DX7IIFD Manuals and Documentation.

First off, let me add this to the mix. Since Yahoo's "upgrade" of the groups
pages I've been unable to access the files page on any group.
I'm looking for just about everything on the DX7IIFD, without the E!
expansion.
Here's what I've got:
05 Voicing Parameter Reference Guide
06 Utility Parameter Reference Guide
07 Advanced Controller Usage
08 Realtime Parameter Change
10 Midi Technical Data and Charts
12 Creating New FM Voices
13 Understanding Fractional Scalings
14 Programming Fractional Scalings
15 Exploring the Preset Microtunings
16 The Mathematics & History of Microtuning
17 The Acoustics of Microtuning
18 The Psychoacoustics of Microtuning
19 Advanced Microtuning Data
20 Macrotuning
That's about it, save for a PDF of the very last Aftertouch. So I'm missing
some booklets there, along with the other stuff. Back when I could see I
bought Howard Massey's great book on the DX7IIFD, so if I could find that
it'd be cool too.
Anyone out there have a source where I can grab the rest of what's
available?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Nyyki

the groups seem fine to me?

Have you looked here? :

I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, but it seems likely.

- Andy

Yeah, it's a blind thing -- the change of their layout made it less blind accessible pretty much across the board, so I can't get to the files section anymore to get what's here attached to this group.

No, not much there I could find in terms of downloads, it seemed like people talking about downloads. It was also a bit difficult to navigate, as it seemed I had to go top to bottom to find anything, and then after all of that it was a bunch more links to what some actually said.
I'm looking for the manuals, supplemental material, etc. for the DX7IIFD.

Okay.?

The links for the owners manuals, within this yahoo group, are under "
??? Files >? DX7 IIFD all I have >? Manuals >? Owners"

?The page is here:

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/YamahaDX/files/DX7%20IIFD%20all%20I%20have/Manuals/Owners/

There are two links, which are very long and odd looking, which I'll paste here, but you might need to go to the page and look for them, if these don't work.

The file names are

dx7IId-man.pdf

and

dx7ii.pdf

The links are

https://xa.yimg.com/df/YamahaDX/dx7IId-man.pdf?token=hgXENx1jd8P-Q8JrM20JedkWHxCthz_Uj49FcFfak466Nf2hDwx4tX6E0leowrR21i3hzs9leDUrtDtnGLyaDBgB0sDBPOk9R-Omqz88pKCqSmf5p0jvIl9ZM_bW5ZM0sEvkiUXSgOYDeFtfPsRnigwBA0GVo2Cu&type=download

and

For the booklets, and maybe some of the documentation, Rawl is one of the main sources of those, on that forum I linked to, but he didn't always make it clear what the content was.? It might be worth contacting him to see what else he has.? As I understand it, he didn't add all of his collection to the downloads section of that forum.? He planned to set up his own site with it all, but I don't know if he ever did.

At the top of his downloads thread for booklets, it shows an image which says

DX7II.FD/D
DIGITAL PROGRAMMABLE ALGORITHM SYNTHESIZER
SUPPLEMENTAL BOOKLET

but he only refers to them as "DX7II supplemental booklets".

In the first post, in that thread, there are links to PDFs for each individual booklet.

The thread is here, but I've pasted the main content below in case the page is too hard to read with your software:

https://yamahamusicians.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=154&t=9609

Some of them may just be scans of the printed documents, of course, without actual text content other than as an image.

Here are the contents of Rawl's first post, with all the links for the booklets.? I see at least a couple that aren't on your list:

After a PM request for download links for the DX7II supplemental booklets previously available on the old site downloads section, I decided to publish download links for these hosted on my company web site.? For the links to things in this group's list, I got a persistent "400 Bad Request" error. Not sure why, as your links have everything I'd think they needed.
I think I have all the supplements Raul and Dan have at this point. (The ones I'm missing they're missing too) I've asked Dan if there's an archive of the Aftertouch magazines.
I'm still missing, if they exist, the owner's manual, service manual (in case I need to get it worked on by someone who doesn't have the service manual for it already) and Howard Massey's Amsco book. (I have it in hardcopy, but I'm really hoping I'm not going to have to scan it myself, as even with the hovercam it's going to take a very long time and I don't trust my scan quality) There may be other things I'm not aware of that it'd be very useful for me to have. (As long as they're not basic texts on MIDI, as I'm very strong with it, including innovations far past the DXII time period) So y'all feel free to tell me what else I'm missing.

The list you gave, of leaflets you have, started at 5, and didn't include 11, Nyyki.? The links I gave, from Rawl's updated post, contain 1, 3 and 11.

The service manual is in this group too, but there are quite a few related files.? Those are here:

Here are the filenames, and sizes, from that page:

Troubleshooting the DX7 IIFD.pdf 1630 KB

Yamaha-DX7-IIFD-Service-News-Bulletin-419_Compressed.pdf 1183 KB

DX7IIFD_SM_Compressed.pdf 5733 KB

DX7IIFD_Schematic.tif 1790 KB

dx7_ii_fd_Compressed.pdf 8917 KB

If the groups pages don't work for you, all I can think of is uploading them somewhere else, e.g. the forum, if no one objects, or maybe temporarily to dropbox.

