No audio in Yaesu MD-100A8X Microphone and yaesu md-100 A8X
Steven KC3DOW
I have a Yaesu MD-100A8X microphone connected to a Yaesu FT-847 radio and when I press the PTT the radio shows a carrier going out and the carrier is being seen by all parties but no audio. Through the repeater.. ? I don’t think the problem is in the radio because when I connect the hand microphone it works OK. ? I have no idea how to troubleshoot this but I am a quick learner. I replaced the mic. To radio cord but I still have the problem. ? Thanks, Steven/kc3dow Note. I posted this on the other ft-847 group thinking it was here. It seems that I was not a member of this group. |
开云体育Hi, Steven,? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?I’ve had a few MD100’s and they have a common failing. The shield wire drops off and you lose microphone ground (not to be confused with signal ground on pin 5). The actual mic is wired to Pin 8 and pin 7. Check continuity between pin 7 as this is the shield wire and microphone ground. ? First you normally get an annoying hum with your audio that eventually becomes no audio. ?This may or not be your problem but I’ve got a genuine brand new mic element here that was bought because I misdiagnosed the element as faulty when it was actually the mic shield/ground wire. ? Also remember the FT847 has an option to have the FM mic gain on the front knob or from a present in the display. The MD100-ADX has really poor gain in my experience. ?Menu 25 FM-Pset. Turn that up to max for testing (level from off to 0 to 63) and also the front mic gain obviously if this is set to off. ? I hope this helps. De Spence M0STO? 开云体育Sorry forgot to ask if you have tried shouting into the mic in SSB.?? Also the shield/ground wire is between the mic element and the internal cabling. Replacing the external cable won’t solve this problem. De Spence M0STO? Sent while portable! please excuse typos. On 31 Jul 2023, at 23:08, Spencer Tomlinson <unavailable.equal@...> wrote:

开云体育All you have to do is turn the microphone on, you will find a switch underneath on the base. Some radios it will work on both of us. It will only work on position one or position two.?Sent from Jeff M0UHF?

开云体育The only switches underside are high emphasis, filter pass through and low cut.? There is no in and off. De Spence M0STO? Sent while portable! please excuse typos. On 1 Aug 2023, at 00:19, Jeff M0UHF <jeff.elliott45@...> wrote:

Hello Spence,
This is results of the continuity measurements. I measured continuity between pins 7 and 8 at the bottom of the mic and it tested OK. so the mic itself is good. I then measured pins 7 and 8 from the cord going to the base and the end that goes to the mic and no reading. When I measure pins 7 and 8 in the cord that goes to the phone jack to the radio I get no reading. I tried with the PTT off and down with the same results (radio off)) Regarding the mic gain I followed your instructions with no results (transmits but no audio) Thank You, Steven/kc3dow |
开云体育Sounds like a cable problem. ?? Do you know someone with an MD100 who you can borrow their cable? ?At least lend them your cable and see if it’s working.? ? ?Need to think about this and try some testing in one of my MD100 and get back to you.
