Qy100 blank screen

Hi everyone I m Dan and I’m new here ,also thanks in advance
So I decided to dust off my old qy100
Plugged it in and no problems ,ran fine
and had fun
On then 2nd time I turned it on the screen lite up as usual with the exploding graphics
But then went dark
Is there anyone here who can give insight
to the issue?
Much appreciation for any info
Thanks
Dan

Dan,

Welcome to the group!

Contrast adjuster could be flaky... but otherwise my bet would be capacitor plaque...which unfortunately can be rather hard to diagnose, which is why people will often replace all the capacitors if it is strongly suspected. ?Google “Capacitor Plaque Wikipedia” for more detailed info and pics on what to look for.

However, before going that route, I would open it up and check to see if you have had any significant battery leaks any/or corrosion... you will need to take the entire back off to be certain, since the battery compartment can sometimes not gove an accurate picture.

If you have corrosion then cleaning the PCBs thoughly (and carefully) with alcohol (or electronic cleaner) might resolve the issue.

Cheers,
Eric?

Are you using batteries or AC? I had my QY70 working fine on AC, but it flaked on batteries. Much like you describe. I opened it to try to fix some dead horizontal lines on the screen and saw corrosion near the battery compartment. I cleaned it case and compartment (not PCB) with white vinegar then rinsed and batteries work fine now.?

That’s a good point about the battery leak possibility. ?It’s worth mentioning if you mix baking soda (not baking powder) with vinegar it will actually help dissolve battery corrosion even more effectively than vinegar alone. ? Also if battery corrosion gets on the PCB you could use a good electronic contact cleaner spray to remove (at least some of) the surface corrosive battery chemicals without impacting the electronics...thus preventing more issues down the line.

?I have used this stuff to thoroughly clean the PCB (but I did make sure to remove PCB from case so as to not spray display, keyboard, etc).

CRC Electronics Cleaner:?

Another thought (since is seems to boot up) is to do a blind factory reset... though this will cause you to lose all patterns and songs (except for presets).
