Have you thought about trying a vertical loop antenna at all ?
I have been having great success with vertical loop antennas with my SGC
Auto ATU, which is basically the same as the FC40.
I've got pictures, diagrams and dimensions on my website,
To date I have found that the loop antennas are the best performers with the
auto ATU.
The problem I have found with end-fed antennas is corrosion on the ground
system connections during the winter months which degrades the performance
of the antenna drastically, however with a loop there is no ground to worry
about ...
Just an idea for you to consider.
