full 10 seconds (for any charged capacitors to dissipate). Then reassemble and see if the screen is better (remeber to do step 2 again regarding the contrast sweep and 50% placement.

Tip 1: If this is all done solely with AA batteries (no powerbrick) then make sure they are good batteries.

Tip 2: If you do step 5 then it is probably a good ?time to replace the coincell with a fresh CR2032 battery…a really good one can last 10 years. ?Coincell goes in positive side up when inserting into holder… insert it in reverse…place it diagonally in holder then slide toward spring side then let it slide back (away from spring) while holding the back end down a little to allow it to go back into it’s original position. ?Never a bad idea to write the year the battery was replaced on the positive side of it for future reference.

Step 6) No matter what happens… If any of the above work, ?or if none of the above work, ?or if you figured out something else that works… Please update your post and let us know what happened… This will help others who may run into the same problem…

Best,
Eric

Oh yeah, make sure the midi cables are going to the coreect IN/OUT connections… I often get that silly step backwards, lol.

i just realized thanks to reading the responses that i accidentally at some point moved the contrast knob. I totally forgot it even existed!!?
As a defense I must say I was?very high last night

Don’t feel bad it’s a pretty common mistake.

Glad to hear it wasn’t anything serious !

Cheers,
Eric
