60 Meter Transmit Mod Info Wanted
Hi folks, I just found this group and am a newbie to it.
I have owned an FT-847 since new from 1999 and would like to know how to open the transmit for 60 Meters. As you know, 60 M was unavailable for use back then unless you were authorized for MARS/CAP, but the FCC has opened up this 5 MHz band in 2003 or 2004 for amateur use per the band plan. I have seen several mods that seem different from each other. Does anyone have a known reliable mod for a U.S. FT-847? Thanks in advance, Mark/AE1MS |
right from the files section
/g/YaesuFT847/files/FT-847%20Mods/FT-847%20mods.pdf even in that document there is conflicting information the instructions direct from Yaesu were created before we had 60M |
update??
but I just did the changes to one of my 847s started with one like this and finished with it looking like this I used 0 ohm resistors instead of a? solder bridge and i cant find that the changes did anything at all except causing me to have to reset all my settings and memories it gives "error" when going out of any band from 160M - 70cm I enabled the AK emergency channel? in the menu and it will TX there but it would have done that any way? anyone ever have success with this? |
Hi there, that info was released by Yeasu quite a few years ago, there is no update now, somewhere there is a 4M pre-amp available for the 847 along with details of how to modify the bandpass filters to allow much higher power out and drastically reduce the current taken when on 4M, both my 847's are fitted with the preamps and filters modified, have not seen the mod mentioned since.

HI, how are you getting on with the information for your mod information requested? It seems to have stopped are you having it done? Are you going to do it yourself?

Is there anybody who is willing to do the mod on an 847 as suggested by Leighton GW3FSP. Best regards Sent from Jeff M0UHF On 24 Mar 2023, at 12:30, gw3fsp via groups.io <gw3fsp.ldavies@...> wrote: |
The 60 metre mod is easily done by simply widebanding the radio.? 60 metres is not in the processor, as 60 metres was not thought of when the radio was new.? Ref 4 metres, I looked in to doing the mods, and came to the conclusion that a transverter was both easier and cheaper.? The TX output is easy, removing one cap in PA, but if looking at a SA on the output, there are nasty sprogs at around 48 Mhz that would need filtering out, which involves messing with bpf.? The pre amp mod that replaces the 4 m borad is no longer available, I have the Gerber files and a few boards made. All the parts are surface mount, there is one mc109 coil for tuning. This mod brings the 4M RX performance beyond the 6 M performance! TX BPF mod, will give you 85 Watts on TX, you could add a further 70MHZ BPF if you wish, to bring the 2nd harmonic down a bit more. I have done the above mod on two FT 847, and they worked extremely well, I sold them both in a weak moment! The 48 Mhz is way before the PA.? I forget the exact figure, but it was not many dB down from the 70 Mhz signal On Sat, 25 Mar 2023, 13:22 Andrew Lenton, <a@...> wrote:
