Getting MIDI Files out of the QY70

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere.

I've got some songs in my QY70 that I would like to get into Logic to finish off, but I don't have access to a working copy of the datafiler software. Is there another way to get the songs off it?
Thanks,
Andy

Hi,

The DataFiler program for the QY70 is in the file section of this user group.

?cheers,
Eric?

Out of curiosity, I assume you're replacing the sounds in Logic? Or do you have some access to the XG library in Logic?
Interested to hear more.

Hi placific,

?

Yeah, the plan is to replace the sounds with other synths. I like the QY70 for getting song ideas down quickly, and in an actual song format.

These are just demos that I want to get firmed up for a band recording next year.

I’ve just found them, thanks Eric.

I spotted the readme file says they work up to Win7. I’ll see how I get on with Win 10.

?ust tested it recently: use the QY100 Data Filer: you just need a valid USB-MIDI converter: tried both with an Edirol UM-880 and a cheap single channel cable.
The trick is to (temporarily) configure the QY to have an external MIDI sync.

There is also a QY70 DataFiler program...see files section.

Edited

Almost certainly same holds for QY70.
The "Data Filers" for those boxes work if the QY* is in "tone generator
mode" (i.e. Ext Sync off, Local off).

;)

Evening all,

I appreciate that I'm replying to my own message from 14 months ago. :)

Since then I've abandoned Windoze (unless I'm getting paid to use it) and moved over to Linux. In case it's useful to anyone, I just wanted to confirm that the QYFiler works fine in MX Linux 19.3 (using WINE). I've been able to back up and restore ALL and individual songs. I've not tried Patterns yet, that's next on my playlist. See screenshot.

Regards,
Andy

seem to recall that the pattern files are *.sty style files,? - or *Q1P?
can't remember if these open in CasmEdit style editor -something i checked out a long time ago-
... where style files are concatenated MIDI files, with separators between sections?

the SM card on the QY100 does not let you import/export *.mid files directly, but the DataFiler does, -i think?-

Can just confirm that the QY Filer works nicely under Ubuntu 20.04 + KXStudio. Songs, patterns (i.e. "Styles" in QYspeak), plain MIDI files. this indeed holds for several pieces of "for Windows only" software, either run nucley under WINE (e.g. the (in)famous SoundTower editor for Kurzweil boards) or are Java stuff, that is natively non-windows specific (e.g. Studiologic Sledge filer). No need on my side for a SM card.

The only thing I've not managed to get running on MX is the SoundTower Wavestation Editor. I'll try it again now I know the QY one works. I may well have done something wrong setting it up.
