Features where QY70 > QY100?
So I've had a little over 24 hours with my new (old) QY100, and for the most part it's everything I'd hoped it would be.
However, I didn't realize that it doesn't have the QY70's —instead it uses per-track swing.? The QY100 also seems to be missing some preset styles from the QY70 (Joe Orgren's QY70 FAQ mentioned , which isn't in the QY100's ). From the and the , I'd assumed the QY100's features were a superset of the QY70.? But it seems like the reality is a little more complicated.? So I'm curious:

Going by memory here, so caveat emptor:
?
The groove templates are cool but more or les the same thing as quantisizing on the fly and applying it to more than one track... but definitely fun for the creative process when looking for inspiration or just for happy accidents. The QY100 has slightly newer XG samples that are supposedly slightly better than the QY70. ?Many of the QY70 presets were replaced by different presets for the QY100, not necessarily better, just different. ? Same is true for demo songs. ?
QY100 has the whole guitar amp/mic simulator thing going on. ? This is actually pretty cool if you plug in a electric guitar and throw on a pattern to play along with...makes a nice practice setup... much more creative process than a metronome.
?
QY100 has the smartmedia card for backing up data (but not guitar/mic audio as it does not record that).
?
Internally there is an extra copper magnetic shielding layer in the QY100 which should reduce interference, but that was never an issue on the QY70, so maybe it helps with the smartmedia card reader (?)
?
BTW, leaving a smartmedia card in the slot supposedly will deplete the battery ever so slightly, this is mentioned in the manual... not sure if this refers to only when it is on.
?
Screens are identical with longer leads on the QY100 version. ?No built-in backlit on either ?though mod ideas abound (search forum for more info on those).
?
Internally, both have user-replaceable (non-soldered) backup batteries (both use standard CR2032 coin cell).
?
QY100 has segmented battery compartments, and internally the battery leads are connected via a JST plug which allows the battery compartment (bottom half of the unit) to be (more easily) unplugged/separated during mods. ?QY70’s battery leads are soldered internally.
?
As I recall the factory reset button combos are different.
?
The QY100 keybed is wider with slightly larger keys with slightly more spacing between them.
?
The QY70 and QY100 use different PC/Mac Filer software. ?I never tried to test inter-compatibility though.
?
Both run very well on rechargeable eneloops (LSD) NIMH batteries. ?I think alkalines net about two hours, but a good set of eneloops *seem* to last longer than that for me (though I never put this to a rigorous timed test). ??
?
The QY100 is larger, so some features/buttons/keys require a tad more reach. ?
?
There may be other differences, but that is all that is coming to mind right now.
