FT-847 Serial Numbers?

Greetings all.
Is there a way to determine the year of manufacture of the radio from the serial #?
Which radios/years do not have the bidirectional CAT control?
Is there an easy way to tell the difference from the serial #?

Hi all,?

Quick search I found this:?

"...Yaesu appears to use the following format for serial numbers on their
amateur products:
?
Year of manufacture-Month of manufacture-Production Run-Individual Unit
number, where the month of manufacture is offset by 2, so "C" means January,
"D" means February, "E" means March, and so forth.
?
Example: 8G051234 = 1998, May (fifth month, or "G"), Production Run 05, unit
#1234 in this run.
?
One key serial number range is 8G05. This seems to be the point at which
Yaesu had corrected the bi-directional CAT issue and made some other
improvements. This version was made in May 1998. Later serial numbers (e.g.,
8L09nnnn) all seem to have incorporated the earlier improvements plus new
ones...."

Hope it helps

Hi folks, this is the chartI use.
847 SERIAL NUMBER DE-CODE FOR DATE
First number - YEAR CODE
1 = 1991, 2001, 2011
Month code
C = JAN
D = FEB
E = MAR
F = APR
G = MAY
H = JUN
I = JUL
J = AUG
K = SEP
L = OCT
M = NOV
N = DEC
Batch code next 2 numbers
08 = Batch 8
Serial number next in batch
0069
My set made - 2001 or 1991, November, Batch 8, Serial 0069 in batch

Regarding the CAT problem:
Generally, prior to the 8G05 production run, there was one main problem in the design of the radio: it only had unidirectional CAT control for frequency and mode (i.e., you could only use the PC to command the rig but not to report the rig frequency and mode back to the software on the PC). Beginning with production run 8G05, the radios have bidirectional CAT for frequency and mode (PC commanding the rig, and the rig reporting information to the PC). In the USA (at least), Yaesu offered to upgrade all radios older than 8G05xxxx under warranty, which involved replacing a computer chip in the radio and some other modifications. Many people with earlier rigs took Yaesu up on their offer.
Some service centers may still have the new CPU in stock. If? you have a rig with the faulty CPU and can't find a CPU nearby get in touch with Geroff at Castle electronics ,?