There is an archive of Aftertouch magazines, in that forum, which is here:

Here's the list of topics, from that page:

??? Aftertouch Magazine Individual Issues 1988-1989
??? by Saul ? Wed May 30, 2018 6:33 pm

??? AfterTouch Complete
??? by Saul ? Sun Jun 11, 2017 11:56 am

(Saul is the site owner/admin).

The "Complete" version is one giant PDF file, downloaded as a 230MB zip file, which could easily cause problems, though I've been able to look in it easily enough with Foxitreader (a PDF reader).

The other pages might be more useful, but each contains a long list of links to smaller PDFs.

Are you able to navigate and read those pages, or should I try to paste content here?

Just as an experiment, here's one link, to the first issue there (I think).? Let me know if this works for you, and also if you're able to get to the rest of it, by browsing:

https://yamahamusicians.com/forum/download/file.php?id=5122

If I turn CSS off in my browser (with View->Page Style->No Style, in Waterfox), I see menus near the top, then the content, so it looks like it ought to work fairly well in a screen reader (from the little I've been told about them); you'd just have to wade through all those menus, on each page, before you got to the good parts.? There are a couple of pictures, but nothing important - e.g, on this first page, I see the site logo, an advert, a picture of Saul, then a magazine cover.? The main parts are all in text.

It looks like download links, from within the group's files section, are probably just temporary links created by yahoo, that expire soon after.

If I look at a groups page with CSS turned off, it's easy to not find anything useful to read, but it turns out the actual page content is right at the end.? So, perhaps once you know where/when to expect it, you'll be able to use those pages.

e.g. for the files section with the two manuals, here:

I see this text, which is the actual page content after all the menus etc, almost at the bottom, followed by a couple of empty boxes:

The other pages might be more useful, but each contains a long list of links to smaller PDFs.

Are you able to navigate and read those pages, or should I try to paste content here?

Just as an experiment, here's one link, to the first issue there (I think). Let me know if this works for you, and also if you're able to get to the rest of it, by browsing:

If I turn CSS off in my browser (with View->Page Style->No Style, in Waterfox), I see menus near the top, then the content, so it looks like it ought to work fairly well in a screen reader (from the little I've been told about them); you'd just have to wade through all those menus, on each page, before you got to the good parts. There are a couple of pictures, but nothing important - e.g, on this first page, I see the site logo, an advert, a picture of Saul, then a magazine cover. The main parts are all in text.

Aftertouch Magazine Individual Issues 1985-1986 <>?

Aftertouch Magazine Individual Issues 1987

Aftertouch Magazine Individual Issues 1988-1989

AfterTouch Complete (one huge file!)

which links to:
?(the 230MB zip, containing the huge PDF... which, oddly, is only 221MB).

Hi all

I'm also still looking for these PDF's from the DX Supplemental Booklets set, I don't suppose they've turned up? I can't seem to locate them online either.

02_DX7s_Quick_Guide (NEED)
04 Memory_Management_for_the_DX7s (NEED)
09_Advanced_MIDI_Applications (NEED)

I can't see the last couple of replies on the website, which is how I prefer to reply.? It remains to be seen if/when this reply reaches anyone.

Perhaps the website is buggy, or this group is strictly moderated, with no one at the helm?

I'm not an admin of the group, but it seems anyone can upload files, so I've made a folder of the booklets I have, including the new 9th one (thanks, Jeremy).? They should now be here:

/g/YamahaDX/files/DX7II%20Supplemental%20Booklets

I think I started indexing a couple of them, by adding bookmarks.? I use Foxit Reader 3.something, but the bookmarks seem to be compatible with other PDF readers.

Here's #9. The others are still missing.

Massive thanks to JB for providing 09_Advanced_MIDI_Applications.pdf

(For some reason I cannot see his reply here although I did receive an email.)

Not sure why the email didn't arrive (maybe the group doesn't accept attachments?).

Anyway, my pleasure. I can't remember if I got it on a Facebook group or on the Yamaha forum. In any case, 1 down, 2 to go. It would be fantastic to get issues #2 and #4 at some point, I'm sure they're out there somewhere.

Perhaps the server is under heavy load and messages take time to be processed? I can now see the replies that weren't visible before. Many thanks to Jeremy (again) for #9, thanks Andy for adding the booklets.

Thanks for upload, and for NR. 9 which was still missing. I’m the author of the project of scanning all this (also Aftertouch magazines and more), which I could finish with the help of colleague Rawl Gelinas from Yamaha DX yahoo group, and some contributors who sold or sent original material.

It would be nice to add credits.

Have you scanned Nr. 9?

So now only two booklets for DX7S are missing…

Hi Daniel, nice to see you here and THANK YOU for all your hard work preserving these resources.

I didn't scan it myself -- I am pretty sure it showed up quite recently (last 6 months), either on the Yamaha forum or on one of the Facebook groups. If I can figure out where I got it, I'll let you know.
