MIDI LFO V1.0 is live!
Try it out:

About:
MIDI LFO can be used to apply an LFO to your Yamaha QY70 and QY100 tracks (or other MIDI capable devices). You can choose what type of waveform, rate, MIDI CC, and other parameters to control with the LFO. The web tool even listens for play messages from your device, allowing it to re-trigger/sync the wave every time you begin playing on the device.

How to use:
  • Connect your Yamaha QY70 or QY100 (or any MIDI device) to your computer. This can be done with a MIDI to USB connection.
  • If your device is recognized you will see it show up as an option in the drop downs. If not, connect and refresh the page.
  • Make selections for each drop down and the LFO waveform will appear on screen to provide a visual representation of the wave.
  • If using “Pattern Mode” on your QY70 or QY100, navigate to the MIDI Utility screen and ensure MIDI CONTROL is set to In/Out, and PATT OUT is set to 1~8 or 9~16.
  • The LFO will affect whichever instrument you currently have highlighted on your QY70 or QY100.
  • The LFO will re-trigger for all waveform types (excluding the Sample & Hold waveform). It will not automatically sync the BPM of the song, this must be matched manually with the slider.

Compatibility:
  • Limited browser compatibility. Web MIDI cannot be used in Safari.
  • Will not work on mobile devices.
?
And a reminder that this is version 1.0 of the webtool, so if you run into issues or notice something needing to be fixed, reach out and let me know.

It unfortunate it cannot run on Safari or mobile… Does it run on Chrome or Firefox on an iPad?

(I doubt it, but I figured it is worth asking as alot of people use iPads for music)

According to the Web Midi API documentation it should only work on:

  • Chrome
  • Edge
  • Firefox
  • Opera
?
May work limitedly with:

  • Chrome (Android)
  • Firefox (Android)
  • Opera (Android)
  • Samsung Internet
(However I disabled it from displaying on phones, though could enable this if I resize the display).?

Tablets could work on Android devices potentially, though you would need some sort of MIDI to USB-c to work with it as it requires a connected MIDI device to function.
?
iOS will probably never work though... unfortunately Apple has always lacked a lot of the new and cool web features with their phones and tablets. I suspect they do this on purpose as they make a large portion of their earnings off creators developing apps for their app store, so they discourage anything that would compete with that. It'll work on a Mac computer running the appropriate browser though. I developed and tested this on a Mac using Chrome and then retested on Windows.
