Does anyone have any DX7 II performances that they can upload to the files section? Or can you tell me a site that has DX7 II performances? There are many sites with DX7 patches. But I cannot find any that have sounds already mapped into DX7 II performances using Dual, Mono, and Split modes. Thanks, Alphonso

Hi, I've just joined this group - as I'm considering adding a TX81Z to my current gear, to give me a slightly wider range of sounds. However, I've heard that editing is a nightmare using the front panel - and hence some sort of PC based patch editor is essential. I've searched around the net - and most patch editors I can find are written for either Amiga or MAC platforms. Could someone point me in the direction of an (ideally free!) patch editor for windoze - which is capable of loading any patches I'm likes to find on the net? I've heard the TX81Z is a great little box - but that you really have to delve into editing of sounds to get the best out of it. Greetings; Unfortunately SoundDiver is not cheap...upwards of $150 depending on where you buy it. (There are OEM versions w/ many newer synths, but they only work w/ that synth; an upgrade has to be purchased for unlimited use). Since my posting to the Egroup yesterday, I finally managed to get a shareware FB-01 patch editor working, it's called FM-Edit. It's old, and only works in DOS -- not from a DOS window, but actual DOS. Also, the envelope for each operator is in strict numeric form (ie. not graphic like SoundDiver or Midiquest), but once you get past that limitation it's not too bad. It also comes w/ a number of utilities, like a ROM voice fctory reset program, etc. I found it via a Google search on FB01, but for the life of me I can't recall the URL...the program is only 300kb, however, so if you want to try it, I could send it to you as an Email attachment. Hi folks. I bought some great patches when I used to have my atari 1040. The had some fantastic performances too. Unfortunately I've lost them... except I still have the floppies I purchased back then. Does anyone out there have an atari 140 ST and a PC? I was thinking if I do images of the floppies... you send them to your DX... then save the patches and performances in sysex I could then get these sounds back. Anyone willing to try this? We could then give the patches to whomever as the company who made these is out of business now, so I'm certain they would not mind. lemme know Cheers Steve

Hi, Here's a few things to check: Cartridge: If you have an original DX7, caartridges for the DX7II or DX7s wont work. I believe you might need an adapter to make an original DX7 cartridge work in a DX7II. If you are using a DX7II you may be trying to read patch data out of a section of the cartridge formated for micro tunings. Go into edit mode and press the cartridge button. You should be able to find out what section of the cartridge the DX7 is trying to read and you should be able to find out what it's formated for. Mod wheel: Also, check the patch to see whether any of the operators use Amod. Some patches don't have anything for EGbias and Amod to affect. Each operator (operators affect each other in various ways to produce a sound) has an Amod (I don't know if I'm remembering the name of it right) setting which allows the Mod wheel and other thing to vary the amplitude of the operator. More amplitude on some operators makes a part of the sound louder. On others, more amplitude will make part of the sound brighter. EGbias and Amod affect the same things. EGbias increases the amplitude of an operator. Amod varies the amplitude through the LFO to make the amplitude go up and down regularly. I'm sorry if this has been a little thick for a beginnig DX7 user. In short, you can try other patches and see whether EGbias and Amod affect them.
