A new FC-40 group ?

Hello everybody,

I'm Cedric, my call is F5PSR, I'm a FC-40 and ATAS-100 owner.

I don't write here but as I spend a lot of my time on the Web (I'm moderator on others french groups) I propose to create a new group on Yahoo as it seems there is no more moderator here.

Tell me if you are interested in this idea or not.

If you are OK, tell me also the title you would like to have on this new group.

Hi Cedric.

Only Problem I can see is the language.
.. Somehow I can write and read English but French not at all.
My position will be just as a member, I am using already
too much time in the web.

Hi Cedric, I also have a FC-40 and ATAS-100 along with a FC-30. Are we looking to make a new group to keep the spammers out? May be Yaesu-Autotuners and have key words that would include all the models in the description of the group. I don't know if it would increase the amount of postings by members but I think a lot of the lurkers would still find the files and posted info helpful.

Good morning Cedric,

I too would like to see the group continue even though I am not an owner of one of these Yaesu tuners. It is always interesting to read what others are doing and see if maybe their learning / errors will help others.

So yes, count me in.

I second this motion. All in favor say "I".

I am a newby to ham radio, still studying to take the exams and have been following this forum as I have a yaesu radio which has been opened up for marine band so that I can eventually install it on my sailboat. Though I am not a contributor ( I don't know enough yet!) I am interested in the experiments others have been making to increase the transmission and reception of the useable spectrum, as I will obviously have similar issues when I eventually install my transceiver on my boat. I too am fed up with the amount of spam that has started to appear on this site, so would be interested in an alternative.

In spite of owning an FC-40 I don't hang out here much. Just dropped in today to find a lot of spam and this thread which is certainly justified. I guess the list owner has gone missing? If he/she ever bothered to appoint any moderators they must have gone missing too. Yet there is some content here that would be missed if we lost it.

Does anyone know if YahooGroups policy allows group members to take over a group that has been abandoned by its creator?

If they do I would propose we take over this group, purge the spam that is still resident in the web based group archive, and change the membership policy to require that first posts be moderated so that spammers can be eliminated. They hardly ever bother to make an on topic post to evade this simple anti-spam policy, they just move on to groups with no protection. Like this one!

Any interest or have you all already left? Of course it won't matter if YahooGroups will not allow group members to seize an abandoned group.

Hi Ken.
I tried to contact moderators and owner but no success.
Not contacted to Yahoo.

There is new group: Yaesu-Autotuners. It is controlled by the owner
F5PSR, Cedrick. All messages has to be approved by him, so the group
will be spam-free. Just join that group, nice to get you there.
I am just member (internet is taking too much my time..).
When I have some more time I will copy all my FC40 info there.

After long winter I finally reached my "Wire-Farm" at cottage,
connected FC40 to FT897, but it is not tuning anymore.
When pressing rig tune button ther comes "wait" info to screen but
nothing happening. Then opened tuner and found some voltages.
Right now time problems but later will start testing again.

I have no fc 40 BUT an fc1000 by yaesu,,,,

I had some spare room in it and put a 1:4 balun on the output side ….

Now with a jumper wire I can switch that balun in and can tune dipoles, loops or other things that the mobile tuner otherwise could not handle

You can not put the balun on the input side (but coiling up a few feet of the coax does help a bit) cause you have a second device (control head) on the trx side that is grounded at the trx so you can not just make a current balun on the inside like with an sgc tuner ….

Many many manufacturers build (manual) tuners with a 1:4 on the outside so I thought to try it out on a fieldday with different antennas….

If you have an autotuner (regardless what others say and regardless what manufacturer) just try it out with an external balun on the output side

If the tuner can not tune it on a band or two just make the ladderline or the antenna a few feet longer (or shorter) and make another try on all bands ….

With that setup /the tuner with balun) I can now tune on any band with a pushbutton …

That worked on fieldday with different dipoles (all ladderline fed) and on my fullsize loop at home….

I would like to hear more of different setups from others …..

What did you try with your yaesu tuner?

What length of antenna worked what lengths should be avoided?

Did you make any mods on your tuner?

What mods??

I am also thinking about changing some of the larger coils in the fc1000 …..better q > lower losses > can handle more power …. That is what I hope

I also made a small mod in the controlhead of the fc1000

I have a swr meter with led built in cause in the control head there was also some spare room

(I like mods that can fill the spare room that the manufacturer left hi hi )

What did others do with their rigs and tuners??

Ps: on my fc901 manual tuner I also put a 1:4 in and changed the bandswitch to a unit with more contacts (warc bands) but that’s another story J
