QY70 screen and piano pad repairs

Paul Barton

Happy New Year to the QY Group!!!

I have a couple of questions on repairing a QY70 which I hope can get some advice with...

1. The black & white piano keys on my QY70 have recently lost sensitivity, especially around the middle C, D and add9/M keys. Does anyone know how these can be improved? I know Akai MPC pad sensitivity can be improved with the simple hack of adding a thin layer of rubber (or something similar) to reduce the gap between the pad and the sensor. Has anyone done this before and could suggest a method of cleaning or improving the sensitivity?

2. My LCD screen is now missing one of the vertical columns which seems to have died. Could this be a case of checking for a loose connection or is this totally unfixable? I know these little gadgets were first made in 1997 so components are starting to get a bit tired, but I'm happy to open up the bonnet and have a look underneath if its worth it - otherwise I'll be checking out Ebay for a replacement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated -HNY!

For the keys, some conductive paint does the trick

have a little tube of that stuff from aliexpress for an mmt8, not tried yet. any good? any tips?

tbh topic title made me think: and if there could be a screen breakout port, and some sort of arduino business, so you could plug your QY into (an SVGA or something)? external screen?

Welcome to the group! ?

To answer your questions:?

?

1. Most of the time for keys cleaning the?metal?contacts with 90% alcohol soaked qtip brings them back. ? It other cases using a white ink-eraser (not pink) cleans them deeper. ?If the contacts are really bad you can gently clean the rubberized side as well (but only a little as the alcohol can disolve the graphite pad if you do to much..

?

2. The line issue is generally not bad pixels, it is a loose contact on the screen board... meaning a loose metal clamp. ? ?You need to dissassemble the QY fully to get to the screen (starting from the back). ?Once the screen is removed you will see bent metal tabs(clamps) on the back holding the screen pcb to the screen. ?

Press the screen gently along the top and bottom edge until the line dissappears then tighten the bent metal clamp (nearest that spot) by twisting it gently … do?not?overdue or you will break the tab off.?

?Alternatively, You can bend the four tabs backwards and remove the screen pcb and clean it like the keybed (described above) but that is extremely tricky… Doing so also allows you to clean the rubber contacts on the screen itself but you risk quite a bit if you’re not technically inclined.?

?

Good luck,

Eric

Wow! Thanks for the info Eric, especially the detailed LCD?screen comments. Time to break out the tool box and get that case open!!

Very interesting! The only time I've ever seen that done is on the??sequencer. It's a bit above my technical ability but it's a great concept.
