Re: Pitchbend
开云体育
Some documents say the range is 14 bits, MIDI implementation for OS version 1.6 shows 7 bit resolution. So it’s not quite clear what is sent to the internal tone generator and what is sent to MIDI output.
It is possible to set the range of bending to 1-12 semitones.

Pitchbend
Hi All -
I wanted to ask a couple of questions about how pitch bend is implemented in a DX7 (mark 1). I'm controlling it with an external MIDI signal. 1. I believe the range of potential values is 0 to 16382, or 16384. I'm a little unclear about which. It would mean that either 8191 or 8192 is the "center point" (no bend added). Is that all correct? 2. I believe that you can program the DX7 so that the pitch wheel doesn't use the "full excursion", but presumably that doesn't change the range of 0 to 16384, on a patch-by-patch basis. So, in terms of pitch, what is the actual range here? Is it something that can be measured in semitones? 3. It does not seem possible to assign pitchbends to individual notes. I know that the DX7 II has some kind of a pitch reprogramming feature.. but is there any way to do something similar with a DX7 I? Thanks all, Geoff |

Well done Martin. All retro gear must be getting rarer. Let's hope the remaining examples end up in the hands of those who prize them,as indeed you must :-) LEE

开云体育Hi, Jan, yes, you are almost right, our house is not inflatable :-) I occupy almost three rooms in the house, and two rooms in stock house and garden house.? But because in every good studio there’s always at least one machine (or cable or so…) missing, there’s still some space for new cosy little toys with buttons and lights making strange noises at my place. Especially welcomed when the keyboard is missing :-) In the worse case I will throw away from the window our upright Yamaha piano, it has no buttons, no lights and no power cable. Daniel

开云体育Hey, Martin, congratulations! That’s great you could find it. Will you write how much have you paid? I always wanted this one, but until now I couldn't find it even here in Japan. I don’t check Japanese auctions often, only second hand shops here around Nagoya, and offer of HardOff chain of second hand gear on the internet. No FVX… I also don’t know how many of them were produced. True is that Electone organs were sold mainly in Japan and other Asian countries, not so much in Europe and USA. So it’s possible that some FVX must be somewhere in Japan, but I still didn’t meet any.? Some algorithms combine 4+4 operators, there are also 5+3, and some are real 8 OP combinations! ?ALG 15 with 8 carriers is good for organ sounds, two more carriers than DX7 has :-)? MIDI SysEx implementation in Owner’s manual is probably not complete, but anyway it is a question if there’s something like individual parameter control - when this machine was constructed by organ division, not synth division in Yamaha, they didn’t suppose that customer who bought Electone organ will go so deep and need any SysEx programming.? Maybe changes are done in bulk dump block, and one patch or whole bulk dump has to be sent when some change is done. But other instruments from those times (DX7 II D…) had individual parameter SysEx control, so who knows, FVX can have it also, but unpublished. I’m sure you will find all those commands and messages by reverse engineering and bulk dump format analysis :-) ?Or try that editor, maybe it sends such data when parameter value is changed. Somebody on Canada Ebay sells Service manual for it and more machines connected with it: It would be great if you buy it and scan… I’m really interested to see how it is done. My search will continue! And, if you want to sell it one day, let me know please.? Daniel Forro

Re: Just Unboxed My Old DX7 Mk1 - Battery Still Working plus forgotten Steinberg YAMRAM !
开云体育The internal battery check mechanism always shows something quite a bit
higher than the actual battery voltage, from what I have seen. You can’t believe
it. You will need to open it up and get a volt meter on the battery itself to
get an accurate measurement. In any case, if there are any special non-factory
patches in memory that you want to keep, get them onto that RAM card real soon
or do a sysex dump. A brand new CR2032 might measure as high as 3.3 V. Once it
gets below 3.0, it is probably going to drop quickly. It’s hard to imagine one
of those batteries lasting 30 years, but I guess it can happen.

DX11 factory settings
Hi all, I've found previous posts with files containing factory settings for the DX11 performances and internal banks but for whatever reason, I'm unable to download them from the yimg server (hosting the attachments from previous posts) Does anyone here still have this file around and could send it my way? I've got the DX11 outside of its box, changed the battery and all, but the performances memory is all corrupted. (fingers crossed someone still have it...) Thank you! Fran?ois |
