Found BPM can be pushed much higher that originally thought. So far 1000BPM possible. [QY100 Explorer]

Initially I thought that the BPM of the QY100 was controlled by a single byte. It turns out it's actually controlled 2 bytes. This has led me to realize the BPM can be pushed much higher than originally thought. So far I've tested up to 1000BPM and it's functioning well. I will continue pushing higher in hopes of finding the upper limit. I already attempted hexadecimal FF FF (theoretically the highest value, equivalent to 65535BPM), however this value would not load into the device and resulted in a frozen load screen. So looks like I'll have to find the upper limit via trial and error.
Expect some .Q1P files soon allowing you to access high BPMs on your device.? --

Made a few projects set at 900 and 1000 BPM. Be aware if you overload the project with notes at these high BPMs, it can cause the QY100 display to temporarily freeze. This requires a shutdown to resolve. Sometimes the resulting cacophony of sound during the freeze is extremely desirable. So I've spent the past few hours crashing the sequencer on purpose to create some droning glitchy soundscapes.?

Sounds so cool, if you have some audio examples I’m sure I’m not the only one interested in hearing. I imagine at very high bpms you can cross the threshold of hearing individual notes and it sounds more like sustained tones in a modular-FM kinda way? Will do. I should have time to record something in the next day or so. If you happen to have the proper equipment for loading up the .Q1P files, I've made a few available to download here. (SQUEEK'M.Q1P and SQUEEK'R.Q1P).
I would describe the sound as more frame-like and dense as the QY100 is executing the samples at an overclocked rate. I ran a quick test and getting a sustained tone is somewhat possible but it's a bit of a balancing act as packing too many notes in the project will cause the device to freeze, requiring a reset. I can now see the device being capable of making music that would fall into the Noise and Drone genres. I had a pretty nice sound texture going before I crashed the device. Even crashing the device can be interesting in it's own way. When the display freezes, the audio ends up melding together in unexpected ways and playing out indefinitely. So, I've been doing this on purpose a little as it can result in some beautiful soundscapes. I'll try and capture one of these crashes too and share it.? --

开云体育Doffs- Stupid question: What is BPM as it relates to the QYs? Thanks.Gary On Sep 27, 2024, at 8:41?PM, Doffu via groups.io <sheamkennedy@...> wrote:

It is the beats per minute (or tempo) at which the QY100 plays back the sequence. The normal operating range of the QY100 is 25-300 BPM but can be extended beyond these limits with the supplied .Q1P files, effectively allowing you to fit more information into the same amount of space.
