Subject: Changing to a FS1r

Hi

I am new on the list, I have a DX7IID and I like a lot. A couple of weeks
ago I head the new FS1r and it sounded so god that I was considering a
change of my old DX7IID. The Clark in the shop told me that it i possible to
dump voices from any previous fm (DX - TX - SY.... and so on) synths yamaha
have made, is that really true? I know Yamaha have done it in the past I
converted all the sounds form the DX7 to the DX7IID with good result meaning
the voices sounded a lot better than the original DX7. but all all these
model? If anyone on the list had the experience then I like to know :-) One
thing I noticed is that could not find any Key Mode (meaning Polyphonic,
Monophonic, Unison poly and Unison mono) on the FS1r. have I missed a menu?
and if not how does the FS1r convert these settings from the DX7IID?

I twisted around the FS1r and found the user interface slow to use but this
problem could be solved by a god editor. The one on Yamaha's side is only
for MAC. So my question is were do I find a good editor for PC win9X,
WinNT/2000, BeOS ore Linux?

Regards

Joergen

In the UK Yamaha gave a version of SoundDiver away with it. Would you
like me to send it to you. All you need to do then is to download the V3
upgrade from the Emagic site and you'll be away.

1. Yes you can dump patches to it from the other DX series. Unfortunately,
it is
one at a time only. The patches from my Dx7 FS1R sound identical on the
FS1R,
except no noise.

2. I don't know if there is a unison, but I think so

3. Editors: Emagic SoundDiver has an editor, and Mr. Kirill "Big K"
Katnelson
makes one. If you dig around the net you will find it.

Thanks Joel for al the tips

1. I just have to ask you what model of the DX7 dit you dump the
sounds from? when I dumped the sounds from my DX7 to the DX7II the sound
chaged quite a bit, especialy on the base-sounds more low end, less
noise and more dynamic was addet to the sounds.

2. The Unison on the DX7IID is basicly 4 identical voices you
detune, of couse I can do it by using all 4 parts for a sound, but if
anyone knows for sure if the FS1r have Unison please let me know, then
I'll be :-)

3. I found all the abow editors thanks a lot.

Hi List!

I am a lucky new owner of a DX7. I bought it for a very small
price of 150DM (ca. 75$). Technically it is all ok. But one black
key is lost. I had to clean it. The cover and the keyboardare
full of wax. It take some to do this job because I had to dismantle
it complete. But sound is fantastic. I love FMs own charme.
So now some questions:
Is there a DX7 editor for Windows (if not I plan to code my
own)
Where can I buy parts for the DX7 (e.g. the lost black key)

Its an original DX7. I hear no difference between the two machines at all,
except less noise. That is most impressive to me.

Sure that's pretty impressive, and if you want the noise of the original
you can properly add it by using the noise generators found on the FS1r,
if I dump my voices from my DX7IID to the FS1r and it sounds like the
original DX7IID voices, then yamaha have made something genius, a synth
that recognized the model the voices is loaded from that would be pretty
cool.

Anyway I think I'll do some more research before I deside to get rid of
my DX7IID.
